- Notability has had an update for the brand new year and hence it is time for a brand new tutorial. This is the complete guide on how to use Notability on iPad with a full tutorial and bonus tips and tricks advice! I will even share how I use notability for my Engineering lectures at Imperial College London University!

The tape feature is used for studying. You cover parts of your notes you want to memorize, then touch the tape and it disappears for a second so you can check if you got it right. It's basically for memorization type notes.
The ruler is also useful for things where you're drawing and need things to be proportional. It's not just for straight lines. So if you're sketching out a blueprint of something.
That’s really interesting thanks for pointing that out. I may have to start integrating the tape function myself for my revision 😅 I guess that would make sense for the ruler as well, if you are in need of specific measurements
Wonderful tutorial! I have been using it for a few years for teacher presentation and data collection. Is there a feature that allows you to change your hand writing so it looks typed or more neat?

You can add files from your drive to notability but not sure you can add photos from those drives unfortunately 😅

Can you write with your pencil and then change to the typed?
HI! Does Notability allow you to insert a voice memo next to the words? I study Japanese and I would need, when I take notes, to be able to hear the pronunciation next to individual words or sentences, so as not to always have to look for it on the internet.

How can I add an empty space in the middle of a note? For example, I was writing a synopsis, and then I realized that I needed to add something else to the question, after which the following questions are already coming. I can only highlight everything that comes after the place where I want to add and move below. Maybe there are simpler ways to add records? In Microsoft Word, you can just put the cursor anywhere and add text, everything else will just move down automatically. Thank you in advance for your reply!
If you are using the text function, you can do exactly as you said in MS word however if you are using the pen/ pencil it’s less straightforward. You can either lasso everything down or if you go on page manager and click the 3 dots on the page you want a new one under you can insert a fresh page underneath the current one to add more space below.
@@denizsancar Thank you for the answer. That is, you will not be able to add two or three lines of space in the center of the abstract when using handwriting. It is a pity that the developers did not take into account such a need
Hey!!Can we lock images on Notablity because image starts moving while I try to write smothing or as i touch?
You are not alone that’s super frustrating and annoying Notability haven’t fixed that yet. The only option that I believe is possible is after pasting the image saving the document as a PDF and then reimporting the document and deleting that image, now it will not move if you write over it or lasso anything else

Use the lasso to capture what you want typed and then touch the dashed lasso outline and a set of options will pop up like save etc. choose convert and then text and bingo you’re done.
Hi, how do I move tape? Is that possible? Can I change the colour after I use it?
If you manage to just lasso over the tape you can move it, delete it, copy it and duplicate it but won’t be able to change colour unfortunately 😅
Is the zoom tool still around? Writing and having the box move to the next empty space is such a time saver but I can’t find it anywhere

In the past I was able to import an image right from Google as I was taking notes. For example, while writing my Art History notes, I like to have the art image in the note. I remember there was a + sign in the upper right hand corner of the note. In the new version, I do not see where I am able to do that. Is this feature still available?
Notability has taken out a lot of features in their new update which is very frustrating I can suggest saving the image on google as a photo and then importing it as a photo on your notability document
I am do bummed! Good idea only issue is that I do not know what art the instructor will speak about while I am taking notes…so, I can’t add ahead of time…it was the best feature to be able to do this right while taking notes….
Ahhh that’s a shame, maybe try to take a note of them and come back later
can you airdrop documents to your Mac as a word document?
Only as a PDF currently, hopefully it’s a feature Notability add soon

Thank you, I’m up and running now. This was the clearest video I’ve found. I did have to slow you down to 0.75 speed though (a little too fast) and rewind frequently to catch all you were showing. 😊

Hmmmm that seems like it could be a glitch in Notability, you could try deleting and re-downloading the app but ensure all your work is backed up

How to add more page to a note
I would have liked to see you convert handwritten material into typed
My apologies for not showing this but yes you can convert handwritten material using the lasso and converting into handwritten text, my handwriting is quite messy so it isn’t always accurate for me so i tend not to use it 😅
How do you record your videos so that you screen records you and your iPad screen
I had two seperate cameras, one recording me and then I screen recorded the iPad 😅 I don’t think you can video yourself from your iPad at the same time as screen recording yet

I like to use Text but the cursor goes to far to the left and then I have to hit the space bar several times to get back to whare I am suppose to be
That is a big frustration, the text function is not very user friendly

Does anyone know why I cant add an image from my gallery 😭? I tried changing my settings but nothings working
Could be a bug in Notability, try deleting and re-downloading 😅
When importing a document, in the past there was an option to change your document from a pdf document to a word document so you were able to say edit/update a resume you have saved on your MacBook however now no matter what I try I am unable to edit the pdf document besides like writing next to the words already on the page. Would you mind going into more depth about importing
You can convert pdfs to word docs online I believe if that is the trouble, try typing into google pdf to word doc free 😅
Does anyone notice the size of the highlighter changes dramatically from size 9 to size 10? Very strange.

You can lasso the whole chunk of text and then click convert to text as one of the options 😅

it looks so simple in this tutorial but trying to use it myself im banging my head against the wall. nothing is as simple as it should be. moving stuff with the lasso tool doesn't work, if its on top of something else - it moves everything else underneath it.
The lasso automatically includes everything within it 😅 Notability has had a new update which is a but frustrating but it should be picked up in no time, stay with it
I hope there's a way to downgrade to the old version. this new version is just bloody awful!

I don’t think so unfortunately but I’ve heard Evernote is a good alternative 😅
