    I am autistic, though much more verbal than some due to hyperlexia. The Good Doctor is the only show that has ever made me jump out of my seat and yell at the screen--not because I was angry, but because it's the only time I've ever seen media/TV depict how I think! I visualize images and scenarios in much the same way as how they depict the 3D diagrams pop up next to Shaun's head, and it made me feel so happy to know that someone in the industry actually GETS IT and understands how to portray that!

    • @RemrovsWorldofArtandAutism
      @RemrovsWorldofArtandAutism  6 лет назад +23

      Me too. It made me so happy watching it, and relate to it so much. I have watched movies before about autistic people, but often we are not portrayed in a correct way I find. But this show is awesome. I still find verbal communication very difficult, I rehearse my videos a lot, and i always have it written out completely. Conversations I find even more difficult. I'm often the very quiet one in a group.

      I'm sorry to "give you homework" but are you familiar with Daniel Tammet? Probably should check him out if you haven't.
      He's an artistic savant pretty much as this guy, and he also has this thing called Synesthesia which sounds very similar to your described 3D diagram pop up experience.
      If you could tell me whether you believe you might have Synesthesia or not that would be of much help to me.
      Thank you!

    I am from Korea, and as the daughter of a medical nurse, I am familiar to the original South Korean medical drama this show is based on. I think the American rendition carries a more positive message in the portrayal, especially the scene where the Murphy brothers was playing hide and seek inside the storage with train carriages. In that scene, the children were laughing and fooling around together, with no one mocking or harassing Shaun because of his autism. A moment of innocent equality where autism didn't matter! Also, Shion (the protagonist in the Korean series) was overly cautious or timid in his actions due to the constant abuse and derision, whereas Shaun is definitely more straightforward, more aggressive, and unafraid of challenges. I felt that Freddie Highmore's portrayal of Shaun gives a more positive message, and I appreciate ABC for giving the character the confidence that everyone needs to see.
    The only thing that throws me off is my mom's voiced complaints whenever she claims that there is an "error" in a medical scene. Only a few weeks ago, she was fuming at the part where Shaun and Claire removed the clot from the liver in the midst of traffic, because the implant organs "should never be left in a such unstable environment" X-D

    • @RemrovsWorldofArtandAutism
      @RemrovsWorldofArtandAutism  7 лет назад +28

      It's great to read your insights about the differences between the Korean show and the America one. It's sounds indeed that the American Shaun is portrayed more positive, although it is logical that Shaun would be a bit more shy and timid.After I was bullied for many years I was sure very shy and timid.

    • @제정은-f7j
      @제정은-f7j 7 лет назад +24

      I understand the logic too. I've been bullied as well, throughout my whole teenage years, with my confidence retreating up to the point where I could no longer sit down at the cafeteria and eat lunch among the other students. But after watching The Good Doctor, I have kept a happier vision in my life, and I've started to open up towards various communities and intermingle with other people.
      I was never officially tested for/diagnosed with autism. When I was about 7 or 8 years old, my mother noticed signs of habit tic syndrome (something unfortunately I have never been able to shake off since) and suspected that I was "different". After watching the signs as well as analyzing my past behavior, she came to the conclusion that I might have Asperger's Syndrome. However, due to the heavy social stigma towards autism, Mom decided not to get me tested for Asperger's. Even as an adult, I still do not know if I have Asperger's, although I do sense the feeling that I'm a bit socially awkward. I haven't had a chance to get a proper checkup, but I hope I'll get the chance to do so and learn a bit more about my true self.

    I have worked with Autistic teenagers for 35 years. My brother was a genius, but not Autistic. I was his only friend. He was my only friend. He killed himself 17 years ago. I do love the neurodiverse because you are truly my only friend set. Thank you so much for reaching across the divide. When I hear your voice, I hear my brother and I am so comforted. I am 60 this year. I heard about Autism when I was eleven and I just knew that doctors and psychologists were misinterpreting what they observed. They were classifying Autistic babies as RAD children and blaming/punishing mothers for their sensory, social, and language needs. My brother was brilliant, I was just smart enough to get by. Not smart like you. My poor brother was horrific. He was afraid of everything that my mother was afraid of: water, bacteria, inadequate oxygen, roller coasters, horror books and movies, women and girls, children, cats, and many more things.
    You are lovely and do not need to be "cured". Humans come in many forms and we are not bad. We are just different. Love to you and yours. Thank you.

