Xiaohongshu is also an excellent way to find good chinese food wherever you are! Funnily enough just a few months ago I remember thinking "damn, Xiaohongsu would be a great input source for language practice but I'm not really far enough along to get by with chinese-language input only", now here we are and suddenly there's a lot of bilingual content to ease into it!
Ohhhh so THAT'S why RUclips started shoving xiaohongshu ads into my face a couple of days ago😭😂😂 xiahongshu caught up on what's happening and decided to get even more western users

Are you saying that TikTok users have shattered the Great Firewall of China, which the Communist Party has painstakingly built since 2008? Even China didn't expect that the censorship fortress it erected would be breached by American anti-government protesters.
This is really a historic event. Nothing like this has ever happened on this scale between two countries, especially not between two rival superpowers.
I’m actually not suprised abt XHS being the app they went to. About a month or two ago, TikTok Artists started following XHS art tutorials and showing before and afters, and I think that’s what started the XHS trend right now
thinking about your soft power video. who would’ve thought that communication and connection is what would’ve been able to break the wall instead of something like anime or music. it’s amazing
It hasn’t… the wall between wealthy Chinese gals and wealthy middle class progressive reactionaries has been broken. And now the Chinese governments trying to ban it as they are learning that the US has better workers rights than China (unions, time off etc)
I just love when peaceful cultural exchange happens like this. And sure, we know that the owners of these social media apps don't see us as people, just money to be made. But in cases like this I'll gladly stop thinking about the bad for a minute and just focus on the good that has come of it because honestly that's what the world needs right now. And (late) happy birthday!
You can't have any meaningful exchange, try to exchange your views on Uyghur camps, extermination of Tibet, Philippine islands annexions, persecutions against selected groups within the Chinese society, exchange with Chinese about your high renting prices versus they can't never own a house or apartment or go deep into any meaningful debate, you'll see the "cultural exchange" can only be superficial and serve a narrative, it can never be authentic.
Na this is kind of sad,how Americans can't even sit one single minute without social media. Tiktok got banned in India too because of security reasons and also people addiction to social media and we were fine with it. Americans are actually scrambling to find alternatives.
@ you may be right about using social media for its original intended purpose, to feel more connected to people down the hall in the same dorm as you. This is why I’ve been disconnected from FB since 2015, never had IG or TikTok or whatever. However, using it to connect cross-culturally, with people you would never have a chance to interact with and whose culture is actively screened and filtered from your own by traditional media, government, education and the financial apparatus in order to foster hatred and war is actually super wholesome!
@gomer2813 Ah, that's not what I mean. I'm not trying to say that the US government has ulterior motives. I'm not even sure where I stand when it comes to the Tiktok ban. I just think it's good when people of different cultures get to interact like that.
The app got popular with people discussing protests against the Chinese government back in the 2010s. Then the accounts all got banned and it’s now upper middle class Chinese Instagram… These people are seemingly incredibly Han supremacist, searched their views on the Henan (ethnically Han) and it’s so disappointing. Non Han is even worse.

Not gonna lie, the vibe between Americans and Chinese people on rednote is so wholesome and sweet! It makes me wanna join in, tho…i don’t know if i should or not because of safety concerns. Plus, i have all the socials i need. RUclips, Instagram, tumblr, Pinterest, I’m good. Still, this gives me hope that we can all just vibe with one another, instead of throwing pointless bigotry and racism at each other. Good job my fellow Americans, you did something good…I’m proud.
