Does the TurboTax program automatically determine how much is taxable....i.e. only 85% is taxable yet the total is included in the summary of taxable income. Where does TurboTax make this adjustment?

Yes the program will automatically make the adjustment on how much is taxable. You will see the adjust on the front of the Form 1040 line 6a and 6b.
