That was awesome! You should definitely do this again sometime because I'd love to see how a school of black or blue rockfish would react to the jiggy jigs underwater.
@@FishermansLife in 50 ft of water do you have some pink or purple lures for visibility? Pink looks pale pink and purple looks pale lavender. Black is always good for the purpose of good contrast in the blue blur at depth.
Matts never fails to impress. What a great idea and awesome footage. Impressive inventive and creative. Why this is my favorite fishing channel. You don't need a big boat and expensive gear to do BIG THINGS
Way to break out of your comfort zone for some new different content Matt’s! As always we appreciate you brotha and keep up the great work! P.S. Be safe out there by yourself. My cousin died out on a kayak striper fishing , it was the one time he went out alone because his buddy was running late. Be safe everyone and have an awesome Thanksgiving! 🎣
I collected live specimens for marine aquariums in the Pacific Northwest for over 40 years. For certain species, underwater fishing was my go-to. I used to take a short rod with a single action real. Too bad I retired before GoPros and RUclips. :)
Awesome! Loved seeing those lings! On the Pacific Northwest Coast Indigenous spear fishers used to tie a greenling to the end of a bull kelp line and drop it to the bottom from a dugout canoe, then one would pull the line in rapidly from the bottom to the surface, and the other would spear the lingcod that followed the bait. Now I see how well such a method could work! Great stuff bro!
Matt, might be wise to have a support kayak join you on this type of adventure. Or at least tow around an inner tube (like used with ab diving). And bring pliers too. : )
I totally agree with you Michael. A kayak clipped off to a piece of bull kelp with a kelp clip. Or, a home made kelp skimmer board attached to you with a float line would be a little piece of mind. Plus, you'd have a place to put your catch.

Congrats Matt..you just gave a whole new idea on fishing. That was awesome! And maybe now reel manufacturers will have something new to develope and work with like reels that can be used under water. Great job man..as always👍
I've actually thought of this while spearfishing and wondered how easy it would be to see fish go after your bait/lure but honestly I might try this and see how it fairs 😂

Amazing footage as a person who always wonders what it’s like for that jig in the water o am very appreciative of this POV keep up the amazing videos and awesome ideas! Happy thanksgiving Matt’s 👏

Man if Discovery Channel doesn’t reach out to you to host a real show or some kind of collaboration they crazy!!! Matt’s you are the truth!!! I appreciate the detail and time you put into your video’s!!! Love Bro Love ❤️
Thanks for educating us on under water fishing .you point out a lot of things people should be ready for when out there under water fishing . crazy . I just fish on land and that's it. But fishing under water brings a completely different perspective to the sport.
This is awesome, never seen this before. Open up the reel and grease everything to try and keep the saltwater out, then rinse it off or take it apart and it should last longer. Maybe wear a life vest too if your plan is just to stay on the surface. Whitewater life vests are just two big pieces, one on your front and one on your back, that would keep your arms pretty free for swimming.
The old rule diving 101 is don't ever dive alone . With your experience you'll be doing fine . You are a true waterman with great ideas . Keep them coming bro. So.cal. channel Islands 💫💫👽💫💫

I learned a lot about ling cod from that vid. Next time I get a small rock fish I'll be using it as bait. I'm on a quest to get a keeper ling from shore. And it made me want to start free diving again. Fun vid. thanks...
Pretty cool. I picked up a wet suit pre Covid. I haven't taken it into the water yet. I was thinking of spear fishing but this looks safer as I wouldn't be using air.