    I agree with what you're saying. I've not been diagnosed with autism, but I have social anxiety so I find it very difficult to look at people's faces or eyes and I have severe OCD. I thought it was very relatable too. Freddie Highmore is a fantastic young actor and obviously has a huge natural gift for it.

    The Good Doctor is one of my favorite shows! Freddie Highmore is an amazingly talented actor and a good choice to play the Doctor. He is educated and articulate, himself. I appreciate his character's honesty in dealing with situations (and disarming those who aren't very kind). I like that the show has visual images of how his mind processes things. I appreciate your insight and sensitivity in explaining all of this in ways I never thought of. I wish you only kindness from those you meet and a very happy life!

It even inspired me to pick up medicine, which is now one of my special interests! Thank you! The other day I was at the hospital, and I had to get a new hospital card first. You always have to take a number there. I noticed that there were not many other people waiting, but I took a number anyway. But while I was doing that, this man, who worked at that section of the hospital just started shouting at me that I just had to go to the second desk. He kept on shouting the same sentence three times. First I thought he was joking, because it was just so rude, so I smiled at him. But his face was very serious, and he wasn't joking at all. And then I really think to myself, this man has a job here with that kind of behaviour and treating patients of the hospital like this? I would never treat people like that. Then indeed I'm wondering, who is the one who needs the cure?

    • @JulieV5683
      @JulieV5683 6 лет назад +3

      Remrov's World of Autism yes, some people can be so rude. I am so sorry you were treated that way. There is no excuse for that type of behavior directed at anyone. It is hard for me to watch those types of situations on the show because it hurts my heart. I keep wanting to protect Shaun. I recently met a friend who has a 16 year old son with autism. He is so sweet, polite, and extremely smart. He is a joy to be around. The other day his mom called to tell me something had happened to him at school and I just wanted run over and hug him and tell him everything would be okay. But he isn't much of a hugger so I asked his mom to hug him from me. A few days later I saw him and even though i wasn't really remembering the incident, he asked me for the hug. I was so touched, to the point of tears. What a wonderful young man. He is perfect indeed. God bless you, Remrov. Thank you for teaching us how you see the world. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

      Anyone who hurts others need to change But there is nothing wrong with feeling you want to change yourself So if anyone, autistic or not, isn't satisfied with something in itself, there's nothing wrong with that. Autustic do have difficulties they would want help with.

  • @EagerOnlooker
    @EagerOnlooker 5 лет назад +2

    It's mentioned in this video, but I want to say how much I LOVE how the show portrays Shaun's pauses as extremely thoughtful and fast-moving. I find it very accurate. While it's helpful to let typical people know you're thinking while you're processing, I think it's great that the show illustrates that the silence isn't ignoring. That can be a hard concept for people to relate to or understand.

    It’s not people with autism that need to change its society that needs to learn to adapt and change.
    I believe that the world would be a much nicer place if they were to stop and learn from people with autism. Like you said it’s not you that’s judging or bullying..... the way you was treated as an intern is disgusting and I truly hope that when society finally changes to fully accept the ways and strengths of autistic people they will realise just how unfair they have behaved.

    I love this show so much. I'm very fascinated by autism because everyone who has it is so different. I love the diagrams because they show us how Shaun thinks differently from those who are neurotypical. I have Cerebral Palsy, and sometimes I, like Shaun, need extra time to process information. Sometimes people get impatient with me because of that. I feel very protective of Shaun as I watch. Anyone else feel that way?

    • @RemrovsWorldofArtandAutism

      I definitely feel the same way. I find it difficult to see if people don't believe in Shaun or when they get impatient with him, because it's so recognizable for me. It takes me more time as well to process information, and people can get very impatient or even angry.

