  • The Google Pixel 7a is the cheapest among the Pixel 7 series, therefore I decided to buy it and check whether the Tensor G2 chip inside does well like the Pixel 7 Pro.
Among many aspects of the Google Pixel 7a that I covered in this video, I mostly praised how good the performance is, talked about it's mid battery life and a 6.5/10 camera quality.
After a thorough review of the phone, I would say that if you can get a Pixel 7/7 pro then go for it.

    Concepts covered:
First time using it, I noticed it booting extremely fast, from my experience I can say even slightly faster than the pixel 7 pro. They both have a Tensor G2 chip, however this one doesn’t have as much premium features and higher hardware specs, which makes it use lesser resources resulting in quicker performance.
Speaking of performance, out of the box the Pixel 7a display is set as 60hz as the default refresh rate instead of 90hz, which is unnoticeable at first because it gives this fast responsive screen and the haptics complements the overall experience. Tho the haptics are not as great as the higher end models but decent to say the least. What an indecent bit to me though are these bezels.
I mean they are annoyingly thicker. And while using a case is super comfortable, the bezels become too noticeable. They could have been made thinner. Now let’s see how the cameras perform.
    Camera | 📷 |
    We have 2 rear cameras,
    - 64MP main camera. Which is impressive nonetheless. However, it doesn’t perform well in low light conditions. It also doesn’t have a macro lens, but you can still get nice close-up shots
    - 13MP Ultra-Wide camera. It’s wider than the pixel 7 pro and the pixel 6 pro, same goes with the 13MPselfie camera.
    - Portrait. You get 1x and 2x zoom portrait choices. Which both look awesome.
    - Night Sight (Night Mode).
    - no cinematic mode for video. There’s a normal video recording, which can record FHD and 4K both up to 60fps frame rate. There’s also pan, slow motion and timelapse modes.
As you can see the cameras here are not as great as flagships but they are still very good.
    What I like | ✅ |
The first thing that I appreciate the most here is how good it is in cooling. The heating issue has significantly dropped with the Tensor G2 processor upgrade compared with how it was with Pixel 6 Pro. And because of that, the battery life is way better as well. I get a full day on a full charge.
Another thing is the audio, it’s super crispy and clear. A phone this small you wouldn’t expect that much clarity and loudness in its speakers. But that’s not the case with the Pixel 7a.
The build quality of the phone looks and feels amazing. Even though the back is plastic, the frame is metal and it is still very compact and comfortable to hold. It is 6.1 inches flat screen display. Not 4K but FHD which is quite enough for a screen this size. Along with IP67 water/dust resistance, instead of IP68 that is in the Pixel 7/7Pro.
Always on display also looks cool on this screen by the way. Now let’s talk on the not so cool things about the phone.
    What I don’t like | ❌ |
So, the brightness can go up to 500 nits with the slider, and up to 1,000 nits under direct sunlight. However, when it catches heat, the battery drains up quicker.
Second is the bezels. For obvious reasons.
And a slightly smaller fingerprint reader. I think most of us prefer a larger fingerprint scanner, but this one is pretty fast and reliable. Its just small.
