    I've heard both var-shae-veech-ee and wurs-tzay-vee-chee as proper Polish pronunciations for the Philodendron Warscewiczii. The person who discovered it was a Polish botanist, Józef Warszewicz. His last name is pronounced as the first one, without the double 'e' at the end, just 'var-shae-veech'. I personally pronounce it as the former, as it maintains the name more. Either way may be okay since the plant is spelt "Warsc" rather than "Warsz", but I am not Polish and do not know for sure.
    Any Polish people, please correct me if I'm wrong!

    Hi Kaytee 💛 love your videos. You should do more videos on hydroponics! Curious about which plants are bad candidates for passive hydro, and which plants are good in various substrates for that setup. I'm also curious about hydroponics in general, and would like to switch plants to active hydroponics (dwc), have you ever tried anything other than passive hydroponics?

      I've been looking through comments trying to find someone who maybe could answer my question. I understand that kaylee is terribly busy and I don't expect her to answer such a basic question. Lol. Kaylee often used pon and leika in most of her plants rather than soil. Does this make the plants ridiculously heavy or would I be surprised at how light it is? I'm only recently getting into indoor plants. I've always done gardening outdoors (tomatos, lettuce, rosemary, skyscraper sunflower, etc) and only had a few basic plants inside so I apologize if this is a stupid question. Lol. Thanks so much if you can help me out. I can't wait to get some new, rarer plants. The growth pattern is really what interests me more than anything and I'm having a lot of fun looking through all the options. I'd especially love a very large monstera (small to start but I'd love to grow it large) which is what made me think of the weight of leika as opposed to soil. I just noticed that you are talking about hydroponics so hopefully you know the answer.

It just works, I don't get so wired up and stressed by random stuff flying at me. And maybe see which things happening stress you the most and make them a routine item for a certain day or time. I didn't check myself but my friends who are also doing hydro suggest fertlizer dedicated to hydro.

    • @_hazplants
      @_hazplants 2 года назад

      It is possible, but it is a real pita as pon has very limited pH buffering capabilities. So the pH needs to be monitored very well. As regular liquid fertilizers are made for tapwater, they contain higher amounts of ammonium to reduce the hardness. But without (carbonate) hardness, the nutrient solution lacks any acid binding capacities. As almost all regular liquid fertilizers contain urea as a third source of nitrogen, the process of its hydrolization will cause an acid drop after some delay.
      So in regular fertilizers, we mostly see ratios of nitrate, ammonium, urea like 1:1:1 up to 1:2:4, whereas in fertilizers for hydroponics the ratio tends to 1:0.1:0 or even lower ammonium.
      The effect of acidification can be fought back by adding tapwater, or carbonates like calcium and/or magnesium carbonate.

    I'm only thinking what type of garden you would have. You should check out garden designer Piet Oudolf for inspiration. He works with a lot of grasses.

    Honestly with the greenhouse colors I would've guessed your style to be minimalist white with plants in key places and corners, but if you say nobody could guess it I'm thinking maybe you're into those cabin in the woods/barn type of design. Considering you just said your tastes are less feminine, and the fact that you have a horse XD

    Hey kaylee I see in some of your bins you have a bit of algae buildup. Will that hurt your plant at all? And do you clean your bins regularly or is that even necessary?

      Algae is totally fine and natural! Plants and algae actually create a beneficial environment for each other, but if you have algae on your plants and don't want it to stick around its very easy to clear up with some hydrogen peroxide water soaks.

      @@plantytaytay9208 i guess where it confuses me, is when it compares to algae blooms in oceans and such. Those can be potentially harmful as the algae absorbs the nitrogen present in the liquid fertilizer and can potentially suffocate roots... I know for Coral Reef, for example, its terrible...Forgive me, but doesn't algae release carbon monoxide as a bi-product of nitrogen consumption. Just a brainstorming session outloud here... LOVE LOVE LOVE this healthy convo BTW.

      @@katherinesanchez_ yeah I think I’m excess it is negative for a plant like you don’t want the buildup to get to a point where it is starting to become a negative relationship but that would be a lot more than like what you see on kaylees bins in the video. When it’s in smaller amounts it’s actually beneficial to the plant as opposed to not being there at all. Here’s an excerpt from a scientific journal on it “algae is a living organism. As such, algae is rich in various nutrients that are beneficial for both plants and the soil. These nutrients can help improve the growth and yield of our plants.” But you are completely correct in that, if algae completely takes over and grows and spreads rapidly it can actually start causing some problems but it’s no where near that on kaylees bins.

      @@plantytaytay9208 I see. Thank you. And I wasn’t really meaning kaylees bin… I have some bins where I work with plants propagating and they have far more algae in kaylees videos. It actually makes me a bit more at ease seeing how perfect her plants can live in an environment symbiotically with algae. Thank you for that journal as well. :)
