Finally, I’ve decided on the coaling tower… and made changes to the track work before I change my mind again. I know coaling towers were very large structures but I’ve decided on the smaller one given the location on the layout.
I’ve also completed the track work for the small diesel area. What I have realised though is the amount of things that aren’t getting finished…. So I’ve made a list and am going to do these finishing details over the next couple of weeks before I start on the diesel yard!

The Unexplained!! Wow, there’s a flashback to childhood. My mum had the full set of these also 🙂

Ha. Really. I remember collecting each new issue from the local sweet shop. They used to reserve them and put them under the counter! 😁

Make a list! I always find that sorts out what needs to be done and in what order… great progress though.

Thanks Pete. You don’t want my talent (or lack of!). I liked your expanding foam idea - might try that myself 👍. Andy.

I wouldn’t worry about not finishing sections you have already started on, my layout is still a work in progress and I started it over 4 years ago

@@Grandadstrainroom-pn3tt I don’t think one ever actually “finishes” a layout

Hi, I'm pretty sure in real life there wouldn't have been a siding where you have the 08 parked, in case of runaways which would end in a disaster. I think fuel tanks would always be at the side of track and not head-on. Great progress though.

Thanks. I even thought that as I was putting that piece in!! A disaster waiting to to happen..

Sometimes less is more and its an easy mistake to try to over cram the track in a finite space. Your process of "design on the hoof" is the way I enjoyed the hobby. 😊

Hi if you mix uo some washing uo liquid 50/50 then paint that down the sides of the rails and chairs you should find that they slid in easy maybe slightly more of a shanfer to the sides and underneath as these will have rail joiners on them they wont be seen also this works well with flexi track when bending and shaping it , it can all be wiped of with damp cloth when finished or just left till you ballast with the p v a then cleaned . It works well with me on my layout hope this may have been a help to you by the way you have a very fine layout love it

Loving it! The part where that diesel fueling station is, if you cut a larger piece of board up to fit between the tracks, it'll save you having to cut small sections out to fit between the section you've cut already. If that makes any sense? :D

Hi. I would suggest pre painting the Ash Pit was your issue. I watched "Moorway South" part 11 Pits and Painting. video how to illuminate an Ash Pit this I did and turned out really good.
Your layout continues to grow and I agree with you for your final decision.

Thank you. Yeah, I saw that video too. I thought it had to be the paint, but was surprised I still struggled on the unpainted piece. Managed it in the end though! 👍

Hi where are the coal wagons going to feed the coaling stage stand?

Hi, just discovered your channel and enjoyed the video, if it’s any consolation I had the same issue with my N gauge inspection pit getting the rails in!! Good to see how you installed it, good idea using the Dremel I will be using that one! Just subbed so looking forward to watching past and future videos! Cheers Gary

Love the layout and respect your decision but for a steam shed the size you have you really need the bigger coaling tower, with that many engines the coaling Plant you have used would never keep up with the demand for coal.

Thank you. I know the concrete tower would be more suited to the loco yard but because I designed the layout for the yard to be central I didn’t realise just how overpowering the tower would be when viewing from any angle. A compromise I’m afraid! If I were to build another layout I would definitely have the loco yard in a corner….. 👍

Would submerging the ash pit kit in warm water soften the plastic enough to slide the rails through, just a thought. Great looking layout, loving the Chanel

Thanks very much. Yes, that might have worked. I used a drop of washing up liquid on the other pit and it helped the rail to slide 👍

Great video! Because my own layout is relatively small I've made the mistake of cramming too many sidings in just so that more of my rolling stock can be on show. Seeing how yours looks has inspired me to bite the bullet, remove some of the tracks, and go for a more spacious, realistic look. I shall be watching your continuing progress with interest!