    I really love the good doctor. I am not autistic but in my disability I have symptoms that replicate autism. I really like this show and I relate to a lot of it. One of the main things is that socializing is difficult for me. Another is that people always tell me I can't. The most recent episodes where he is trying to break away from his mentor and make his own decisions. My parents have a hard time allowing me to do this and so im trying really hard to break away without severing my relationships. I have a hard time showing myself in a "normal" way. I often tell people my opinions and what I think they should do even though they don't always want my advice. I have a habit of coming off stand offish or un moving. While my speech is good my social skills need work.

    I only started watching The Good Doctor yesterday, but have already had great fun and emotional moments during the episodes I've watched. The main character seems just so genuine to me, and even though I don't have autism, I'm just a bland, boring kid, I often felt like I could relate to his reactions or actions. I'm truly glad that the show represents the condition accurately and without dramatizing, romanticizing or somehow changing it. Of course I couldn't judge how far this applies, which is why I thank you, Remrov, a lot for this video. Freddy Highmore seems to me like an amazing actor and I will have lots of fun continuing to watch this show.

    I don't want to comment on the show, which is spectacular but I want to thank you for sharing your ideas and your feelings in comparison with Dr. Murphy. As for most people it is difficult to understand an autistic point of view, because they don't have a reference. Thanks to your video and TGD, they can see and hear what it is like. I have worked with some kids and adults on the spectrum and I am astonished how amazing these people are. As wonderful as you, thank you for that.

The Good Doctor makes me think and afterwards me and my mom have great conversations about what we watched. I did not realize until the show but I do think in pictures and so often for me the words just do not come. Instead a one or two word response may come. I write and read my words for speeches which are easy for me and I like to do this but a conversation is very struggled for me. Hello Remrov. I will be a student of psychology next year. I love learning about the ways humanity do the things that they do and love learning about the brain to. When I started seeing the serie "The good doctor" I became curious about autism so I became interested in learning about people who have autism so I could learn a way to communicate better with them. I think not only the autistic people have to learn how to communicate with the non-autistic people but the non-autistic people should learn to communicate with them. I also think the people without autism should learn, at least, the basic about autism, so they could be more acceptive. And I think I talked to much but my mind has to much things and ideas in a few time so I need to write more to organize it. Sorry for my English, I am portuguese and the text was big, so it must have mistakes.
    I love your work here, bye

    • @RemrovsWorldofArtandAutism
      @RemrovsWorldofArtandAutism  7 лет назад

      Your English is great. I think non-verbal people do try to communicate but just not in a verbal way. There a lot of other ways of communicating. When i was younger I could learn a lot better by looking at things and by seeing examples instead of learning by hearing words. I still struggle with language a lot. Often when I read a book i just don't grasp what is described. When i see it in an image it's a lot better for me. The more people understand about autism the better, because that way we can make the gap between the autistic world and the neurotypical one smaller.

      Actually I also learn better with visual stimulant. Sometimes is the only way I can understand things, with examples or pictures.
      I think people should be more taugth how to deal with the diferences since very young ages. That way not only the world would be a very good place to live but the humanity would be more evolved.

    Remrov I'm sorry you got fired from your job. I'm sorry people couldn't see your potential in that setting. Obviously you are an exceptional artist and can see and focus on details others don't. A true talent and attention to tiny details are attributes hospitals could benefit from & it's patients. Hospital settings are ruthless sometimes, I know from personal experience. I get emotional from watching the show too, although I'm not an autist I have an LD. So it's hard for me to process information too. I'm slower and people don't have the patience in the workforce "why don't you get this faster"? So I feel and understand the frustrations you might have... thanks for sharing your thoughts, your story, and your wonderful art. It's okay to be different.

      Thank you very much for your kind words. People always used to tell me as well 'why don't you understand this by now' and things like that. I just couldn't learn the way other kids did, I learned by watching, or doing things myself, instead of learning from words. One person at the hospital lab where i was fired, told me that from the beginning they were afraid to give me a chance, because before me they had another autistic man working in their lab and he messed a lot of tasks up. But I was still angry of course, because it's just actually discrimination. I didn't mess anything up. But maybe it was a good thing after all, because I would never have fit in there anyway, and I'm much happier being an artist.

