    To clarify, I love this Yamaha aside from this hard top tower. Unfortunately I am not very mechanical in nature. So personally, I would not want to deal with the possibility of sucking things up in bigger lakes. Tough to pass on Yamahas design though.

      I have never had anything in my grates over 8 years of ownership. Never had to use the cleanouts at all, and Texas/Oklahoma lakes are not necessarily pristine. Also, you don't need to be mechanical to yank something out of the holes.

    I have had an outboard, stern drive, and yamaha jet boat, and I have spent MUCH more time unwinding things from my props and dealing with skeg or prop strikes with submerged materials than I have cleaning out the jet pumps. And, clearing the jets can be cleaned from the swim platform. The stern drive always required a swim and on a few occasions requiree a skeg and/or prop repair or replacement. So, the reality is very different than what you've portrayed here.

      Interesting. Maybe i am just in some dirty water lakes with trees limbs and sometimes trash. I haven't ever ran into prop issues or had anything tangled. You make some pretty good points. Maybe the decision not to buy a jet boat needs to mention a little bit more of what body of water you will be on. Sounds easy enough to clean the jet pumps.

      I’m on my third year in a lake that regularly floods and has a ton of debris for a week after the flooding. I haven’t had any issues at all with sucking anything up. When I bought the boat in Miami on the test drive I sucked up a Cheetos bag and that was the one and only time I had an issue lol. This review makes it seem like it’s an every day occurrence which isn’t true in my experience.

    I have the 275 sdx bought it July of 2023. I put 35 hrs on it last season. I had to use the clean out ports once, my buddy who’s well is right next to mine decided to open my boat up and start it. I get there and I see smoke. Ran over to it and turned it off. All the seaweed in my well
    Was generously sucked into my intake. I spent the next 15 mins cleaning out about 15 pounds of seaweed. Ran like a champ after that. I’ve wake boarded behind it. No issues with the tower and never sucked anything up in open water.

    These boats are the best all around boats. I have a SX195 and we love it. No Yamaha Jet Boat is a true surf boat. No matter what Yamaha does to it with ballast add-ons. For us the small 195 is great for the ICW, rivers and lakes in NC. This is my second boat and the third will be another Yamaha. The minimal maintenance, and reliability of Yamaha is a big plus. Like you said for the money this boat is great.

    I live on lake Conroe just north of Houston Texas and have owned Yamahas for years and currently own the wake surf edition 2021 212SD and never had an issue or sucked anything up. They are the most reliable boat you can buy, they make a great wave and there’s not any jet spray with the jet wash deflector and shock ball. Can be beached easily without worrying about a prop. Plus they get on plane nearly instantly. Can operate in 8 inches of water. Rope has never hit the tower wakeboarding and btw you don’t attach a tube to the wakeboard tower, you attached to the tube point near the swim deck.

    When had a AR 230 for 10 years, loved it, clean lake Possum Kingdom TX. Purchased for 21500, sold for 19500 ten years later. I had to cut a rope 2-3 times. A simple razor blade no issues. Knowing you have no prop to bag up or worry about around kids is huge. So I fully disagree. The 275 is the top of the line. And from a reliability standpoint Yamaha is on top, and best selling. The stern area at the water level is unmatched.

    I have owned a Yamaha for 4 years in Missouri. Been from far north lakes to far south at table rock. Even shortly after times of flooding where there was a lot of debris in the water. I have never sucked up one thing in my jets in 4 years. The downfall for me is the jet wash when tubing with kids. That will likely be the reason I don’t buy another one. We have not had one issue with ours and I’ll say the maintenance is super easy. They are great all around boats at a good price. We have had tons of fun surfing and boating in general. The only reason I’d steer someone away from them is the jet wash and engine noise.

