- I just got this fixed In January and it’s been used maybe 10 times since then other wise stored in a bag, and now we have the same issue, however it’s a 2 for one since the right side ports don’t work either. Maybe they will replace the whole thing for a new design one, doubtful , wishful thinking LOL .
Seems like everyone that’s bought one of these laptops has had the same issue, mine lasted 1 year before this happened.
then whatu have done about the issue ..pls tell now i m facing the same hinge issue ..pls help ..my laptop is under warrenty ..so is dell will solve the prob or still i need to pay them ?? ..pls tell the solution.
@@prathameshnerkar6001 mine wasn’t under warranty so I bought a rear lid, bezel and new hinges and payed someone to fix it for me however in your case I would do the same as I’ve heard that Dell take a long time to dispute this sort of issue. It only cost me £40/50 for the parts and then I’m sure if you know someone good with pc parts they could change the parts for free
Same mine just started acting like this a few weeks ago out of nowhere
@@prathameshnerkar6001 See my new post at the top. SOLVED!
same 10 months is the limit
this one is on a constant sale on Dell website, and now I know why. I was about to buy it for my kid, glad I didn't - thanks for the video! :)
Go with ideapad gaming 3 or Nitro 5,avoid GF63 at all cost
I have one and have this same problem
The fact that they changed the working, good design of the 2018 model to this terrible, easily breakable, bad design in 2019 is disappointing.
I have the same problem. It’s a relief I wasn’t the only one experiencing this!
I had this same problem and eventually grew tired of the screen making that clicking noise when opening and closing, so I opened it up to see what was wrong. I found that there are 2 separate hinges each fixed to the base with 2 screws and to the screen with 5 screws. The problem is that the screws attached to the screen are so shallow that the grub inserted to the plastic breaks out. The left hinge was completely loose, while the right was still attached to 2 of the 5 screws. I removed the hinges and loosened the nut that regulates the force required to open and close and using a 2 part steel epoxy fastened the grubs that broke out. I use it every day so is opened and closed at least once per day. Been just over a week and still working perfect, if I hadn't loosened the nut though I am sure it would have broken off to some extent again. There is just too much pressure on the nut causing too much required force to open.
Same here. I'm not a gamer, and I need the specs to handle the software loaded to my laptop. I purchased it in September 2019, within six months, the hinge cracked. By June 2020 it became a 2n1 system. I had to argue to get the hinge fixed the first time. I had to purchase a warranty, and I'm so glad that I did. By 3/2021 the hard drive failed twice and replaced the motherboard twice because of the hard drive. The hard drive began to fail for the third time in 8/21, and today I am using a 2n1 system again. I called, and I could not get to the appropriate department. I've been a consumer of Dell since 2000; previous systems lasted five years. This malfunction is a first, and I will not give them another cent.
I had to purchase $100 extra year on my service contract, but Dell did fix my hinge issue which also started causing the screen to pop out. They also replaced the entire keyboard as I reported I had a single key that was worn. It stinks that I had an issue and had to pay for another year of warranty, but I'm glad the device is looking and working well again. I've had this for about 4 years and it has been a great laptop, super fast and other than the hinge/screen I have had no other issue. I paid around $750 for it after it was on sale and I found a $200 online coupon. I have other Dell products and so far they have held up well.
safe to say i probably won't be buying another dell laptop again
Bought it on black friday and was quite happy with the performance. Took great care of it and still broke never buying dell again
It's sad to read the comments, to see the many people who had the same problem, because I also have that problem for the second time, I will not buy a Dell product again.
Much appreciated, I was wondering why there was no heat near the vents, somehow failed to realize until I watched your clip that the vents are actually blocked by the lid
Seeing as there are no support for the outer parts of the nonexistent hinge. You should really only open it holding the center. That way the pressure is balanced. I recently bought a g3 15 3500 (2020) because i like how lowkey it is when bringing to an office. I hope mine would last long.
Yours is still fine?
@@ikigai_i yes very much fine even though I frequently open/close it for the whole day. Just make sure you do it right and not put uneven pressure on the hinge
FYI - It will break regardless of how you open it, the brass inserts inside the plastic are just bound to fail. I’ve opened it from the center every time and it still managed to fail a year ago.
@@im_sarge_bro4542 really man.. so far mine's all good. Kinda sad since I really like its looks since it feels just right at the office with a subtle gamer feel. I"ll try being more gentle at it
@@jonnyc351 don't worry, it's so easy to fix it. Look " fixe hinge with Epoxy Dell g3 " on youtube :)
The G series we founded after the success of dell Inspiron 7559 (now called the g-series). The dell Inspiron 7559 had a hinge problem too that cracked the case open. I am surprised that it was not fixed in the new generation of G series.
