thank you. I think RUclips permits the narrative to be visually enhanced & I preferred this to the audio only option…
In all honesty, I’m not quite sure how to move forward with this “channel”. I only ever wanted to release the one video about the Odysseus - mainly because nobody else had and I would have wanted to engorge myself on such content prior to buying / owning mine - but I have since made a second video about an unfortunate experience. What next ? Still having a think about it but don’t just want to release videos willy nilly…

@@watchenthusiastlondon Honestly I would really value a video detailing how to get to a place in your life where you can make these types of purchases responsibly. I just purchased a Grand Seiko Hi-Beat GMT, and while I totally adore it, it represents about 10% of my annual income; it's hard to imagine getting to a place in my life or career where I could ever imagine being able to even inquire about a watch as incredible as the Odysseus. Any tips and tricks on time management, self-optimization, lifestyle habits and How to Succeed in Business (Without Really Trying)? Thank you sir, love your content so I subscribed!

when you said "it's a bit daft to be this excited at my age"...I had to reflect. I just got my first dream watch - albeit at a much different place in the hierarchy (Breitling Classic AVI) - I'm 38 and I couldn't sleep the night before I picked it up. It was Christmas in 1992 all over again. I wasn't self-conscious about it, I was happy that anything could make me feel like that again. It's important. cultivate that feeling whenever you can, no matter your age or gender or circumstances or whatever it is.
I appreciate your channel because you seem like a very grounded dude with a real interest in high horology. A lot of high-end collectors seem utterly dispassionate and treat the hobby like a job, or the watches themselves purely as investments. It makes me bitter that I'll never as rich as them, because in a sense the experience is wasted on them. that I feel so much more for my dinky little Breitling than they do for their fifteenth hype-beast Royal Oak iteration is very hard to grapple with. You seem like you really appreciate these things. there's no shame in that.

I simply never felt bored of listening because all the points brought was highly relevant for this watch. Sorry to know the London boutique but I beleive after seeing this review they ought to make you in short list for any Lange requested. Great review. Enjoy your watch....

Hope we get to see more episodes. Sorry you had to go through that nightmare service experience, but you really had tale that could have been dull, but you made it into a pretty gripping whodunit! Isn’t it funny how compelling timepieces can be to us and at different times ? It’s not always a constant feeling but instead it changes shape. From one watch to the next.
Whilst I love all my watches, I am drawn to some more than others, at different times, and often because I (re)discover / (re) appreciate things about them… Hopefully that doesn’t sound completely bonkers and you will be able to relate. Either way, enjoy !

Another thorough and enjoyable review, from purchase to personal wearing experience. The fact that you are an owner rather than a reviewer talking about a borrowed timepiece makes it all the better. It was interesting to hear you comment on the wearing experience of the stainless steel model, simply because of its weight. I was lucky enough to attend a Rolex event recently, where the Rolex sales manager explained how long it had taken the manufacture to perfect the fluted bezel of its new platinum day-date. When the watch was passed around for inspection, the only thing anyone mentioned was how heavy and substantial it was; sometimes heft trumps horology! Looking forward to more reviews on your other watches. 😊

    • @watchenthusiastlondon
      @watchenthusiastlondon  2 года назад

Thank you. And yes, heft on the wrist can play a key part in the wearers enjoyment. Whilst I don’t want an overly heavy watch on my wrist, I still tend to prefer stainless steel to their titanium counterparts.

I know it got some negative comments when it was first released, but it really is a distinctive and nice looking watch. As far as I'm concerned, A. Lang & Sohne makes better watches than any of the holy trinity. I don't know if I'll ever be able to own one, but I certainly appreciate seeing videos of them.

I have to say I love your channel! Your narration is impeccable and to a higher standard than pretty much all other channels. I assume you do some voice over work?
In regards to waiting lists and not being able to purchase, unfortunately that’s the nature of haute luxury. Try to go into Hermes, Goyard, Chanel etc and try to buy a bag on the spot. Or a Ferrari for that matter.
Sadly luxury is often confused for convenience however I’m really glad you’ve got the watch now and that you’re enjoying it! I’m really looking forward to all your forthcoming videos and I hope you wear the Odysseus in good health!

