My wife and son were driving down the highway in an 18 Tucson with 114k miles. Suddenly hear a loud bang from the engine and lose all power, causing it to pull into the left lane. Luckily there was no vehicle or semi beside them. Power came back on after about 7 seconds and she could pull over. Smelled like burnt chemicals/coolant in the car and they had to exit. Towed it to Hyundai and they said "our tech can't duplicate the issue", but here is $1300 worth of suggested fluid changes. We had kept up with maintenance and oil changes every 5k synthetic. It was burning oil. Traded it for a Subaru and never looking back.

This time last year, I drove my 2016 Honda Accord to Vegas and back for a weekend.
Got there just fine, but Sunday about 1pm just outside of the city headed back to LA, AC Blew… it was 118-122, and I got stuck in traffic.
Condenser went out -- ($1700 repair)

Zero issues with the 115-degree heat or steep grades. It's even somewhat fun in sport mode on mountain roads. I got 30mpg avg while cruising at 85mph on I-5 with a headwind.

I'm old enough to remember the first Hyundai sold in the U.S. It was called the "Excel" and it was basically a Mitsubishi Mirage/Dodge Colt that was assembled in South Korea. The engines were Mitsubishi sourced 1.5 L four cylinders that were lucky to make something like 80 bhp and that was probably generous. You could get them starting at $5,199 but the assembly quality was really substandard. Those things just fell apart on you in a short time. You were better off paying a little more and getting the Mitsubishi.

Interesting! I'm old enough to remember the first Hyundai models sold in Canada...RWD 4door Hatch called the PONY....CND $ 4,999.00 brand new... with a 10 year warranty !!
The vehicle dissolved after a couple of Canadian winters...and then the FWD Excel was the 2nd model. And they all sold like hotcakes due to the very low price and everyone, pretty much, accepted the low quality. A true A to B, no frills, low cost car...with a very long warranty.

The Palisade and the Telluride are probably the most reliable Hyundai and Kia's. I mean look at Honda and Toyota with their new engines, the hybrid Maxx engines are having tons of issues, the Honda 1.5t had oil dilution issues. The new Civic has severe suspension issues. If I were to buy a Telluride or a palisade I would try to get a new one with the long powertrain warranty or CPO.
But that applies to any new car these days they are just too complicated

Totally, ironically, though I advised my parents to buy a 2009 RX 350, they did, it had 95,000 miles. On their first road trip they blew the water pump cracked, so they ended up doing the coolant tank and the water pump and serpentine belts. Then one of the common problems with that car is the VVT oil cooler line which will burst, and literally leak out all of the oil rapidly. I called the Lexus dealership and it was supposedly done eight years prior….
The only time I drove it of course the VVT oil cooler line burst, I drove that thing on the freeway pretty much no oil for 10 miles, somehow the car survived

True. My 2020 Telluride runs like new day after day. Just stay on top of regular maintenance and if there’s any issue the service departments are good to go. It’s really a matter of opinion of how people drive and how they take care of their automobile in the end. I also have a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer, I dive it daily responsibly and it drives like a dream. But, internet opinionators give it bad reviews.🤷🏼

V6 could be important down the road as almost certainly a turbo motor will be coming with fewer cylinders. JD Power has very strong rating - too old now but current ones are plugging along. Bing says, TSBs: These usually cover parts or processes that misbehave but aren’t necessarily safety threats. They’re like the minor inconveniences of the car world-the wonky switches, sensor hiccups, or mysterious noises that keep you guessing. If your car is still under warranty, the manufacturer might cover the TSB repair. Otherwise, you might be reaching for your wallet.

Good luck once Hyundai replaces a part that IS IT! You get 1 engine 1 transmission 1 anything under that 100k miles and make sure u follow the maintenance guide by the book per mile where they won’t warranty anything!!! That includes fluid changes! If you don’t even do a fluid change or you don’t do it as often as the book says by the mileage it says they can avoid fixing anything

Don't get me wrong, NOTHING WORKED besides the engine and drivetrain. NO A/C, NO windows, NO sensors... they are the polar opposite of a Beemer or Benz.

I've never payed for a TSB here in Canada when my car was still on warranty and I don't think I have after as well.. my battery lasted 10 years before I had to replace it. It's now in my 2003 Sonoma zr2 and still works fine for it. But it could not keep up with the power demands in the optima after 10 years of Manitoba summers and winters. As for the car it still drives like a new car and doesn't even have a rattle anywhere. it is a EX model without the 2.0 turbo. I knew back in 2012 when I bought it new to stay away from the turbos.