Having exactly the same issue with my G3..
same here. are you going to repair it yourself?
how did you fix it?
I have a g3 15 3500 gtx 1660 ti edition. To avoid all these hinge issues I use an external portable 15.6 inch monitor. Only have to crack the lid open slightly for the laptop to turn on then close the lid
Quick question, I have this same computer (for almost three years) and I have never experienced this hinge problem until this morning where the one side popped out. How exactly did you go about getting it fixed? You said you sent it off and that you had insurance? Just wondering because I don't what the problem to get worse obviously. Thank you so much!
Hello, yeah I had the warranty that came with it and I extended it another year. I believe outside of warranty the part it self is around $80.00 or so. Really all they did is replace the lid/screen with a new one since it's all or it can be all one assembly. So far this is the 3rd one and it doesn't have any issues. But then again I'm not using it as a primary computer any more
Yeah, it happened to mine G3 also. Luck, it was still under warranty and Dell replaced the entire LCD for free. But I know it will happen again.
u have 5 months to go and it will.
Mine just broke today. I've had it for four months. It's a terrible design. There are four screws on each side that are incredibly short so there's not much holding the screws in. Also the hinge is very stiff so there's a lot more pressure on those screws than there should be. I'll never buy another dell laptop. The tech on the phone tried to tell me the problems are onlyv on the 3590 but that's ridiculous because it's the same exact design as my 3500.
Did u paid for this ?? or freely replaced ??
@@prathameshnerkar6001 they repaired under warranty.
Omg this happened to me a couple days back and it’s the exact same side that you mentioned in the video
yep this happened to me back in December of last year but here it is happening right now again, mine is about 2-3 years old but other than the hinge problem it's doing great
This explains why mine failed too. I thought I sprung the hing by having something in the way when I closed the lid. Not buying Dell ever again.
Yeah bro waste of money .they said its a premium model .still while moving the display .screen go hang
This same exact shit happened to me. The hinge seemingly broke out of nowhere. Now I know why
Got my hinge repaired a year or so ago... Hardly used it! Then today... Tried to open it and now it's stuck! Scared to open it because I can hear the cracks.
It's a damn good laptop BUT this serious fault forces me to advise you... Don't Bother! It simply isn't worth it!
Now I have to go get expensive repairs... Again!
I had the same problem, mine lasted about a year and a half and that's with 90% desk use
Please, advice me.. The same problem has appeared after the warranty.. Will i go to a technical to solve it or let it open? Cause iam afraid that after reparing it the same problem goes back
When i saw this video I'm really careful and i never close my g3 lcd i just leave it open..then one time i close it because i move it on different place guess what the issue of hinge happen🤔 ... Its very seldom that i am closing my lcd panel and still the same issue happens very disappointed 😕
I don't have that on mine. It is a different back to it. I guess mine is different make. Good to know I don't have this type dell G3.
I feel less worried about my situation now. I was concerned the broken parts were due to excessive heat from a new game ive been playing. I never noticed the exhaust was hitting my screen.
Happened to me after 3/4 years guess i got lucky it lasted that long 😂
yup, happening to my exact model too
Never open lid from corner of screen. Always from center… on any laptop
Same problem!!, 😤 from nothing after the warranty left 😭
SAME... how did you fix it?
@@fantingayraud6262 gave it to service, fortunately i had warranty, Dell changed whole top cover😬
@@VikkieLi hey .. really ..my too is in warrenty ..what shall i do pl tell me..??
@@prathameshnerkar6001 you need to get it to store where u did buy the laptop. They will tell you exact steps you need to do. In Russia i just had to give them laptop, paycheck. I assume it works same at ur country. No idea how to deal with that if u bought it online. (Maybe call online store service first) 🤷♀️
i bought G3 one year ago and suddenly the right hinge got broken. i've got it repaired once and recently some problem arise. the screen will go blank if i open the screen above 90degrees in angle. it also go on and off if my laptop went overheat. i just found out that this problem occured in this series, most likely common in dell series. i feel totally dissapointed because if i send this laptop for reparation once again and later on sell this laptop, i dont think people would buy it because its hardware problem, where the price also greatly affected because of this problem. if i still keep this laptop idk how many and what problems i will encounter in near future.
Went to turn mine on today and hinges are completely shot in the same way. I can probably count the number of times I've opened the screen on one hand, mine sits on a dock hooked up to duel monitors for months at a time. Two of the screws popped out when I went to open it, that stiff of a hinge and held on with 1mm screws into 1mm of weak plastic. What on earth were they thinking.
Hey, may I know which series you are talking about in the video? Is it 3500 or 3590?
I am owner of one of this faulty design G3 , Premium warranty , Replaced two times in 4 months , its really disappointing , I am afraid of when warranty runs out..Please give me your suggestion for what to do , what you have done ?
