    Hello, NYDRAINS, it's Nathan again. Thank you for the like. But last night when I told you that "this is classic symptomology of a blocked main drain," I forgot to mention that I know plumbing very well. I just didn't get to have a career in plumbing because I have Asperger's syndrome and haven't been able to have a career because of some learning difficulties and special needs that have plagued my life. But I have always loved to troubleshoot plumbing problems --- and THIS one was a very easy one to figure out --- even if you hadn't described in the beginning what was happening. For that's what happens when you have a blocked main drain; the plumbing fixtures on the lower level of a building become the sewer outlets for the fixtures on the upper levels of the building. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that plumbing systems are very dynamic and they can foist some big surprises on those who are unfamiliar with how they work. Some of those surprises, of course --- like what is shown in this video --- are very nasty indeed. Another example of a nasty surprise-by-plumbing-system is the cross-connections that can occur from improperly-installed and from improperly-used plumbing equipment --- and which can create plumbing hell by causing sewer water to enter the clean-water pipes and making buildingfuls of people sick at once.

    As someone else already wondered, why you opened the upper stream cap instead of trying to unclog the U trap ? There is a technical approach to prevent any side effects ?

    • @azmrblack
      @azmrblack 2 года назад +4

      He opens the downstream cap first (going out) to provide a path for the water to go, and to check and see if the downstream is clogged. Even if he pulls stuff out of the trap, there is such a volume of water it's just going to do the same thing as when he pulled the second cap. Also, with the volume of solids and junk in the line it will just clog the trap up over and over. Plus, his snake cannot bend around the trap it is too rigid. Unfortunanetly when there is a clog and that volume of sewage and under pressure there is no way to avoid making a mess.

    It appears that basement toilet is no longer being used. If that is the case, it should be removed & the toilet drain capped or sealed over so this doesn't happen again.

      Also, This is a perfect example of why you don’t flush baby wipes down the toilet, & I hope that you made this very clear to the residents of that place. In addition that basement toilet needs to be filled with water and flushed out to get rid of the nastiness and stink.

    I don't understand why the people that call for a plumber to help don't go down and clear up the area. You have been getting some pretty tight areas and filled with so much. That stuff in the other room is all bad.
