I always felt that what made Leslie Nielsen such a great comedic actor is the fact that he took the same deadpan-delivery approach from his serious roles and applied it to his funny ones. Particularly as Dr. Rumack and, of course, Lieutenant Frank Drebin.
The cancellation of Firefly was a gigantic tragedy. And yes stupid Fox is notorious for airing episodes out of order. They did that to “Sliders,” too, back in the 90s. But that one survived the first season, but still didn’t last very long.
They weren't the only SciFi with this FireFly treatment. B5 Crusades was also messed up by the studios, aired out of order with outrageous demands to change story line so that they could cancel it before the season was over.
Fox has a history of ruining Sci-Fi shows by showing the episodes out of order, barely promoting the shows, just cancelling the shows regardless of the ratings, meddling into the shows like WB with DC movies.
The show had 3 Emmy nominations and even won one for "Outstanding Casting". It also had 2 TCA nominations and i believe it won one of those too! Freaks and Geeks was listed by Time Magazine as the "3rd best show from 2000-2010", TV Guide listed it as the "21st best cult show of all time", and Entertainment Weekly listed it as the "13th best series of the past 25 years", in spite of being the only show on that list which was filmed last century. The problem was that NBC, under new management, didn't see the shows 5.1million viewers per episode as very lucrative, and last minute attempts for production to switch to WB fell through. On Metacritic is has a 10/10 fan rating and a 9.7/10 Critic rating. It has to be one of the most successful and critically aclaimed shows to ever be cancelled before the end of the first season. The writers poured their heart and soul into that show, and it was truly unique, original and authentic. There's no real way to justify the cancellation of Freaks and Geeks without accepting that it was all about money and ratings. It reflects the reality of a corporatized entertainment industry, one that puts it's profits above a genuine work of art. At least the writers didn't have a chance to sell out or extract the shows original essence by pressures to change the script from the broadcasters. Freaks and Geeks will forever be the same and that's only served to improve the shows stock as a cult classic.
My favorite TV show back in the day. I could really re late to it being an unpopular nerd in high school while the show aired. I would of liked to see more episodes showing Lindsey and Kim's experiences on the road with the Greatfull Dead tour, and what Sam, Neil, and Bill would be up to.
While it was announced to be canceled after the season ended (and literally a day after it WON A FREAKING EMMY!!!) I’m still pissed Netflix canceled The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
Firefly's magnificent, I am so furious that Fox ruined it and didn't reach the show's full potential. If only someone could go back in time and fix that problem.
I'd kill for a high budget continuation of Firefly. Mabye even an animated series. And if we dont, at least we have the comic series. Its pretty shiny.
The worst thing is, that you never can resume it after one or two decades. Either you include, that the cast became older and have a time skip (which in most cases is awful for many reasons) or you replace the cast, either with new characters or new actors for already existing characters. But you will never get the feel of the original show. Its not like a book or a manga you can put on hiatus and continue on with no day missed out.
"Me and Abed have an agreement. If one of us dies, we stage it to look like a suicide caused by the unjust cancellation of Firefly. We're gonna get that show back on the air buddy!"
Freaks and Geeks is one of my favorite TV shows. It's a shame that this show got one season and then NBC decided not to renew the show. Plus the show had a pretty good cast.
There was a little show called Pan Am that ABC (again, ABC) chose to run in a lousy time slot (Sunday night against Sunday Night Football on NBC). It was an interesting show with loads of potential. The set decoration and costumes alone were spectacular (think Mad Men at an airport). And it introduced us to a gorgeous but little known young actor named Margot Robbie. 13 episodes is all we got.
Swamp Thing was such a new and refreshing take on the superhero/horror/antihero genre, especially for a DC entry. They really killed a golden cow with that one. Every Halloween we’d look forward to it.
Swamp Thing man. I was right in the middle of the first episode, very much enjoying it, when I saw that it was cancelled. First fan campaign I ever participated in
I truly miss what could have been for Freaks and Geeks and Firefly! Both had so much potential with more seasons with great casts. I also watched Black Donnellys but was never really sure if I finished the few episodes it did get.
Even though I primarily (~95 %) watch either depending on the cast, in this case it doesn't matter why I watch it. If the cast or the premise (or a combination of both) is reason enough for me to watch a show, then the name doesn't matter. For all I care, a show or movie could have the worst name imaginable and I'd still watch it. And what's the problem with "Hank" anyway? I don't get it... I also don't get why a name matters that much. Unless it is "objectively" offensive and/or racist, the name shouldn't matter. And if then... it would still depend on the content and/or cast, because the name could be a statement, wordplay etc. If a name clearly states the content (e.g. Star Trek, Chucky, Arrow), and said content is not to ones liking, then it could be a "reason" not to watch it. But if you can't clearly associate a name with the content, then it shouldn't matter... And if I chose not to watch shows (or movies) with a name that's "strange" or "doesn't see logic" or "unconventional" or whatever, then I wouldn't have watched the majority of what I did watch - and I would've missed out on a lot of great shows and movies. But in the end, that's just my opinion, my way of handling things. If you don't want to watch something for its name, cast, content or a bad review, then it's your decision. Whilst I do have actors and actresses, as well as some content that elevate the priority of a show or movie, so that I will watch it, I couldn't care less about reviews or names (and for the most part the content as well).