    I currently own a 2021 Yamaha 212XE that we purchased new in January of last year. We have just over 80 hours on it, and it has been 100% reliable. We have over 30 trips to the lake on the log book, and I’ve had to open the clean out ports to clear debris twice. Both times took less than 2 minutes. Tubing, forget it. It’s like riding a motorcycle without a helmet in a rain storm at 55 mph. The jet’s spray water in your face at a 65” rope length. Wakeboarding behind the boat is decent, but riding centered between the wakes is pretty turbulent even at 65”. I spend most of the time on the outside of the wake, and jump over the center as much as possible. I never just cruise centered behind the boat. Wake surfing is just sort of okay. There’s not very much push with just factory ballast, and I have to pump and work really hard to stay in the pocket. I absolutely hate the look of swim platform ballast bags, but they make all the difference in the world. I’d rate it about 7.5 out of 10 for wakeboarding, but it’s not going to be pro level quality wakes for tricks. As far as surfing, I’d say it’s better than nothing, and better than trying to make a non ballasted boat surfable, but anyone who’s surfed behind a Mastercraft or Supra, will be disappointed. Water sports isn’t my primary reason for boating though. As far as enjoying time on the lake, and swimming off the swim platform, I’ve loved every minute with my Yamaha.

    Too much emphasis on water sports.
    The 275 series (and 252s) are positioned as social entertainment, day boats, with the opportunity for water sports too.
    But they are primarily for social entertainment and a day out on the water.

    I’m from Kansas City and frequent LOTO’s often as I have a couple family members who have lake houses down there. I’m confused about why jet boats would suck up more things than waverunners. I see 1k’s of waverunners all over LOTO’s every weekend and in my 25 years of riding them I can count on 1 hand how many times we’ve sucked something up in a jet.
    That being said I’ve wrapped anchor and buoy lines around my I/O that had been abandoned in the lake. My question is why you think this boat will suck up more trash than the average waverunner? Thanks.

    • @KbandsTraining
      @KbandsTraining  2 года назад

      Hey Cole good question. I can only speak from experience. I personally haven’t had any prop issues. All of the boaters I have been around over the past 30 years have not either. However, I have 3 friends that have jet boats and have had several occasions where they have had to clear some kind of debris. I’m not super mechanical so for me I would not want to be in a position where I would have to do that compared to never having a prop issue. When boat shopping at boat shows over the years the dealers, not selling jet boats, always seem to mention the same thing. They maybe are just trying to make a sale, but that’s how I came to my conclusion. Thanks for watching 👍

      Spent many weekends on them and maybe 20-30% of the time had to blow something funky out after running through some nasty water. I mentioned some other items as well. That particular tower in that boat seemed to be a little bit of a bummer for towing angles due to the tow point being under the tower. Also short ropes for tubing with little kids it is pretty rough back there with the jets. If your looking for a good ramp for watersports its hard to smooth out the wake on jet boats as well.
      Really not a hater. I think those boats are sweet, however, there are some downsides to them just as there is for all boats.

    I'm sure the host is well intentioned but the negative claims about jet drives is way overblown. I've had a Yamaha AR195 for 3 years with over 100 hrs on the motor and have had to clear the pump exactly 2 times.. This process takes literally seconds to minutes and you're back up and running in no time. A prop drive has it's advantages and disadvantages,.just like a jet drive, but yamaha's clean out ports take a lot of the hassle out of what is a common complaint with jets. Yamaha's are not perfect boats, but they are reliable and extremely affordable for families who want to just get out and have fun on the water. If you are a hardcore wake sports enthusiast or speed freak, it's not the boat for you, but if you want reliable, affordable, fun on the water, mildly sporty performance. They fit the bill for many families.

      I agree with pretty much everything you said. I’ve been on several of the newer Yamaha‘s and they really have an amazing finish. Fun for the family. If you’re into hard-core water sports though, unfortunately there are some negatives with a jet drive. But I do agree, Yamaha boats are awfully fancy. I love the ones at the boat show. However, I did not like the hardtop that I mentioned in the video. It seemed awfully fancy, but It lacked the ability to cut all the way out beside the boat. It looked as though the rope would hit the tower. I’m happy to hear that you have not had any problems sucking up any debris. I have a couple friends that have Yamaha boats and have run into some issues. That’s what I based my opinion on. At the price though, Yamaha boats are amazing. For a boater that wants to get out there with their family, I don’t know that you’ll find a better price point boat with all the options. Thanks for your comments. Have a great day.

      I said In the video I liked the boat a lot. Did you listen to the entire video. Couple things that I didn’t like was the hard top tow point, jet boat issues in dirty lakes, and the wash when pulling super young tubers. Those things for me was a deal breaker. When my kids are older the wash may not be an issue any longer. If I went out in cleaner lakes the jet element wouldn’t bother me at all. The toe point on that hard top seemed to be problematic when cutting out super wide though. If you didn’t have this tower I would imagine that issue would be fixed. Overall though I love the interior layout of this boat.

