The first time I saw one of these was in Belize on my honeymoon in May this year. Can't wait to put one together for an anniversary gift! We cut down a cedar tree a few months before the wedding and had the trunk milled, so I'll be able to use some of that lumber in the build. It should make for a great gift! Thanks for the tutorial.
I spied this chair a few months ago and spent an hour trying to convince myself I could reproduce this chair and decided to give up until now. THANKS for this video, it was great. Lynn
ok guess I could use up all that pine I have sitting in garage. since you didn't take any lol hope it will be strong enough not as thick may have to double them up
Beautiful chair and great tutorial! That will go great around a fire pit. Definitely on my project to-do list. Thanks for providing the tutorial and the inspiration.
These look far more functional and comfortable than adirondack chairs which most people some to love. I'm going to have to try and make one, and if I really like it, which I suspect that I will, then I'll probably have to make at least 5 more.
Carl Jacobson What is the length and diameter of the threaded rods which you use to hold everything together? That information is never mentioned. It would be useful to know how much is needed to buy. -Thank You
Love how this chair folds up for storage, another item for the to-do-list. Gotta make one for me and then another one for me when the daughter "borrows" mine...
Hey, Buddy Carl. My wife is very excited and waiting for me to make these beautiful chairs. Thank you for being always teaching us to do so many beautiful and practical things in a simple way. A big hug from this friend here in Brazil and follower of his videos.
this is a great design. i had to go to 1/4" holes to make the seat and back pieces fan out properly. if you cut the rod with a dremel metal cutting wheel, the threads will allow a nut to easily start over the cut so you don't have to deal with all that excess rod. i used lock nuts. mine is cherry which is pretty but heavy. next one will be cedar. thanks for another fun project.
Nice! I'm keeping this one in my 'watch later' list. I've been wanting to make one of these for some time. Kind of a surprise to see you away from the lathe too. Awesome! As always, another inspiring video. Thanks again!
I made one of these today. As I am a student, it was kind of a budget build - handsaw, a sheet of sand paper and cheap planks. It did, however, turn out pretty cool, which I guess goes to show that a good design outweighs fancy stuff : )
How is it that people don't like this video? Is it because there's no turning involved? I personally love watching your various woodworking skills Carl other than turning. Really nice chair and one I will probably make myself.
Great design. It look good to build a couple of these. Summer is up in Cape Town now and most of the time will be outdoors where these chairs will come handy. Thank you for sharing.
Holy shit this kicks ass! I'm going to borrow my friends drill press and make one. I have to figure out a way to get my circular saw to make perfectly square cuts and I'll be off.
Very nice looking chair, and great job on your videos. I love how you explain things in detail and make the picture in picture to show all the work and yet not wasting time. Subscribed and added this to favorites to try and build it. Thank you for sharing and keep up the amazing work.
Carl: I cannot emphasize enough the proper dimensions of the wood. My local box store had what they called 1 inch cedar but was actually 3/4 inch thickness. (note to self-check before buying.) I was anxious so I bought it. After following all the steps I sat in it in my shop. I broke the chair and bruised my ego. There probably isn't a recommended max weight rating but at almost 250 lbs, I really should have shopped for 5/4 or true 1 inch material. I am pondering on how much effort it will take to sit higher off the ground. I may just remake the broken 40" pieces.
I need more shop time, that's a great design Carl. I would think it could be made quite easy with very limited tools as well. Thanks for showing this one Carl. All the best Tony

***** Right!? Thank you very much!
instead of a rod, we used rope to hold the wood together. needs a slightly larger hole to be drilled, but the mrs. likes the more rustic look on it
Cool, that's a great alternative to the rod.
