- FOX 5 has learned racing caused the Labor Day car crash that killed five teens in Gwinnett County. It happened on the State Route 316 to I-85 SB ramp. One of the vehicles involved plunged more than 30 feet to a road below.

it does happen. When i went to HS. the same exact thing happened. 100% exactly like this one. A group of 5 teens were driving home late night from Knotts Berry Farm, the driver was speeding flew off the freeway ramp and crashed below.. Only thing different is the teen driver survived and all his friends died. He still went to jail for it. When i saw this news it reminded me of that. and i swear ive seen the same exact thing on the news last year

I use to be an youngster who felt invincible just like any other youngster in every generation. I've even made a few humbling mistake that fortunately didn't involve innocent people. At age 42, I am here to tell you people, its all fun and games with huge grins until someone is hurt or killed. Over the years I've seen stories like this and the end results. You'd think people will see these stories and embrace them. Instead, people will go out their with in mind "That will never happen to me.". I guarantee you... He thought the same. We need to get a grip, people. These crashes have been getting more and more intense over time.

It is extremely easy tech to govern motor vehicles with GPS to the speed limit. It's also incredibly easy tech to have ignition interlock. The day is coming when it's mandatory for all autos.
I prefer to learn from other peoples mistakes.

The two people that were racing didn’t even know one another. Imagine how irrational of a decision that really was to race a complete stranger on the road and then collide with other cars and kill five kids. SMH 🤦♂️

It's not worth it to get in pissing contests with other drivers. It always escalates no matter what and can easily lead to a deadly conclusion. If someone wants to go faster or slower than you, just let them.

It happened to me in California, my car an Altima Nissan 2014 vs a dodge charger. Early that day I was going to pick up somebody to Disneyland. a dodge charger what I believe that the one driving the car was a moron playing for the famous football team the Trojans, He almost hit my car, that was going so fast like a 130 mph and chased Him, I sped up too, but I was going to take another freeway that it takes me nearby Disneyland going first east and then south. 2.5 hrs later when I was coming back, a family of three were my passengers in that moment and then from nowhere, another dodge Challenger at this time going east same direction, He started to challenge me to race, with family in the car, I ignored the petition, if I was myself I don't care I compete any punk, I did it before, but not with people next to me, if I die it's only me, no innocent persons.

Well with these children deceased - They won't have a chance to do this again. The driver should be locked up for a long time !! Stupid little boy.
I live outside Portland, Oregon and last year, an 18 year old with four friends in his Nissan Altima ran a red light at over 100 mph in a 40 mph zone and struck a police car in the intersection. The impact was so severe that the rear seatbelts in the Altima actually snapped off, killing both occupants. The police officer somehow managed to survive but suffered massive physical injuries. He will never be able to do his job again. The driver of the Altima was sentenced to 25 years in prison without parole...imagine throwing your life away at 18.
He killed two. He should of got two life sentences.

I been a teen and I can say I can only thank god for not ending up this way. Close calls had me understand the lack of experience in vihicle handling I had and I never got into cars whith a driver that has not yet learned.

Terrible situation all across the board. 2 minutes of making a bad decision caused major heartache and tragedy. My prayers and condolences for all the families. Jail time is the least of that young man problems. Knowing that you caused 5 kids death is going to be rough to deal with. Prayers for him as well. Sad!

They do sell monitoring devices parents can put into cars. It can detect high speeds, aggressive driving , and sudden braking
I believe there may be some remote disabling devices too. See something stupid,,, call them up and warn them a shutdown is going to happen,,, then follow thru.

The victims were so young with their whole lives ahead of them. So messed up. Using freeways as a racetrack when there are other drivers to consider means they had no regard for human life.
I recall a similar incident just outside a Oklahoma farming city. Tragic and life changing for all families involved. That was about 45 years ago and seems like yesterday. Tech your children well.