Its right side for me I think dell made improvement lol
Well I plan on renewing warranty again, good news the whole assembly to replace your self is less than $90.00 but still a pain to deal with, the screen removal is super easy and then it’s just the antenna and then the lcd plug. I’ve seen a few RUclips videos of people drilling in their own bolts it doesn’t look the greatest but seems to work. I’m wondering if putting some oil in the hinge to make it move more fluid if they would help
@@thirddays I don't know, I regret buying this laptop, paying extra money to cover the design defects , paying that again and again. I don't have that kind of money to spare. I'll figure out something. Well lubrication, technique to open lid, no matter how much you try this will occur again and again unless some solid fix.
@@KillerWhale619 I feel the same way I wish I had some deeper research on it before instead of just purchasing it out of random. Though aside from the hinge it does perform quite well. I ended up upgrading to Alienware and let my son game on the g3 and so far this new hinge has had no issues or signs of any issues
My dell G3 also got same problem already 2 times repair but now also same problem the warranty almost expired. Ask me buy extend warranty....Rm7++ for extend warranty. This product got hinge problem why still sell at market.
Please advice me, the same problem appeared after the warranty would i take it to a technical or let it open?will this hinge broken affect the screen?
@@marwanmarzouk2343 if u already repair better let it open. The hinge got problem. I repair 4 days only got problem again but if hinge never broken dell won't repair. Just ask u use...my warranty will end at oct 2021...i won't buy dell again.
@@marwanmarzouk2343 screen still can use u just let it open, u can use masking tape if side open u just use the tape. If no warranty repair very expensive. If after repair u open and close the hinge will broken again. This G3 got hinge problem.

You really can't

Thanks alot mate 💜️🤘
My dell g3 3500 hinge automatically broken couple of days ago, I have asked for warranty repair. I don't expect from Dell such quality failiure issue. Dell must give one more laptop free to all people facing such problem.
I know Dell company since last 18years, when I used to work for making of Dell headstacks I knew that Dell qualifications is toughest with 6sigma quality. One of best company Dell spoiling it's reputation in market for hinge problem??? Dell can I know what's this strategy for?
Mine just broke.... I don't even have the money to get it fixed 😪
I was using my laptop for 3 years before this happened.
I just had same issue and I contacted customer care and they fixed it.But again issue same issue came today. I just bought 4 months ago. Cracking sound started within week. I much worried about it. Im not rich and I have spent an year Salary to buy it. Anyone reply me what could I do?
Does the manufacturer offer repairs? I purchased mine refurbished from the online store and the screen has catastrophically failed, to the point where I can barely use it. (I need it for school and remote work, not just gaming) The screen is completely separated from the hinge and can only be used if propped up like an open book... Honestly, I'm desperate to get this thing fixed any way possible.
my laptop also have same problem and unfortunately it is out of warranty now .
How can I avoid something like that happen?
Leave it open as much as possible to avoid closing and opening
I use it as a desktop so I don't even have to use the hinges
What is the price of hingh
It’s easier to do the whole assembly which is 78 dollars I’ve seen the lowest
@@thirddays how/where do you get someone to do the whole assembly-- or is that something you do on your own?

@@jrsalmeron93 yeah no problem, i try to keep up with all my comments as much as possible. Honestly the G3 i bought i hadn't done much research, i needed a laptop for my wife to use for work and i bought that thinking i could game on it as well. After reading up on it i learned that the hinge was it's major design flaw, everyone said at some point the hinge will fail regardless of what you do. I figured i could care for mine extra and i would be good, but mine failed too. mine had never been handled roughly never slammed around never opened from the sides always the center, but yet still failed just like the form said it would. Few people have made their own remedies on RUclips, but i didn't want it to look different. or put screw holes in it. Now my third hinge feels a lot better so maybe this will be it? I totally rec. a warranty after the standard, i purchased mine for 99 i could of gotten it for 86 if i acted sooner. like a month before it expired. Honestly though i was very pleased with the performance mine had the I5 with the 1660 TI max q, i must say the computer handled pretty much every game on max settings, and had decent frame rate, the only ones that had to be turned down a bit was doom, but still on high, and then red dead, need for speed heat. The tech guy said that the newer models have been improved so maybe they came up with a better internal hinge design? what i think happens is the screws are very thin against plastic, so i think the heat expands it over time and it becomes weak
I own dell g3 15 3500 and guess what this hinge issue still persist. I encountered dell service and they replaced the whole hinge system along with the display. I am really worried about this issue after the warranty period.
Same thing happened to me they replaced it and it started again
Will the screen break?
No the screen hasn’t broke on the two assembly’s that did this, the first one it became useless as there was no more support to hold the screen up but the screen it self still worked
