Some good ideas might be: Alice in Wonderland, The wizard of Oz, The Secret Garden, The Little Princess, Grimm's Fairly tales (for the gothic lolita in your life), Hans Christian Anderson, or anything Jane Austen.
It's good that you mentioned hard covers and lovely illustrations too, since a lot of people already have paperback versions of those books hanging around whether they're lolitas or not since they're considered classic books. (I know that I had all of those except Grimms Fairy Tales and Jane Austen given to me as a kid).
You can put Hello Kitty on ANYTHING and it'll sell. I should know. I have the toothbrush, plushes (including a "sew-your-own"), and laptop case. Not ashamed. :)

I'm another person here that doesn't really like/is allergic to perfume and scented candles, so I hate being given them.