Great video and really enjoyed it. I own the the white gold version which I love but it does have a drawback in my humble opinion. Given the heft of white gold I feel its not balanced on my wrist and could really use a folding clasp. When wearing my Rolex watches on the Oysterflex they feel balanced. That being said on a recent Zoom with the folks from Lange the folding clasp will soon be available. Just ordered my 4th Lange and counting days until its arrival. I ordered the platinum double split 1815 and told it will be here in Jan. Keep up the great videos and enjoy your Odysseus.

@@watchenthusiastlondon I am not sure they did but can assume I am not only person to make the suggestion. 1 of the only things that bother me about Lange( this is minor and I man in LOVE with brand) is insisting on pin buckle straps on extremely heavy pieces. For example I own the Datograph perpetual and Zeitwerk striking time. Both pieces I requested they come with a folding clasp in matching metals and they always quickly agreed at no extra cost. I did have the pleasure to have diner with the CEO recently and very politely mentioned this. Later in that diner, a few glasses of winer later, I said I would love to see the Odysseus with high complications ( chrono with GMT perhaps). Doubt my suggestion will go very far but I bet we do see some complications soon added to the Odysseus. Look forward to next video .

I'd love to see them make an Odysseus with bracelet all in yellow gold or white gold. Great review!

Would an Odysseus in yellow gold still qualify for being ‘sporty elegant’ ? 🧐

      @@watchenthusiastlondon ...
i think yes. Rolex sport watches come in yellow gold and they are still considered sport watches. Same with some Omega models.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Keep them coming, I'm loving the format of these videos. So original and engrossing, watching them is like listening to an engrossing novel on audio book. I'm subbed, and eagerly await the next one ⌚

I'm in agreeance with other comments. Your down to earth approach to your relationship with your watches translates very well. May I suggest a video on your top 5 watches with the story behind each one?

I was very attracted to it when I first saw a review on YT. When I inquired about a purchase, the Miami store informed me that a $26K+ purchase was necessary to be waitlisted. My friend who runs a store that sells AL&S in a Las Vegas hotel informed me that a purchase history of over $400K is now a requirement, as only collectors are considered. This store had never seen one.

Oh, you also own a Lange 1?! That's my grail watch. 🙂 Maybe you could also do a video regarding this watch?

Thanks for the content! I found your review to be articulate and well scripted (which I therefore found enjoyable) and credible (which I therefore found informative).
Have subscribed and looking forward to your future vidoes.

I enjoyed this video. I look forward to hearing more stories about different watches from you, or even a general look at your collection!
I personally don’t like the Odysseus. I don’t exactly know why, but I’ve thought about it many times. However, this is perfectly fine, because I don’t think I am in a position to get one in either case. I’m a big Lange fan, but am yet to dive into high horology in general. While monetarily, it is a big ask, I’m not sure if im attracted to anything in particular to spend such a high amount on (yet). Though if im being completely honest, if their outsize dates had a 0 on the left rather than a blank and a tad higher WR on their dress watches, I would absolutely buy a Saxonia moon phase or Lange 1 in a heartbeat ! (I know im nitpicking, but at this price point, its the least I can do). I also really like the salmon dial Pateks- 5320-G and the 5270-P, but I know I simply can’t walk in and just buy one. I really like FPJ as well, especially their now discontinued salmon dial souverains. Do you like Any salmon dials? Pity that other watch makers don’t make them.

      Thank you 🙏
A bit like you, I used to think that the Lange grand date might benefit from having a 0 on display in the date window on the left on the single digit days of the month, however I’ve now gone completely the other way and instead really appreciate the fact that there isn’t one and it’s a blank window instead. It’s a little quirky and I like that.
Personally, whilst I do like the way some salmon dials look (especially the Patek’s you mention), I’m not convinced that I will ever buy one for myself - mainly because I don’t know when I’d ever wear one. As my wife might say “it’s not a starter colour”! But I agree that they can look stunning…

I had a very similar experience when I visited the Lange boutique in NYC about a year ago. I inquired about the stainless steel Odysseus, was shown the white gold watch and politely told that the waiting list was limited to existing customers. If only I’d purchased two other Lange watches …
