  • The song We Have all Been Blind from Phantom of the Opera.
Song composed and written by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Sang by Patrick Wilson, Emmy Rossum, Gerard Butler and other cast members
Yes, this is the movie version.
    Lyrics:
    Raoul:
We have all been blind and yet the answer is staring us in the face.
This could be the chance to ensnare our clever friend.
    Firmin and Andre:
    We're listening. Go on.
    Raoul:
We shall play his game, perform his work, but remember we hold the ace.
For if Ms. Daae sings, he is certain to attend.
    Firmin/Andre:
We are certain the doors are barred.
We are certain the police are there.
    Raoul:
    We are certain they're armed.
    Firmin/Andre/Raoul:
The curtain falls, his reign will end.
    Christine (speaking):
Raoul I'm frightened. Don't make me do this. It scares me.
Don't put me through this ordeal by fire.
He'll take me. I know. We'll be parted forever. He won't let me go.
What I once used to dream, I now dread. If he finds me it won't ever end.
    (singing)
And he'll always be there singing songs in my head.
He'll always be there singing songs in my head.
    Raoul:
You said yourself he was nothing but a man,
yet while he lives he will haunt us 'til we're dead.
    Christine:
Twisted every way, what answer can I give?
Am I to risk my life to win the chance to live?
Can I betray the man who once inspired my voice?
Do I become his prey? Do I have any choice?
He kills without a thought. He murders all that's good.
    I know I can't refuse, and yet I wish I could.
Oh God, if I agree what horrors wait for me, in this, the Phantom's opera?
    Raoul:
Christine, Christine don't think that I don't care,
but every hope, and every prayer rests on you now.
    Phantom:
Seal my fate tonight. I hate to have to cut the fun short.
But the jokes wearing thin, let the audience in, let my opera begin.

I just love the part 'I know I can't refuse, and yet I wish I could.' It gives it a new meaning to me after watching Love Never Dies.
I could always see that she did love the Phantom, but she saw what he was capable of and the actions he would do for her. It's not because she saw his face that she decided for Raul, this is seen when she sings 'God gave me the courage to show you, you are not alone' and then she kisses him with his mask off. The movie version made me hate Christine, but the play version really showed me her anguish of having to choose between her childhood love and the Phantom who gave her a voice to sing. She didn't choose beauty over brain. She loved them both in a way.
Watch Love Never Dies. It was beautiful. You could see the decision haunted her for years after and then she was able to make the choice again and she made the one that she wished she had done. She choose the Phantom.

It was this moment I realized I was rooting for the phantom (In the movie version.) "Christine, Christine, don't think that I don't care. But every hope, and every prayer rest on you now!"
It wasn't so douchey in the broadway version, but in the movie, GO PHANTOM!

My favorite part is when the phantom says "I hate to cut the fun short but the joke's wearing thin". I dunno but I find it so hot when he says that line :)

yes taken out of context what Raoul says could be deemed selfish but to me, it seems as if he is saying that if there was anyway to take down the phantom without her he would but that there isn't, christine is the only true link they have to him and without her there is no plan...and as he said in the begining of the song "you said yourself he is nothing but a man yet while he lives he will haunt us til we're dead" basically she will never be free of him unless he is taken down.

I love Raoul's voice. why does everyone hate raoul? he just loves Christine and wants what's best for her. and as you can tell from this song, Christine is terrified of the phantom. the phantom loves christine, but christine is terrified of him, and she loves raoul. so in the end, she married the man she loved. it's better that she married raoul because she married for love, not because she was threatened. anyway, I'll step off my soapbox now.

I saw this recently on the stage and I have too say I loved it! This scene was very good especially before the phantom sing the end part when the locking the doors and Raoul says 'you are lock in now' or something and the phantoms is like 'I'm here, I'm here, I'm here,' all in different places! :D

Exactly why I like Phantom much better...even though he occasionally kills people and such and his view of love is so twisted. xD I love the drama this love-triangle ensues, but I'm not as involved with it as I am other romances simply because I don't really like either dude...but I do prefer Phantom hands down for reasons already stated. One of my friends on the other hand is OBSESSED with Raoul and I'm having trouble understanding *why*. xD

@beautifullybroken012 I like it too! I think she is supposed to be terrified, yet maybe still somewhat entranced by the Phantom: "Can I betray the man, who once inspired my voice?" knowing she has to face the Phantom, though she wishes she didn't. Terrified to do so, yet knowing she has to, for the sake of Raul and herself, and everyone else there. I think the actor puts all the right tones and inflections into all the right words in that part. giving the right emotion and effect.

I really love this version of The Phantom of the Opera, the moment between Christine and Raoul is so emotional. I was wondering, however, if the fierceness of Gerard Butler's voice is too much for this particular scene. Does anyone else feel it would be more fitting and sinister if, for just this one moment, he showed the Phantom's cunning, scheming and ruthlessly composed side?

I have to be honest, I've read the book, and going on thatm I don't think the Phantom is appropriately portrayed in the movie. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie, but in my opinion it paints Erik as a victim rather than the attacker. The man is a genius gone insane. He is a monster. He wasn't always -- a life of cruelty and abuse shaped him -- but there is no excuse for his crimes. If Christine stays with him in the darkness, she will die. That's why he lets her go in the end.

I know Christine was terrified of Erik but he loved her and he helped her! Though he did kidnap her I don't know why she didn't love him back and I know that she had a bad time choosing and so now for Raoul. He is so sweet and only wants to protect her and love her and I know she's happier with him and she loves him so she got what she wanted but Erik is so romantic and he can be sweet too even if he is clever and terrifying to most... But they can both sing and I love their voices. But in my p

@SebastianKuro2278 yeah i'm siding with Christine... i understand PERFECTLY why she didn't love him, i mean sure he was mistreated and shunned from the world but he was a murderer. she he loved her but he gave her the ultimatum of choose me or i'll kill someone... yeah i can understand where she's coming from, he may have loved her but he was a creep and i do not have pity for him in the fact that she chose Raoul!

Am I the only one who thinks Raoul is being a little selfish here? I mean "Christine, Christine don't think that I don't care, but every hope, and every prayer rests on you now." That's like saying "If you screw up, we're all dead. But no pressure though." And this isn't the only time he does this. In the final song he pressures Christine into saving him. "Choose whoever you want, but choose wrong and I die. STILL no pressure." What a douche. ;)