    • @ninjatops99
      @ninjatops99 7 лет назад +3

      Remrov's World of Autism YES! Exactly, it's complete discrimination! It's painful... I'm very sad about losing my job at the hospital too, since I loved it. But the bullying was unreal... for me, I just know I've got to go back to the medical field since I've never dreamed of doing anything different. But I just want you to know you're an inspiration & I thank you again, for sharing your story. Im empowered to know that I'm not alone. And other people like me, like you, like us exist and we do matter.

    Thank you for the review. It's really cool to hear it from a different point of view. My husband is has high functioning, low spectrum autism, he also finds Shaun relatable. Brilliant clip Remrov. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings. Your insight was fascinating, I was glued to every word you said. Also, I was pleased to hear you approve of how The Good Doctor has portrayed Shaun. Personally speaking, I felt the show has taken a very enlightened attitude concerning autism. However, my personal knowledge is limited, in comparison to yourself and can not match your first-hand life experiences. As I listened to you, I sensed some of Shaun in your personality. You appear to have his tenacity, his determination, his desire to grow and evolve. His sweet nature. That can't be a bad thing.
    Shaun is an amazing character. I've been hooked on the show since the start. I cried my eyes out watching the first episode and learning his story. Actually, I think I've cried every week. Whenever they remind you of his brother, I lose it. To be honest Remrov, even before I watched The Good Doctor, I have felt that autism doesn't deserve to be categorized so negatively. Many are extremely gifted and I simply see a personality type, exactly how everyone else is categorized. Yes, some personalities are extreme, but it's not a bad thing. We are all unique. If a person can function in society, then they are an active part of society. Exactly like you. Exactly like Shaun.
    I wish you all the best for a long, happy and healthy life Remrov.
    Peace. =)

      Thank you very much Duncan. It means a lot to me. I also feel that autism is often looked at in a very negative way, this is a pity. Some parents think that if their autistic child has a lot of meltdowns for example, that it is part of autism, but it doesn't have to be. Many people call autism a disability, but I prefer to say that I am differently abled. There are things that are indeed extremely difficult or even impossible for me to do, but there are also things that I can do, things that neurotypical people find very difficult. I feel the The Good Doctor shows this in a vey good way. Shaun is a huge positive asset to the hospital with the gifts he has.
      I also wish you all the best, and a very happy life to you.

    • @bullzdawguk
      @bullzdawguk 7 лет назад +2

      I love your optimism Remrov. Despite your feelings about how autism is often seen negatively, it doesn't change the positive way you view it on a personal level. In fact, your solution is exactly what I do. Sometimes we need to put a new spin on things. A slight shift in perspective empowers us. So, you are not disabled, you are differently abled. I love that!
      As well, you are keenly aware of your limitations and recognise there may be things that are difficult or impossible for you. This does not deter you. You brush that aside. It's not about what you can't do. Instead, it's about the things you can do that others find difficult. In effect, you know precisely how special you are.
      Don't ever forget these things. Always remember you are able and that you have abilities which make you stand out. As a writer, the most rewarding words I write have a positive effect on a person. Making people laugh through humour is one way. Another is what I'm trying to achieve here. Hearing how much you appreciated my words was the best I could hope for. Let them empower you. After all, that is their intention.
      By the way, I love how they portray Shaun's thought process in the show. It really is an effective way to show how complicated his thought process is and where his true intelligence lies. So, Shaun may appear strange to some people on the surface, but it's just the surface. Scratch that surface and you see something else entirely different.
      All my sincere wishes Remrov!

    • @RemrovsWorldofArtandAutism
      @RemrovsWorldofArtandAutism  7 лет назад +2

      Thank you very much. Yeah, The word 'disabled' is very weird and wrong in my view. Like what ability are we talking about exactly that is 'dis'? There are things I can't do, or things that are very difficult for me, but instead of those things there are things I can do really really well, like making pencil drawings. So I call it differently abled indeed. It would be very wrong if I would call people who cannot make drawings like me disabled.

