I'm a blacksmith and i don't really have a huge right arm. You never squeeze the hammer, you simply guide it with your hand, and let your shoulder transfer the energy trough your arm. Also most people don't use hammers heavier than 1.5kg, wich isn't that much with a bit of training. More than that can be counter productive, because speed is a key to having power in the blow.
@@ryanwalter5824 yes, and speed builds up more power than mass, it also depends on the "thrust to weight ratio" of your arm. So usually except if you're a bodybuilder, your arm will be able to manage a 1.5kg hammer quite well, being able to accelerate it easily to great speeds, while not exhausting you (useful when you do that all day) and allowing you good dexterity. So big hammers are pretty uncommon. I use them sometimes for moving lots of material or stamping my work, but for the rest, i use a 1.5kg hammer
@@ryanwalter5824 I guess you know better than the guy who said he's a blacksmith. Have you ever swung a hammer around all day for work? You let the hammer do a lot of the work.
Old isn't always gold. Perhaps the blacksmith family should highlight some other key features of their knives instead. In this modern world, there are new super steels and forging techniques that can do wonders.
It’s different. Why do some people still like to play on the Atari instead of the ps5? Modern techniques have their own draw backs and even with modern steel. They all have their own properties. Carbon steel stills holds one of the best edge for the low price and availability.
These knives sell for about 8 dollars. You make one using a fancy steel, you probably can't sell it for less than $50. Not only is the steel expensive, it also requires expesive equipment to work with it... Plus the extra labour 5160 is good, modern steel. It's cheep, strong, easy to work with, and very forgiving. For a tool like a fish knife, it's perfect.
A combination of old and new methods is always the best way, you use one where the other lacks and combine them, in regards to steel, there isnt just one best steel overall, price range, way of usage of the steel, super steels are just for a few high end conocieurs but wont be worth for just home cooks

Wow, that was really good. He has maintained his youth!
Дед не заморачивается: хвостовик торчит из рукояти - и так сойдет. WD-40 наверное отличная "приправа" к рыбе.
I can’t imagine the forearm and grip strength you’d get from a life time of being a black smith very cool
Just squeeze you non stop, 8 days straight

@@jeanladoire4141 actually sir speed and mass and strength are contributing factors to power

Another random giving advice in the RUclips comments. Shocker.
This was actually a very nice video. Most "super steels" are extremely difficult to work or harden or temper. If it's not broken, don't fix it.
