I used to live in a house near some active tracks and i loved watching the trains go by with all their different artwork. To me graffiti is the purest form of art in the modern day. There's no money it, and barely any recognition. It's actually dangerous to be recognized as an artist. That makes the main reason behind doing graffiti nothing more than the desire and impulse to create something beautiful and send it out into the world.
While that is beautiful, I'm not particularly fond of that sentiment. People often use it to devalue the work of highly paid artists, especially in the music industry, as they call them "sell outs" simply by making it big. When you make a lot of money with any other job people congratulate you at being good at your work, but artists supposedly aren't allowed to make a living lest they sacrifice their artistic integrity

I'm a-ok with graffiti (legal or otherwise) when it's being used for artistic expression. When it's just an illegible word copied in white paint, though, it stops being an expression of anything genuine. Be it weird faces, amateurish imagery, or elaborate scripts, it doesn't have to be a masterpiece, it just has to be original.
graffiti is a symptom of brutalism. like cough and runny nose and feeling like shit are symptoms of a disease. which is what brutalism is, a disease of architecture.
That's a pretty good observation. The only thing I'd add is that brutalism isn't inherently brutal, that's just how capitalist society has manifested it. Brutalism (derived from the French for raw concrete "beton brut") is bringing ought the potential of concrete as a material to serve a purpose. This purpose has unfortunately usually been to produce cheap buildings and create an oppressive atmosphere

As a shop owner in a small town, I absolutely hate people who do graffiti because they vandalize my shop almost every week. It is very expensive to remove and I need to because it is ugly and profane and I’m struggling financially.
i get why you would and you have every right to be mad at the people who vandalize your shop but try to keep an open mind and not disparage all who do graffiti. not all of us write on private property
The point will vary from person to person, and this has changed over time. In the 80s there was no way someone would think they could make a living from this. But some points have remained there from the very start. Its easy to feel like a failure, with goals and expectations of successfully financial people being held up as being "the right" ones. Graffiti can kinda be like flipping the middle finger to that idea and saying, "hey I AM A SUCCESS, just not in the way you deem success", your kinda saying I will choose and determine my own idea of success, to some it is creating a good panel that runs and getting flicks, others a good trackside piece, others getting payed all over the world to paint walls...
Dude I saw one of your stickers while out for a walk yesterday! I've said it before but I'll say it again, graffiti helps bring life to the city and suburbs. It turns depressing, grey industrial areas into a sea of colours and shapes. Also buffing graffiti at skate parks has got to be the dumbest thing I still see happening. Now to get some lunch at a Thai Restaurant.
If it looks like garbage, it will attract garbage, and let’s be honest, writing a bunch of letters on top of letters on top of letters, really doesn’t look good. It looks like a garbage dump.
It's so funny bcz, i have a friend who does it illegally and he keeps saying " you should try it illegally 1 time " and honestly, graffiti is his lifestyle. For me it's some kind of hobby and therapy. I always loved it when i was little, but from what i see alot of people are literally addicted bc of the adrenaline and rush it gives. I do it once or twice every 2 months but looking at him he's almost at every part in Amsterdam which is cool, but people need to realize there are different writers and graffiti artists out there. I do it for fun, and alot of people do it for the rush and adrenaline. But at the end people need to realize we're all some kind of big family even if some of them do it illegally or legally.
There are also people who get paid to do legal murals for businesses but under a pseudonym still conduct in the every day life of illegal graffiti *u’d b surprised* 💯💪🏽☮️🎨💜
I got some varnish to cover my marker tags so they can’t get buffed easy. I don’t have any beef with other writers and I probably never will but the graffiti cleanup squad can eat one lol. Big fond of my local Thai restaurant lol
Im gonna sound kinda weird but is there an anime about graffiti??? I think theres so much depth to the community(or communities?) that it would be super neat to see it adapted into animation.
I was thinking about this for Emcees too. Live shows will almost never be taken over fully by AI. Graffiti will survive because it is a public performance. So maybe pubic performing will be the only thing AI doesn't take over.
@@emceeunderdogrising yeah hopefully, although just thought someone might make a throw up or tag design with ai and use it to get up. That would be whack
I'm not going to go in to detail right now but Personally I'm addicted to it my graffiti isn't just vandalism anymore it's art. it's hard to quit when you grew up doing it and studied it. there are a lot of reasons I do it I want respect recognition etc. Let's just say it's a hobby of mine😂
A simple analogy is looking at tagging like a dog pissing on everything. You want to get up more than your own crew members and rivals. Bombing missions are like walking the dog. The dog pisses on everything, just like a tagger bombs any available surface.
honestly i have a lot of reasons on why i do graffiti. some of those reasons are that my life gets boring sometimes and i just need some fun and adrenaline in it. sometimes i do it to clear my mind, i let my emotions out through graffiti. but awesome vid thai restaurant. 🔥