    • @bullzdawguk
      @bullzdawguk 7 лет назад +2

      Sweetheart, every person on the planet is "disabled", when you think about it. Can any of us fly? Can we finally achieve a tolerant world of peace? Can we perform miracles? Humanity isn't as able as it would like to believe. All we can do is strive to help make the impossible a reality. Well. Apart from flying. I may have over-reached with that one. lol But, I believe we can achieve world peace and when we do, we will have performed our first miracle.
      I love working with pencils too. As well, I work using coloured pencils, paint, watercolour and oil. High definition technical drawing pens are fun too, you can achieve all sorts of effects. Also, I love clay polymer sculpture and creating whatever pops into my mind. Lately, I've been making miniature bonsai trees, with a tiny pond made from clear epoxy. The ponds even have tiny koi swimming. lol Woodworking and learning guitar are my goals for this year. Safe to say, I have the soul of an artist. lol It's funny, but as I improve with my writing, it has transformed my sketching. One unconnected part makes a difference to another. Quite remarkable, when you think about it. There's a powerful lesson there about how the different aspects of our talents and identity all play their part and define us.
      I'm looking forward to learning guitar. Like every aspect of my art, I will teach myself. I don't worry about finding the time. I want to do it. A valuable lesson life has taught me is that when we are truly passionate about something, it gives us the drive to achieve that passion. I don't need a teacher, it was impossible for me to learn when I was at school. Telling me what to learn about won't work. I need to tell myself what I want to learn about. I am my own best teacher. Anyway, I believe learning the guitar will complete how I see art in my mind. It's like a pizza, cut into slices. Music is the one slice that is missing. In effect, I'll feel complete as an artist. All my artist expression will be influenced by the other parts. I look forward to seeing where that evolves.
      Look at me, writing another wall of words. But, in my defence, I am a passionate writer. We do what it says on the label. lol

      I actually see it like this -- or everybody is disabled, or nobody' :) Since everybody has things they are good at, and everybody has things they can't do. Many years ago I also loved making things with sculpture clay. I would love to see what you make. I have never heard of high definition technical drawing pens. I'm going to look that up. I also always teach everything myself, I don;t like taking lessons, like art classes or music lessons or anything. In the Netherlands I used to lay the piano. I had to leave my piano behind though when I immigrated to Montreal.

    My son is in spectrum. When he got called up to answer a question in the class, it takes him a long time to answer. But most of teachers either don’t understand or lost patience with him. His class participation grade is always low even though his grade is good. I wish people especially his teachers can understand it’s not like something he can just changes.

    I really liked your take on the show, Remrov. I can also relate to a lot of what you have said with respect to your personal experiences. It is fantastic of you to share your thoughts/thinking with others - I believe that it will help to garner better interactions amongst Autistics and Neurotypicals.
    With respect to the show, I too find myself being somewhat more emotionally invested with much of what is being portrayed. One scene, in particular, (I believe it is from Season 1, Episode 09) that I really appreciate is when Shaun cannot help but focus on the Mr. Potato Head toy that has an atypical arrangement of facial features (with respect to where features would normally reside on a person's face) - he seems to feel compelled to "correctly" reconfigure the toy. I tend to have the same compulsion with respect to unsolved Rubik's Cubes. I also really like the scene (I don't recall the episode) where Shaun has misplaced his screwdriver.
    Additionally, I also relate to what you said about projects and the hardware (or other) store. I might not always know the name of what I am looking for because if it doesn't exist or isn't in stock (equivocally the same in my opinion), I'll simply make it.
    Keep up the good fight!

    I love the message this show portrays and I’m sure it’s inspired a lot of people. Your disability is what you make of it. Although you should not have been profiled because of your Autism, and I’m sorry that you got bullied because of it. You, as much as everyone else deserve a chance without judgement. If you excel at something, a disability shouldn’t be the deciding factor as to whether you’re good enough. Autistic or not, you’re still a human being with human feelings.

I'm also a woman that was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome and a learning disability when I was 5 years old. People with autism are not different than everyone else, its just when it comes to things in life like school, friends, getting a job, living alone, a relationship(marriage), they just need a little more support than others.