I loved the vampire/detective show Moonlight from 2008 with Alex O’Laughlin and Sophia Myles. It was on the bubble most of the season but was finally cancelled 3 days before the final episode aired. It seemed to be building an audience but really got screwed by the writers strike that halted production that year, plus schedule shenanigans. It’s a shame because it was just a little ahead of its time. True Blood came out the same year and Vampire Diaries took off the next, and I felt like they were building some really intriguing plot lines that could have produced some really meaty character development in future seasons. O’Laughlin eventually blew up with Hawaii 5-0 but I think this was his first US series attempt, before Three Rivers. Right behind Firefly on my “dammit” list of promising cancelled shows.
I have that vampire/detective show on DVD Moonlight. I thought it was a good show but I hated how it ended where at the end, the cop gets a phone call from someone that tells him that their are more vampires out there than the one he knows. I wished it kept going after that but, they never did another one after that so we will never know what would have happened after that phone call.
Why NOBODY has any ideas to bring back FIREFLY? For god sake, MIAMI VICE reboot for exemple? 90210 reboot? Hawaï 5-0 reboot? Do it like the Picard series. Bring them back when you wants, where you want, how you want them to be then. Just give them some more. Well be right there. watching and enjoying a story of our heroes.
Unfortunately, Joss Whedon has rather PNG'd himself with the entertainment industry and I can't really see a "Firefly" reboot getting made without his involvement on some level.
A Top 20 of this list is needed. Could give such Paula Marshall (the queen of these one season wonders) vehicles as "Cupid" and "Out of Practice" some love.
You know the 2 shows I watched recently that had so much potential and yet the networks killed their creativity in just one season. One was Caprica, the Battlestar Galactica spin off that could expand the mythology into so much more, and the other is a recent show called Emergence, that had some of the best relationships between a family that I've seen in a while. But again we can't have good things. Both these shows deserved better.
The shows were pitched against each other but were both given a go-ahead by NBC. Studio 60 won the ratings war at the end of the year but was cancelled because of its expensive production.😄😄😄
After 2 episodes of Freaks and Geeks, I searched up good shows that ended in 1 season and found Freaks and Geeks at the thumbnail 😢 I didn't know it was canceled before season 1 even finished 😳 Linda Cardellini is so hot in here and the show is funny
undercovers-two retired cia married agents are called back in to carry out certain missions. as the series progressed, the couple find out things about each other which spouse should know. it was building to a mjor reveal, but it was canceled.
I saw Trophy Wife and fun fact: that season (2013) ABC had two new comedies, this one and another one. The critics loved Trophy Wife and hated the other show and predicted Trophy Wife would be huge, while the other new comedy would be canceled after the first season. The other comedy is the Goldbergs, and became a hit.

Sometimes a Series takes a Season or Two to get it's Feet Grounded, But when Networks, have NO Patience, a Good Series ... DIES!!
I think "Surviving Jack" was hilarious, but it didn't 'survive' beyond the first season. Other cancelled shows that I liked are 'Ground Floor', 'Selfie' and 'Undateable'.
I don't know exactly when it was cancelled, but I want to mention a wonderful show I discovered a couple of years ago that only got one incredibly satisfying 10-ep season. That would be USA Network's Eyewitness from 2015, starring Julianne Nicholson and Gil Bellows. I found the premise to be unique, the story to be very entertaining, and all of the acting to be uniformly stellar. If you've never seen it, check it out. The ending was perfect, in my opinion, but I would've loved to see more of those characters.
It's a crime that swamp thing was canceled an underrated character finally gets the love he deserves and they just end it so quickly it should be going strong with Doom patrol
I don't know if the cancellations were before the finales but I'm still pissed about 9 Lives of Chloe King, Emergence, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, Take Two and Mystery Girls....Stumptown deserves a mention but it was cancelled before starting season 2 due to COVID which still sucks ass also while they did go more than 1 season, the cancellations of Krypton, Defiance, Dark Angel, Dollhouse ( season 2 became insanely rushed after the first few episodes to try & wrap up things just being set up due to Fox cancelling the show ), Better Off Ted, Speechless, Cloak & Dagger, Runaways, ALL the Marvel Netflix shows and The Lying Game still hurt
The Birds of Prey series needs a conclusion. While it strayed from its source material, it was an interesting take on characters and stories from the DC Universe
I’m still upset that Studio 60 got cancelled. But although I never watched Firefly, I’m not sure that nowadays many people are losing sleep over a Joss Whedon production getting the ax.

also while they did go more than 1 season, the cancellations of Krypton, Defiance, Dark Angel, Dollhouse ( season 2 became insanely rushed after the first few episodes to try & wrap up things just being set up due to Fox cancelling the show ), Better Off Ted, Speechless, Cloak & Dagger, Runaways, ALL the Marvel Netflix shows and The Lying Game still hurt
Freaks and Geeks should not have been cancelled. It was a great show!!!!
Stumptown should be on this list that show was fantastic
The Black Donnelys was brilliant. Really wish that one could have caught on.
Y'all should've added Reunion to this list. A Fox show that kicked the bucket before the first season ended.
Doesn't seem like Bradley Whitford can catch a break. Wasn't he also on NBC's Perfect Harmony show that only lasted a season?
He was on West Wing prior to Studio 60.
I hope that Blind Justice is on here. That was such a good show. ABC tripped out getting rid of it.
How about a list of shows whose finale was a huge fail? One example Sliders. 😒
Perfect quote to end on. If you know what happens next, it kind of sums up the content of the video.
