    Beautiful truck/over landing rig. Never been a Nissan guy until almost a year ago I purchased a 2023 Frontier and WOW I’m blown away. The new body style reminds me of a baby Titan and they are very chiseled and tough looking. Comfortable reliable and the perfect balance of utility and technology. Nice video bro good to see Nissan truck content. God bless

    • @CKKnifeandTool
      @CKKnifeandTool  4 года назад +1

      Thanks and yes. The tires were the biggest effect to my mpg over all the other upgrades. I was still getting over 24 mpg on the hwy with the suspension upgrades and the canopy but when I switched to the Grabbers which are an all-terrain and a 10 ply, that took about 5 mpg away from me on the hwy. They, or for that matter, any tire like this is heavier than an all-season radial that was only a 6 ply and being a 265 vs. the 275 I run now. Trade-off's. they stink. ;)

    The time to deploy argument always puzzles me. Why the hurry? I want to slow down and savor my outdoor experience, avoid the rat race. That said, however, my main issue with my old soft-shell rooftop tent was that as a solo overlander, I had to climb up on tires, cab and a small ladder to deploy (2013 Tacoma Access Cab 4x4 i4AT, SnugTop Shell). It took a few falls off the ladder on uneven terrain to convince me to switch to a hard-shell RTT. I'm getting older, so now I'm changing my rig to minimize lifting, climbing and extensive set ups (as in replacing 65qt roto-molded ice chest weighting 100 lbs full with an ARB Zero fridge). Thanks for the update on Trip, that's one happy rig!

    • @CKKnifeandTool
      @CKKnifeandTool  4 года назад +1

      I agree whole heartily Jeff! And I would add, a hard shell would be much more aerodynamic and perhaps help with fuel consumption. ;)

  • @Chac0hunahaw
    @Chac0hunahaw 4 года назад +1

    Nice. Really digging the build. Especially, because it's somewhat similar to what I have in mind for my '18 Titan; and also, because I don't see very many Titan builds with a topper. A lot of people are focusing on using bed racks instead.

    • @CKKnifeandTool
      @CKKnifeandTool  4 года назад +1

      Yes, canopies/ caps/ toppers, etc... are very under rated and the fad nowadays is the new bed racks. They do look neat but you just cant beat the security and protection from the elements like a LEER (or other brands).

  • @donsissons7138

    Nice Rig Chad! I've got a 2021 Titan PR (Love my Titan!) that I'm looking at setting up with a RTT & 270 Awning. My preference is to use a mid-height rack to keep the closed RTT tucked under the wind a little. But then I'm a little worried about headroom clearance under the awning - depending on how high I can extend the awning mounts (I'm 6'-1"). Any wisdom from you or other Titan owners here would be welcome!

    • @CKKnifeandTool
      @CKKnifeandTool  22 дня назад +2

      Hey there! Yeah, I can completely understand the wind drag on an RTT. The Rhino Rack basket with the wind fairing helped but yeah, if you tucked it a bit behind the cab it would help. With my 3” lift and having the awning attached to the rack of my LEER gave me at least 6’4” because I had a friend (Greg) that was 6’1” and he had plenty of comfort room to walk around. Sadly though, if you had an awning lower like your RTT, it would have to be angled upward when opened and that would lead to water running towards your truck bed and leave the front or open area of the awning higher to allow wind and rain to get under. Hope this helps. Maybe look around for a used AT Overland Atlas or similar unit? A bit more spendy but really well built and they have an R value even if not a lot. Then there’s GFS or other brands that are light and less expensive and offer a clam shell style tent when deployed.

    Hi:
    I am very interested your roof rack base, what brand and how do you install on it ? Looks like drill on your truck’s roof! Could you make a video tell us how to do it ! I have a same Titan Xd also , but I can find a good roof rack base on aftermarket! . Thanks for your helping.

    Chad, I was watching the video that you posted about the Nissan invitational that you attended. You mentioned something about the gas pedal lag and something you did that eliminated it but it was just in passing, I was wondering what it was that you did. Also which video do you discuss the suspension mods. I'm running a 17 Pro 4X and want to do a couple things I think it needs.
    Thanks for any help and great videos. Steve

      Steve Troiano Hi Steve! Yes, I have an iDrive for my Titan and it eliminated the pedal lag and then some. It was a great plug and play add-on

    What's the update? 2017 have known to be problematic with cylinder no.7. a friend of mine 2017 pro4x replaced the engine twice.

      Wow! I hadn’t heard of that issue when I owned my 2017. Five years and many miles on and off road and I never had an issue. Maybe it was the Pro4x or dependent on when the engine was made? The production month?

      ... Yes I’d did. I also looked at Vault. I ended up with something else. You’ll find it here in my Nissan Titan playlist.

    What's the percentage of fuel for your Titan you end up having in the extra fuel cans? 6 Gal of fuel, what does it translate to in distance on the Titan with the changes you now have made?

    • @CKKnifeandTool
      @CKKnifeandTool  4 года назад +2

      Rui Fidalgo ... Good question! If highway driving and loaded probably 17 mpg and if off-road, depending on speed and terrain of course, but say 12-15 mpg. So with the two cans and 6 gallons of fuel... it should be enough to help manage nay “Duh moments” 😂

    They make rock sliders that offer better protection without grabbing rocks like those do.

    • @CKKnifeandTool
      @CKKnifeandTool  8 месяцев назад

      I do recall there being several options but a rock slider is different than a side step. I chose the side step option to gain access around my rig and to assist my family in getting in and out. I never planned to do things that had me going over boulders and such. A side step offered you a little protection with accessibility.

    I have NFABS on my Tacoma and do not like them at all. Yeah they look good but the steps are too far forward and are useless for getting in and out.

    Good Grief, you come off as a salesman to get free products. Who can afford all the products you push? As a disabled vet on a limited income you sound like a Christmas wishlist. I'm just hoping for the tires buddy.