    I love the show. Freddie Highmore is an amazingly talented actor and can bring a character to life that can be related to and understood. I have a friend with an autistic child and a new relative that works with Autistic children. I myself was bullied for 8 yrs. in grade school. I was socially awkward and people thought I was weird. I was never diagnosed or looked into why I think so differently or why I feel so differently with reactions to things..but I feel it is some sort of personalty issue..Names like Ugly, stupid, and garbage baby (I was adopted) were a daily thing during that time. Although even as an adult I do con't to get insults.I can stick up for others but not for myself. I grew up believing that everyone is equal and should be treated with dignity no matter what. I am glad the show brings so many things to light and that it plants a seed or two in people who are prejudice, critical and judgemental of people that appear different to their standards of what "THEY" think is or should be accepted as normal.

I still find it very difficult to stand up for myself. In my past every time when I stood up for myself people said I was unreasonable, so now I'm just afford to stand up for myself, even when I'm sure I'm not unreasonable. I'm very happy with The Good Doctor. I hope a lot of people learn from it.

    I often times have a problem with producing an answer fairly quickly on things that are not scripted or not a fact about a special interest of mine. Now this is different than infodumping. I can flow with that, and if I get really going on a special interest, troubleshooting/thinking outside the box or I have prescripted parts of the conversation that I can flow quite well also. But for most conversations that are not scripted or infodumping, it can take me a bit to produce answers. I was talking to a dear friend of mine a year ago and it came up in a conversation and she said I often take more time to answer and pause quite a bit more than other people she knows but that is just how I am and she is used to it. For me part of why I take longer is so often for so many things I think in pictures. I have to change those pictures into words. I have to convey that picture in a way the other person understands. So often I wish I could just print out the picture and hand it to them. My memories, they are movies so when I go to describe something I have to describe a movie. One other down side to all of this is I am also diagnosed with Expressive Language Disorder. I know a few on the spectrum in real life who are diagnosed with language disorders. I have at 42 the same language capabilities of someone 13 years 11 months. So for some of this, like describing the movies of my memories I have an additional problem of coming up with some of the words needed. You will often see me gesturing about an image with my hands as I take that image in my head and try and compose a proper descriptive sentence that expresses all or at least most of what I want to. That is also why I prefer to communicate in typed or written language. It allows me time to construct my response and think up the appropriate words. For instance emails will often times take me hours to compose until I feel that they are "just right" but will come across very well. However if you asked me the same things verbally it would not be even close to the same. It would have far less information and be far more broken up. It seems like I am two separate people when you compare my abilities to communicate verbally and written. However that is just the benefit of the time to compose my repsonse. If you asked me to respond to this video verbally it would be three broken sentences. For an idea this reply took me about 2 hours to complete.

      It is very recognizable for me what you write. I think in pictures too, and for me it always takes time to translate other peoples words into pictures, so that i can understand it, and then the other way around again, when I have to put my thoughts into words. Emails also take me a long time. Thank you for your time and effort to respond in such a awesome way to my video. That means a lot to me.

      I would say that for most people in general, it would take much longer than 2 hours to compose a comment as well thought out and interesting as yours. I do identify with being much more adept at the written word than oral communication, though I am not diagnosed with autism. I think we all want to be able to convey our thoughts in the most articulate and understandable way, so whether on the spectrum or not, for many this is the best route to go. I think what the show "The Good Doctor" does is it allows everyone to at least get a sense for something they (I) do not have much experience with and learn much about it. From what I have seen so far, both from watching the show and watching and reading comments from those who can identify closely with it, it does just that. Thank you for your comment and just continue to be amazing and awesome.

      Indeed. I agree with what you are saying. Arianna had such a wonderful response and I find that she can express herself very well. I know many people who are not autistic who write in a very confusing way.

    This is meaningful. I'm a big fan of THE GOOD DOCTOR. (both Korean and American version) Korean version seems to be more about hope/Cheerful/Optimistic. On the other hand, American version seems to be focusing more about realistic.(Not about surgical scenes. I heard that there're some errors which I didn't know anything in this field) I meant we get to know how the society in hospital actually was 'more' than the Korean version. Well, at least in my opinion. I love both versions. It gave me different vibes. Thx for the great video :)

    Remrov...you said that it is very difficult for an Autistic to reach out to make contact with other people. Do you know why that is? Is it a form of shyness? Are you afraid that you may be judged? I am very shy myself. That is why I am asking. ❤️. Your video is excellent at explaining Dr Murphy’s way of thinking! I could never be impatient with an Autistic individual. I do as much as I can to make that individual feel comfortable. It is very disturbing to me, to see neurotypical people being impatient or abusive with Autistic people.

