The time to deploy argument always puzzles me. Why the hurry? I want to slow down and savor my outdoor experience, avoid the rat race. That said, however, my main issue with my old soft-shell rooftop tent was that as a solo overlander, I had to climb up on tires, cab and a small ladder to deploy (2013 Tacoma Access Cab 4x4 i4AT, SnugTop Shell). But then I'm a little worried about headroom clearance under the awning - depending on how high I can extend the awning mounts (I'm 6'-1"). Hey there! Yeah, I can completely understand the wind drag on an RTT. The Rhino Rack basket with the wind fairing helped but yeah, if you tucked it a bit behind the cab it would help. With my 3” lift and having the awning attached to the rack of my LEER gave me at least 6’4” because I had a friend (Greg) that was 6’1” and he had plenty of comfort room to walk around. Sadly though, if you had an awning lower like your RTT, it would have to be angled upward when opened and that would lead to water running towards your truck bed and leave the front or open area of the awning higher to allow wind and rain to get under. Hope this helps. Maybe look around for a used AT Overland Atlas or similar unit? A bit more spendy but really well built and they have an R value even if not a lot. Then there’s GFS or other brands that are light and less expensive and offer a clam shell style tent when deployed.

@@CKKnifeandTool sorry i dont about his engine details. Its all around in the fb group and youtube about cyl 7 knocking issue. Tnx for the reply. Wish you a good luck with your titan..
What's the percentage of fuel for your Titan you end up having in the extra fuel cans? 6 Gal of fuel, what does it translate to in distance on the Titan with the changes you now have made?
Rui Fidalgo ... Good question! If highway driving and loaded probably 17 mpg and if off-road, depending on speed and terrain of course, but say 12-15 mpg. So with the two cans and 6 gallons of fuel... it should be enough to help manage nay “Duh moments” 😂
I do recall there being several options but a rock slider is different than a side step. I chose the side step option to gain access around my rig and to assist my family in getting in and out. I never planned to do things that had me going over boulders and such. A side step offered you a little protection with accessibility.
Yeah, drilling into the canopy was a pucker factor!! I think I made a noise like a little girl. No offense to little girls. It turned out well!! Trip is looking good. You are too!! Love ya man!!

... Yes I’d did. I also looked at Vault. I ended up with something else. You’ll find it here in my Nissan Titan playlist.
I have a 2019 titan build that has the decked system and can say enough good things about it
What's the percentage of fuel for your Titan you end up having in the extra fuel cans? 6 Gal of fuel, what does it translate to in distance on the Titan with the changes you now have made?
Rui Fidalgo ... Good question! If highway driving and loaded probably 17 mpg and if off-road, depending on speed and terrain of course, but say 12-15 mpg. So with the two cans and 6 gallons of fuel... it should be enough to help manage nay “Duh moments” 😂
@@CKKnifeandTool what if you are also towing a Toyota Tacoma??:) had to ask!!!
They make rock sliders that offer better protection without grabbing rocks like those do.
I do recall there being several options but a rock slider is different than a side step. I chose the side step option to gain access around my rig and to assist my family in getting in and out. I never planned to do things that had me going over boulders and such. A side step offered you a little protection with accessibility.
What size truck bed is that? 5 1/2 Ft? Wait for my ARE MX cap to come in then start my build. Thanks
Yes it’s the short bed. Have fun!
Yeah, drilling into the canopy was a pucker factor!! I think I made a noise like a little girl. No offense to little girls. It turned out well!! Trip is looking good. You are too!! Love ya man!!
Carl Wommack 🤣👍🏼
What model is your truck ?
2017 Titan
Do you have winch
Not yet
@@CKKnifeandToolDid you get a winch?
I have Nissan XD diesel similar to your with RTT /
Vadim Zubkov ... That’s great. The XD is a really nice platform.
I have NFABS on my Tacoma and do not like them at all. Yeah they look good but the steps are too far forward and are useless for getting in and out.
I am glad you mentioned that because that's the one thing that kinda always stuck with me. I just figured it was my personal preference.
Nice truck, I overlanded my titan as well, check it out on my channel tell me what u think
Good Grief, you come off as a salesman to get free products. Who can afford all the products you push? As a disabled vet on a limited income you sound like a Christmas wishlist. I'm just hoping for the tires buddy.
Well that's an interesting take.
