these guns are the same but with different fluid tips. 30 psi will suffice for either .compressor size will just determine how long you can maintain this spraying pressure .
You said a high pressure nozzle is needed for metallic paint and the gun needed for that is the HVLP type, that tells me you don't understand what HVLP stands for, HVLP stands for High Volume "Low Pressure", so how do you get high pressure from from a HVLP gun ?????
Electrical guy here. Low pressure may not mean you don't need big supply. You could go through gobs of air at low pressure. Like a car battery: low voltage - but it can send 25-30 times more current to a motor than your house lines at 120/240 volts. I'm not saying you're wrong, but you might be.

I got a SPRAYIT LVLP gun so it would work with my small compressor. But, as fate would have it, just as I was about to spray clear lacquer on my guitar my compressor failed. The auto-cutoff switch had quit working some time ago, so I might have burned it up inside. However, I still bought a small compressor, but bigger than my old one. I still can't afford a good compressor that would push lacquer through an HVLP gun. They're about double the cost of the smaller ones. I've read good reviews on the SPRAYIT gun, and it worked good when I was setting it up. I'm building a Tele from a kit and I think I've spent more on tools and upgrades than the kit cost me. But my rationale (at least when explaining to my wife) is that I can use all of the tools I've bought for other projects and DIY around the house. So far she's bought it. LOL! It's true though.
@someone I have a 30gallon that pushes 5.8cfm @40 psi and 7.1cfm @ 90 using a finish line devilbliss, and it sprayed ok. You won't have the max efficiency with a larger compressor, but it works. And sprays a good pattern. There are even videos showing using a lvlp spraying metallic.
Ha! I know what you mean. Just be sure to write a note to her telling her how much all your tools cost so she can price them right if you kick off unexpectedly. If she ends up selling them for what you've been telling her you paid for them, you'll be turning over in your grave!
I've got Abac Montecarlo OS20P 50 lt 2,0Hp. Looking to spray paint bumpers, bonets, doors, motorbike chassis, swingarm & odd house hold jobs. What gun would you recommend for me?
You don't need that big compressor, it does help to have one, but you can use an hvlp on the smaller compressors. Just watched a video yesterday of a guy spraying a fender with an hvlp on a pancake compressor. now to spray the whole car you would need to let it build up from time to time, but the point is it can be done.
Aaron James tnx but what is "standard air cap? As in normal any gun? Im new to this sorry for asking a noob qs i am thinking on buying the 3m spray kit see through tip on amazon dont know if its a great idea
1:07 is that " waterborne paints"? I'm sorry I'm not good with accents. Which can I use with zinsser 1-2-3 acrylic primer for exterior steel siding which the sun has UV ed through the original pain all the way to the galvanized metal.
of I have to choose betseen those 2 guns for that job it will be the HVLP with a 1.7 or 1.8 needle tip but that depends on the compressor you have.If you are on a budget or dont want to invest big cash on a gun you can go to tue harbor freight purple gun but I recommend the Husky HVLP gun from Home Depot, it even comes with 2 tips (1.4 and 1.8) and has low air requirements, nice gun for the price is the SKU# 762051
He is a Londoner, I'm from SW of the UK and find it difficult to understand as well, sounds like 'wibble wobble init bruv'. Anyway, I have a Fastmover 1.3mm LVLP gun, okay for solids spraying kitchen doors, but wasn't happy with it spraying 2k lacquer on car panels, so moved back to HVLP.
psi doesn't matter for painting. "LP" means "low pressure." All air compressors have more than enough pressure for painting. Look at SCFM/CFM (sustained cubic feet per minute) on your air compressor. A 3 gallon compressor isn't going to be able to sustain the airflow needed for painting.
@@andrewcady9443 I just bought an 8 gallon compressor and tested it by just coninuously squeezing the handle. It had enough volume to sustain the airflow, pretty much constantly, and took at least a minute for the compressor to kick back on. It's 150 lb. PSI and kicked on at about 140. I'm happy with it.

HVLP means you need low air pressure to get high volume of air
short and to the point thanks

Remember when LVLP was fine for everything and then companies wanted to make more money so they made HVLP and marketed the shit out of it? I do....
And they will work with smaller compressors, just watched a video of a guy using one with a pancake compressor
So for a single stage gloss black ,and gloss white a LVLP spray gun is the way to go

please cut the music so I can concentrate on your great info you are providing, but still a great vid.
Which one is best for enemal paint
You mentioned a larger compressor needed for HVLP, but didn't say what size needed for LVLP
Hello, please check our product description. www.fastmovertoolsuk.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=lvlp
@Paul Hopkins What are the typical specs for a small compressor that can be used with an lvlp gravity fed spray gun
You don't need that big compressor, it does help to have one, but you can use an hvlp on the smaller compressors. Can we use for house paint
It can be used for the whut whut whut???
Wait! Why did he say we need a High-Pressure gun for Metallic paint but raised the HVLP gun?
Dont think to much... focus in words...
"Unless you're painting with metallics in which case you need high pressure so you need a HVLP gun"....... What?
Well done lad
The difference between lvlp and hvlp is the hole sizes in the caps
What was the LVLP gun shown here?
Couldn't hear his voice over the big beat background music.
Water or solvent are nothing to do with HVLP / LVLP.
Which pressure is high, which is low?
yes
Conditional division is low ~ 0.7 bar, average ~ 1.2 bar, high both at the input and at the output. Something like this.
What do the letters HVLP . mean? Nic
High Volume Low Pressure
Fast Mover guns are throw away guns im afraid......good for 2k primers etc not top coats.
Nah, I learned with Fast Mover LVLP and still use one today for spraying heavy marine epoxy primers with a 1.8 nozzle.
so for cars its hvlp? i want to start painting but i already have small compressor 3 gallon. unless i need the hvlp then ill get a bigger one
You dont need HVLP, just a standard Air cap is fine.

why can't you paint metallic with the lvlp gun I have painted over 20 metallic cars with a lvlp gun???
Probably got 20 blotchy as fuck paint jobs.
@@m60hein totally agree, not the best gun for that job

Too small
You can paint fenders and doors...it is capable but get a clear filter and and water remover and keep an eye on water in the line.