    • @RemrovsWorldofArtandAutism
      @RemrovsWorldofArtandAutism  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you very much. No, it's not just shyness. It's a lot of things together. A big part of it is just not knowing how to reach out to people, or how to make contact -- not knowing how to communicate or socialize. Which of course can make you shy. But shyness is not the most direct cause of it. There are many people who are very impatient with autistic people, which makes everything even more difficult.

    • @cherixbiggs5819
      @cherixbiggs5819 7 лет назад +2

      Remrov's World of Autism I understand exactly what you mean! Thank you! With my shyness, I love animals...and feel more comfortable around animals than people. People are too quick and in a hurry ... Most of the time I do not bother with them. You are absolutely excellent at expressing yourself. I love The Good Doctor. I am learning about Autism...but I have always accepted you and you are absolutely perfect! No need for a “cure.” ❤️❤️ Cheri (I am Rick’s wife; he is very outgoing!)

      Thank you very much for your compliments. I also love animals so much. I always feel safe around them, and I always want to keep them safe. People are indeed very quick and in a hurry, and often people feel a bit fake for example, they ask you how you are doing, but more out of politeness instead of really being interested in how you are doing.

      I think a lot of people still see Autism as a negative thing, and I personally don't agree with that at all.
      It's true that being autistic brings with it a unique set of challenges that we must overcome, but we also see the world differently, we see people differently, we experience pretty much everything differently, and I wouldn't trade the way I experience things for anything.
      As an autistic person myself, the best advice I can give you is to make sure your daughter knows that you love her and that she should never feel bad for being different.
      I am different from other people, but I have a wonderful and supportive family who never made me feel bad for being different.

      My youngest son is on the spectrum. ❤ He's 16 years 5 days of age and right after he took his PSAT, our mailbox became quite full from letters all over inviting him to tour their college/University! He wants to go into biomedical engineering and of course we're supporting him 100%! ❤ I'm going to be losing the use of my legs (sooner than we thought based on my flat line sensory neuropathy shown on my nerve conduction test results) so he keeps telling me to keep my legs going until he can find a fix. Each day he goes on a walk with me and accesses my gait. He insists on going to my specialist appointment and will hand over his observations.
      I've found that those of the spectrum are some of the most caring and loving people! It is my opinion that those on the spectrum are *way* under "used" in society because some people just see ASD as a disability instead of possibly being the only ones potentially holding the answers for so many problems that still need help. Medical, environmental, education, etcetera ❤❤

    Excellent video! I love The Good Doctor and wish they would concentrate storylines more on Sean. I can appreciate Sean because I have a 34 year old son with Fragile-X Syndrome who is severely challenged. Before we knew about Fra-X we were told by doctors he had signs of Autism, but he wasn't Autistic. It took many years before we got a diagnosis. Although my son is Fra-X, he does have some gifts which we cannot explain or understand. For instance, even if he cannot read, he knows the difference between a French DVD and an English DVD. (We are French-Canadians). My son is a great fan of DVD's. If there is a large pile of DVD's on the floor separated from their cases, he can match, without error and without hesitation, the right DVD to the right case, even the home-made handwritten DVDs. I can't explain it. A funny thing about my son, he has a lot of the same quirks as "Rainman" had. For instance, he needs a small table before him to organize his videos when watching TV. He also has to place his slippers just so next to the bed before going to sleep. And he reacts negatively with tantrums at something new or different in his routine. Remrov, I am very impressed with you! Keep up the good work! I think your talking about yourself is very important and helpful for society!