      Guy is nuts! I live on old hickory lake in Tennessee and would say it is filled with debris and I rarely get anything stuck in my pumps. I've had a ar190 and now a ar210. Anything I run over usually spits it right out. Only one time I had to clean out my ski rope out of the pump cause I was a dummy and didn't shut down the engine when I was pulling the rope in. For lakes that can get shallow fast these things are awesome! Draft is like 8 inches on plane so I can go a lot of areas without worry of hitting anything where I see all the wake boats and stern drive's have to stay away from.

    Not sure how you can give a credible review when you've never owned a jet boat. I own a 2019 242x and run on lakes with debris all the time. When things get sucked up, 98% of the time the impellers chew through debris and you never even know you hit any. 1% of the time something gets stuck in the impeller intake temporarily and simply going full throttle is sufficient to chew up whatever is stuck and spit it out. 1% of the time something gets stuck that requires a lot of effort to extract. That being said, if you drive over a ski rope or any other kind of thick line yes, you are likely going to have to limp the boat back to the ramp and will spend a lot of time clearing the impeller shaft. In fact, backing up over a ski rope was the only time in 2 years that I had to take the boat out of the water to clear the blockage. That happened within 2 weeks of buying the boat and I've never made that mistake again. There are drawbacks to jet boats for sure, but getting the impeller ports clogged up is really not one of them. I've owned propeller driven boats and have had 10% of the issues with my Yamaha that I had with my other ski boats. As to surfing, my 20 yo and 14 yo children surf ropeless with only stock ballast with no problem, but a Yamaha will never throw a wake like a supra, malibu or nautique.

      Great to hear you can surf behind it well. I've spent a lot of time on them and really like them as i said in the video. For me personally the specific model i was referring to had a hard top i wasn't a super big fan of as well. For me the jet portion of sucking things up in dirty lakes has been a bit of an issue for some friends that have them. That's where my point of view came from. I personally haven't ran into issues with a prop.

  • @randallswallow3914
    @randallswallow3914 2 года назад

    Stop being a hater.... These boats have there place just like others. I've owned two, a ar190 and my present boat a 212 limited S. I've also had a V-drive and a stern drive. You would lead people to believe that the yamaha would be sucking up debris left and right. That's just not the case.... Well unless your lakes are so polluted that stuff is floating everywhere and if that the case I'm not sure why your even out in them. Don't get me wrong, I've sucked up my tow rope and seaweed, that sucked ( no pun intended), it took me a little while but I never had to get into the water and it was much easier to clear a fouled line then a fouled prop. Compared to my old mastercraft V-drive, what a nightmare clearing that fouled prop. Oh, I hope you can hold your breath for a while because that's the only way your going to get under that V-drive or direct drive boat and get it running again. Yamaha boats serve a great purpose and have many strengths, Here in NC water levels can vary dramatically depending on water fall and such. So the yamaha having such a low draft to float the boat comes into play. One of the biggest and best examples came into play while we were in the AR190. We took a trip out of Miami over to Bimini, We were cruising the waters around the island and rain up onto a shoal, mainly consisting of soft seaweed and other vegetation. Luckily I killed the engine before getting in to deep. We had to lighten the load in the boat ( get everyone out) and push it to deeper water. OMG, if we were in a direct drive we would have been screwed. Who knows how long were would have been there. The strength of the Yamaha are many but the draft is amazing. With both of the yamaha's I've owned I only needed inches to float my boat. Again the yamaha has it place. Now I'd be the first to admit my favorite boat was the Mastercraft V-drive and if water level wasn't an issue that's what I'd be in right now. Understand, sucking up debris in the Yamaha really isn't any more a problem then the direct drives and V-drives fouling there props. But if the yamaha does pick up debris it is much easier and quicker to clear. One of the other strong suits of the yamaha is it's swim platform and how well it works with families and children. This can't be underestimated, Oh, did I mention noswimming

    The fit and finish on these boats is atrocious. Yamaha makes a great powertrain and puts it in a cheap boat. Thin Fiberglass, thin gelcoat, cheap hardware, you name it. And they don't make as good a wave as even a forward facing sterndrive. That being said, your worry about sucking things up in the impeller is probably overblown. unless you live on a nasty lake, most people aren't sucking things up very often
