We do these pretty often. After years in the business, I've learned that it all comes down to not the grit of sandpaper, but the manufacturer of the sandpaper, and the material. Most sandpapers are aluminum oxide, but we use silicon carbide. We can get these done in about 30 minutes or less wet sanding with light water. Overall yours look great! Definitely worth more than $80!

What brand do you use, do you mind sharing?

@@simplyclear5802 Klingspor. Its kind of a pain to get an account with them, and you have to order in bulk, but worth it.

Silicon carbide will be something for me to look into. Thanks for sharing that. That's good knowledge to know.

$80 for two hours worth of work, plus all the supplies used, and for it to come out looking so nice. That was the deal of a century for this customer!
But you’re right, sometimes we have to eat the loss for the learning experience. Just to know what not to do next time.

😆Exactly! Would not have been $80 if I knew what I was about to get into.

The VW look like that with the factory coating on. When they go bad .... they literally go bad.

    Why not go...
    220, 320, 500, 800, 1000 trizact, 3000 trizact?
    6 grits instead of 7.
If the 320 is working too hard, it can potentially get too hot.
So why not start with 220 and use fewer sheets and save yourself about 30 minutes of burning out 320s?
Plus the 1000 trizact allows you to skip the 2000 grit easily.
Especially since the 3000 trizact can actually remove an 800 grit.

      The 220 spares your 320 and the 500 replaces the 400 & 600.
The 1000 trizact followed by the 3000 trizact allows you to skip the 2000.

I throw that 2000 in after 1000 because I don't want the 3000 to pick up the bulk of what's left from the 1000. My 3M 3000 grit is expensive so I don't want it to get clogged too quickly. Now the 220 is an interesting thought. That probably would've cut the time shorter removing that clear coat. I'll keep that in mind.
