RC Formation Flying from the Cockpit! FPV Duo Flight at RC Expo

- Happy Good Friday everyone! While at the RC Expo a couple weeks ago with the @modelaircraft I got a chance to catch up with the @BlackstarFPVDemoTeam while they were performing some FPV formation flight demos out at the flying area. It was pretty fun to watch how close they got and in in cockpit view is pretty darn cool. I even got a chance to get under the hood myself for a flight! :) It really makes me think about getting into some FPV flying. #FPV #FormationFlying #Awesome
The head tracker is custom made by the Blackstar FPV team. Which includes a custom made clear FPV canopy that allows for a realistic look from the outside while maintaining the airplane's aerodynamics. The "G8" Pilot comes with the Camera, and digital video transmitter pre-installed so all one has to to do is bind their goggles. G8 is also a Pan + Tilt Gimbal giving a realistic pilot experience when paired with the Blackstar Sidewinder Head tracker. The team can be emailed at info@blackstaravionics.com

Great Job holding tight formation!
I'm sure at some point there will be this kind of thing used for actual flight training. I'm thinking full working instruments and everything. There will also be formation aerobatic teams like this. I can imagine a mini blue angles team or thunderbirds or red arrows. This is only going to get more advanced.
FPV formation is some of the funnest flying I have done.
Well done in a rather restricted space without much elbow room. I get spoiled with my open spaces. Jim😎

Now they just need a little spring on the stick pulling constant down elevator to get rid of the null zone like the Blues have and they are all set.

It looks quite difficult to fly wing formation that close to each other, because the wingman over reacts to leads inputs, which is a result of being too close. A good formation to fly would be trail, where the wingman is, maybe 15-20 feet back from lead. Lead can now do some slow rolls or loops and the wingman should be able to maintain formation and mirror leads moves. As the wingman, just be sure to do the loop where lead starts his loop. In other words, delay a second or two, otherwise #2 will be turning inside lead's circle, and wind up getting too close, i.e., not staying the same 15-20' back of lead. Same goes for level turns, you see lead start his turn, then delay a couple of seconds in order to stay in position and not turn inside of lead's turn circle.

What got my interest back into flying rc after a long lay-off was watching a YT channel nightnav,flying fpv with Mini SKyhunters.I have four hanging from my wall all ready for flight when and if I get over my stroke enough to allow it.As always,your videos are always great,thanks for this👍🏻✌🏻

I have headtracking in my freewing t33 and FMS PITT the t33 headtracking works great but with the Pitt its much more difficult to fly with the tail dragger setup

What FPV gear was used? I’d like to try it dont know much about the gear. I think my carbon Z T28 would be a good platform.

AHHH...😥😥 You didn't show the inside cockpit while landing...🤔🤔🥴🥴
With the grass, the onboard camera view bounced around a ton while taxiing, so that’s why I didn’t show that. Right at touchdown, the view got very jittery.
