Such a beautiful timeless song! I makes me imagine a time that might have been, in a previous life in the New World, and meeting a woman who had travelled by ship from Europe to be his wife. I've been a fan of Harry since the early 70's and bought much of his music. This is one of my favorites.
I was lucky enough to have heard Harry sing this song live more than a dozen times. Still never had a better time at a concert more than at Harry's. Gone way too soon!
What an incredible Balladeer he IS! His songs and voice will never be matched. His studio versions are professionally done but his concerts are Emotionally done.
As much as I loved his music - I loved Harry Chapin even more for what he represented off the stage . Can you see any of these current super stars donating half their annual concert proceeds to world hunger or a similar humanitarian cause RIP Harry - from all of us up here in the cheap seats !!
So long ago. Harry was a true voice, times are so different now. I saw him a couple of times in the late 70's. I think he was a profit. But, here we are.
Tears swell in my eyes every time I hear Harry sing this song! So touching and beautiful! My grandmother Annie was “Mail Order Annie” from England in 1911. She met my Grandfather through The Lonely Hearts Club writing letters and the rest is history. ♥️🙏🏼😢🌹
I love Harry’s music I wish he was still here singing his beautiful songs. This song is my favorite because this is how my Grandfather Sam met his mail order bride Annie in the early 1900’s. He saw an ad in the local paper and wrote to Annie, he and Annie wrote each other through the Lonely Hearts Club in England. Eventually Sam brought Annie over to Kentucky and they married. Sad to say I never got to meet either of them they both died young in their late 30’s I am told. I’d love to hear their stories but this song of Harry’s always takes me close to them. I love and miss you Harry Chaplin thank you for “Mail Order Annie” and all your beautiful songs. RIP
Gosh I miss Harry - such a beautiful and haunting song ~ You are spanning so many generations and continents Harry ~ I KNOW you'd love it - now to get you inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame ~ we keep trying ~ only about 400 more signatures needed ~
I just found all his recordings and am hearing them...I was a little young when he was around in NY... I remember Laura Nyro, Nina Simone the Simon and Garfinkle plus more...I'm crying now, redlocks...from Ken, Ft. Lauderdale.
He was an amazing person not only for his amazing and varied talents but for his caring and pledge to end world hunger. He would have.I had the honor of seeing him at the Gusman Theater in Miami and he signed his bookThrough the Looking Glass for me and kissed my cheek. This was not long before hearing the horrific news on the radio of the tractor trailer that would rear end his vehicle. Then to now ...I wish I could hale taken his place. God bless you Sandy & all.
Listening again tonight makes me cry every time I hear it. I can in vision my Grandmother Annie meeting her husband at the train station for the first time. Crazy, scary but Magical. 💞

every time I hear this song it always brings tears to my eyes
Me too! Like, every.single.time.!!
Me too - and it always did when I saw him in concert, too.
@@kathryngann3479 what I don't get is why he call this part his Tom Jones imitation.
@@seanadams3551 Unless it was because he was kind of "crooning"?