    Thanks for the review. I wondered if you would have the same mono tone cadence like the actor does when he speaks and you do not. The actor sounded like the aliens from Galaxy Quest. I have only seen one episode so it was good to see the clips you used and he was more colorful in his speech. Thanks again and good job. Arnold

      ...my friends would always want me to "tell them a story" when it was finally time to sleep. I would usually relay the latest story I had read, or movie I'd seen, but I was never very good at abridging it, so it came with all the details I could remember. That, plus my naturally monotone voice was rather low for a girl's, and I never actually managed to finish "telling a story" without every other girl in the room falling asleep first, lol!

    I too am a fan of "The Good Doctor". My 19 year old son is on the spectrum. He is very high functioning and very intelligent. I wish he would watch the show. I've recommended it to him, but he hasn't watched it yet. I would love to hear his thoughts about how autism is portrayed on the show. I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts. I too think that the portrayal of Dr. Shaun Murphy is very accurate in many aspects. I loved your comment about it taking more time for autistic people to respond to questions but that their answers are worth the wait. That is very very true for my son. He comes up with the most amazing things. He sees connections between things that others miss. He can be extremely insightful, but it does take his brain more time to process and I think this is because there is just so much information stored in there. I also agree with you that autism is not something that needs to be cured. Thank you for posting your review and thoughts on "The Good Doctor". You are a very well spoken young man.

      Cindy Duncan, did your son start watching yet? My dad tried to get me interested in this show too, for quite some time before I finally did see it, but after the first few episodes, I was hooked!
      I think my main reluctance to watching the show is that I have never been able to stand watching operations and gore - even though I know it's fake, it makes me shudder to look at the very realistic-looking wounds, infections, etc. - but I was also unsure I would be able to relate, as although I am on the spectrum, I am neither a savant, nor do I think in pictures, but rather in language and textures (i.e. Images, sounds and words often translate to me as physical feelings).
      But my dad made it easy for me by assuring me that I wouldn't have to look at the O.R. scenes in order to follow the story, and also took the approach of wanting my feedback on it instead of, "I think this would be really good for you." He finally said, "Let's just watch the pilot episode the next time we hang out, and then if you think it's interesting, you can watch it any time you come over, and I'll put whatever else I'm watching on hold, so we can see it together."
      And aside from the gruesome bits, which I would look away from, the story itself was captivating, and although I couldn't relate to Shaun's genius and the thinking in pictures, I could definitely relate to the social awkwardness and the time it takes to dredge up information to respond to questions, just to name a few things I identified with! It was great, too, to be able to comment on it to my dad, and we had some good conversations come out of it, that I think helped him to understand me better, and we're looking forward to the next season!

    Freddie Highmore (Actor who plays Shawn not sure if I spelled his name right lmao) needs to see this!! I feel like he would greatly appreciate your unique opinion on how he portrays an Autistic Savant person. I was also worried at first that it wouldn't;t be accurate, and that they would use the show to make fun of autistic people. I feel like they do that in some movies in which they portray autistic people. But the Good Doctor is indeed very accurate.

    I adore this show and I loved your video on it (and your adorable bird 🐦❤️!) I'm not autistic myself, but I've had similar social issues thanks to having both ADHD & bipolar disorder, plus a visual impairment which means sometimes I don't notice body language or facial expressions. The idea that I need to be "cured" is a terrible way to view someone, no matter what they have. Like Shaun, I was an outcast, mercilessly mistreated by my peers. Luckily, I found a group of friends who liked me for who I was and accepted my flaws, including one who is autistic, although she's on the higher-functional end, with Asperbergs Syndrome but she still struggled with social cues. She's one of the best friends I've ever had; we've been friends for 17 years, she was even in my wedding & yes she has her hard days, but I'd never, ever want her to be "cured". I genuinely think she just sees the world in a different way, and it's beautiful. She's an excellent writer and a phenomenal cook, plus she makes great drinks as well. For my birthday one year, she made me cupcakes with lavender & rose petals! They were amazing and I'd never think to make cupcakes like that but she did and that's just one tiny example of how unique she is and how grateful I am for it. She actually works as a cook at a cafe that focuses on hiring people who are Autistic. She's the redheaded girl, Andra Moore. ❤️💑 I really think you'll like this video about where she works: www.today.com/video/people-with-autism-find-jobs-and-meaning-at-puzzles-bakery-and-cafe-1370511427706?v=railb