I lived in Oklahoma and when I was in middle school it was about 2010 ish there were a group of teenagers that were racing motorcycles and they were playing chicken and collided! I think 3 teens died it was all anybody could talk about!

There was a guy in my area driving over 100. Killed him and a girl going up embankment and flipped.
One of my good friends since middle school became an alcoholic right after high school. He was drunk driving and hit 4 high school teens and killed them. Never expected that from him he really was a good dude. I lost touch after school so idk what he got into. I don’t blame him though nobody knows what someone’s going through

This is how my uncle passed away when he was 15years old. Exactly when they were passing a curve at high speed, total of 4 inside the truck. Only the driver survived. The rest were a closed casket 😪

I don't get it. Why are they charging him for the actions of the dead driver? Sure he's guilty of a multitude of violations. But he didn't make contact or force the other vehicle to go anywhere, or do anything. There was no mention of him endangering his own passengers. But if you're racing you're responsible for the other driver's driving as well as your own? If the other driver had survived wouldn't he be charged instead? If driver A races driver B. And driver A by his own actions hits a pole and dies. Is driver B at fault? Where is driver A's responsibility? Do you see where I'm going here?

My understanding is that the truck was not involved.
Yeah, the Toyota Tacoma was not part of the race. It was pitted and went over. There were 6 kids inside and 5 died (including the driver).

They call a Tacoma an suv interchangeably as if they are 2 different vehicles.
Apparently 6 people were in the Tacoma, and it was racing this guy in his Infinity. They both went around a car, the infinity encountered a box truck in the emergency lane, swerved to miss it....then took out the rear of the Tacoma he was racing, put it into a spin, roll and plunge off the roadway.
I had to watch it several times to get it straight.

Just a month ago a young girl was racing a friend and the road they was racing in would turn into a one line road they didn’t notice and she lost control and crash into a electrical pole

Way back in the olden days, the mid 60s I did my share of street racing. We would go out to old roads in the farming areas that were marked off in 1/4 mile strips. We often did it on public streets too from signal to signal. Only luck kept us out of tragedy and trouble. With 5 people in the car it leaves me with a lot of questions!

@@pep590 In the mid 60's, teenagers wouldn't have brand new muscle cars and race cars. If they had 10 and 20 year old cars like nowadays, then they'd have Bel Airs and T-Birds, and probably random clunkers. And if they're racing between lights in a small town, or racing down quarter mile sections of straight farm road, then yeah they're just straight line racing.
These kids crashed in modern cars that are quicker and swifter than those old cars, and they crashed on curved freeway bridges and ramps. I think the kids today are just as immature as the kids back then, just with different toys.

Knowing the teens that died; justice system needs an eye for an eye punishment or at the very least take limbs from the ones who committed the crime.

I believe if they took a survey and asked if anyone knows of a racing tragedy that happened in high-school, it would be 100 % of the survey. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to raise the driving age to 18 . 😢 My condolences to ALL that lost a loved one in this tragedy 😢 ❤

Racing can be fun but not on the pubic streets. Street racing is mostly an ego thing.

I think there is a concrete lip it is just hard to see. Not going to stop a vehicle from flipping though.
There's no way that there is a highway anywhere in the U.S. that has an unprotected drop.
The angle of the video makes it impossible to see the barrier, that's all.
But at high speeds, especially if it was tumbling as this car apparently was, it would have to be a pretty high wall to stop it.

There should be a guard rail. There’s one on the lower road right on the wall. Never saw such a mistake.

There is more than one kind of barrier.
Some are the metal guard rails and some are low concrete walls.
This location appears to have the latter.
There’s a guard rail I actually live like 15 minutes from this exact place and used to get pissed at all the traffic. There’s a major highway 85 that it merges into, but there’s also an exit ramp that these kids must have taken. Then it’s just a loooong straight shot to pleasant hill. People always try to swerve around traffic.
Send him to prison for 10 years with no early release and bar him from driving in that state forever!