There are also people who get paid to do legal murals for businesses but under a pseudonym still conduct in the every day life of illegal graffiti *u’d b surprised* 💯💪🏽☮️🎨💜
oh wow
I got some varnish to cover my marker tags so they can’t get buffed easy. I don’t have any beef with other writers and I probably never will but the graffiti cleanup squad can eat one lol. Big fond of my local Thai restaurant lol
ooooo mint!! that’s a good as idea
Im gonna sound kinda weird but is there an anime about graffiti??? I think theres so much depth to the community(or communities?) that it would be super neat to see it adapted into animation.
there might be man
Graffiti is gonna be the last art form that won’t be completely fucked by Ai
true as !
Let's just say it's a hobby of mine😂
yeah man
Living in a city with rich architecture, there's nothing that warms my heart more than seeing pointless tags on 200-year-old buildings.
:)
I grew out of it, I have adhd. I only did it on walls that already had grafitti on them.
i feel you man
For me it’s kinda an escape from reality.
Thai restaurant btw
man thank you heaps! hope you have a great xmas and new year!
@@youfosignhere thanks! You too man!
You know what, i work in a bakery and my boss accuarly likes it when the alley next to the building gets hit. He gave me premistion to make a piece
oh wow! nice!!
I used to do it because I like the way it looks.
true true

Hey I’m back. Dope vid btw, and my parents are probably getting me some grog markers for Christmas!
man thank you heaps! hope you have a great xmas and new year!
True graffiti is art
indeeed!
It's such a pretentious way to look at it. Tagging is graffiti. The first graffiti writer did nothing but tag. Stop gatekeeping graff culture.
Eyesores, every bit of it .
99% of illegal graffiti looks terrible, it’s an eye sore, am I wrong here?
ehh, thanks for watching
Yes. Or you live in an area that sucks ass. I see dope illegals all day.
Couldn’t have said it better! I watch Resk, Wekman, exe. Daily because it helps me fall asleep and give me something to do!
Great to hear! thank you for watching bro!
A simple analogy is looking at tagging like a dog pissing on everything. You want to get up more than your own crew members and rivals. Bombing missions are like walking the dog. The dog pisses on everything, just like a tagger bombs any available surface.
Youfo ur awesome🙏💯 Ur videos are the best and always super chill to watch. Thai Resturant🙏🙏
man thank you heaps! hope you have a great xmas and new year!

Thai Restaurant? Ok that's a bit confusing. But again a very informative video which I really appreciate
very random indeed ;)
honestly i have a lot of reasons on why i do graffiti. some of those reasons are that my life gets boring sometimes and i just need some fun and adrenaline in it. sometimes i do it to clear my mind, i let my emotions out through graffiti. but awesome vid thai restaurant. 🔥
i feel you man, painting is becoming to be a bit part of my life now!
thank you heaps man
Every time I walk out the house I always grab 2-3 markers and have them in my pocket at times and every Time I walk ou the house.

Graffiti may be incredibly ugly and unsightly, but this video is certainly an interesting take on the problem. I now see it in a new light.
