I can remember watching the Brighton Belle passing through Croydon when I was a child, sadly it was the blue and gray colour that I remember, would loved to have seen her in her older livery. So I am of course looking forward to her returning to the mainline once more. I have followed the struggles of the preservation society, but finally all of the hard work is about to pay off.
Phew, for a moment I thought my namesake, Hazel, wasn`t going to get a mention. When I looked her up a few years ago she was a dining addition to a pub or a restaurant.
hi there. i remember the BB in the 60s as we used to live in sussex, when the clowns repainted it in to blue/grey what were they thinking ? ir was meant to be back on track by 2014 but i cant find out anymore information, i understand 2 power cars are at LS ltd. had a lovely trip on the vsoe a few years ago.
The carriage at the Little Mill inn at Rowarth is being moved soon to be renovated. This is carriage Number 289 the Derbyshire Belle and I think it is a drive carriage. 👍🇬🇧🏴🤠
I looked hard at the last shot with the two Type 4s but all the carriages seemed to be the later Metro-Cammell ones plus a converted Mk1. (I remember that when they were introduced as replacements, the brakevan was still one of the original straight-sided type).
I rememer in the 1960s seeing quite a few ex-Midland Railway Pullman Palace Cars of distinctly American appearance, grounded and heavily painted or tarred all over.
The Brighton Belle would have been a perfect ride but for the dreary suburban or industrial views most of the way from Victoria- comparable in ugliness with the Fenchurch St - Southend corridor.
Excellent video and commentary. However, the "musical" accompaniment should be deleted as it is completely unnecessary and adds nothing to the otherwise fascinating story.
There's an easy way to spot a Pullman coach. They all have inward opening doors, even the BR Mk2 ones built for the WCML.

I know, I'm so excited to see it as well and i know the team working on her cant wait
Sorry but £1 was 20 shillings or 240 pennies.
I saw several of the coaches at the Barrow Hill roundhouse being restored a few years ago. They had the new bogies there, ready to install.
Lovely keep up the good work
thank you so much

Thank you for showing the Swiss RABe 501 train set by STADLER RAIL under the title “Brighton Bell”…didn’t even know SBB is operating in the UK…

you've got the wrong Southern at 2:25 , that's the American railway that went by the same name.
In the Sixties the two systems used the same ad slogan: 'Southern Serves the South'.

When is it coming back?
I didn't realise the Brighton belle was coming back
I still have some extra supplement tickets for The Belle, Victoria, Brighton return, ten shillings extra!!😆🧐
