- In this video I give a full in depth tour of the 1960 Chevrolet Impala SS. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.
This was one of the best cars I ever owned. It was the first car I owned and I purchased it in 1962 for $1600. Mine was a yellow convertible with a 283 and white wall tires. Lots of great memories.
after reading the comments I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks it would look alot better with original wheels
I'm a huge fan of the '60 Impala- just plain gorgeous
I bought this car and the very first thing i did was change out the wheels. It now rides on Coy C5 gunmetals...18" and 20". The seller didn't bother telling me that the air ride system had tons of leaks, the AC didn't blow cold at all and the differential leaked like a sieve. All of that is fixed now and the car is a true joy to drive.
7:52 An old Chevy + a Rolling Stones song = THE PINNACLE OF AWESOMENESS!!!
What Rolling Stones song is that?
+Kevin Lofur Gimmie Shelter
BigDannyK That song is amazing

I don't care if people think the wheels are ugly, I think it's awesome! Great vid as always Kyle!
What a stunning car, I would give the earth to drive that today, WOW!
My Dad owner a Chevrolet dealership when I was a kid and I loved those cars. This 1960 Impala was the beginning of the best decade for Chevrolet producing any type of vehicle a person could want, whether it be a sexy 2 seat sports car with a fiberglass body (Corvette) a "family" muscle car (Camaro) a grandma grocery getter or a first car (Nova or a Corvair) a family car (Impala & station wagon version) a truck for the farmer (Cheyenne) or a grain truck or bus (Apache) Chevrolet had it.
The "X-Body" full-size Chevy from 1958 to 1964 represented a huge step forward in handling over the '55-'56-'57 Chevys and introduced the larger displacement 348/409 engines with dual-quads or 3-deuces to rock our world. I grew up in a Chevrolet dealership where my father was Sales Manager from 1960 to the mid-70's. I worked there in the summers detailing and delivering cars. Thanks for the memories!
That brings back memories, I had a 1960 Chevy Bel-Air back in the day.
really nice roomy car and well made.
My first car, I got when I was out school. Was a 1960 chevrolet convertible, With a 348 engine. with 3-2 barrel carburetors. and a 4- speed Transmission. It was red, with white convertible top.
hope you kept it.
Would love to have that car today!
THE MOST GREATEST CAR REVIEWER IN THE WORLD
i dont usually like different rims on older vehicles but these actually look pretty damn good on here and its a VERY nice car. my grandparents have the new impala its weird seeing how much it has evolved
My dad had a 60 Chev. His was a Bel Air 2-door sedan, so it wasn't as fancy as this one, but it was the same basic car. It was so low and the rear overhang was so long it would bottom out on steep hills. I remember the enormous trunk. Trunk size was a big deal in the 60s. The glovebox coasters were useless because a normal size cup wouldn't fit under the dash overhang. Gas station attendants hated the hidden gas cap because they'd cut their fingers pulling the license plate down.
Yeah, A&W Root Beer mug was too tall to fit and soda in cans hadn't been invented yet!
No bettter color for the early 60's car's and truck's than Red & White. totally feeling this.. great vid as usual
61 Is The 1st Year Of SS
I visited a used car lot today and saw a 1978 Chevy Impala Coupe. Firing up and listening to the sound of the 305 cu in V8 was an eargasmic experience. =D
very nice car, especially the interior !!
Quite possibly the best looking full size Chevy ever made.
Agreeed!!!
I also agree!!!!!!!
This will be my dream vehicle for real bro.
Damn i love this car! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Super Nice Car! I am restoring one right now. It is far off from us. Yors car is the inspiration I need after working on mine. I've been posting progress. I dont know if it will ever get done. Thank you for posting!!
Love those rims...yes car great. Example of old school.
First year of impala ss is 1961,but that is one sweet 1960 2 dr ht
White walls would've looked soooooooo much better on that car
Gotta love the sound of a carburated V8!
beautiful car but WRONG wheels, wrong wheels
Too right, it needs solid chromes.
+Bjork Vlogdok No, it needs white walls and hubcaps. You damn hipsters really need to stop fucking up classics!
The Ying & The Yang Simply beautiful
Yeah those are brand-new wheels on a classic car just makes it look like a new car made to look like a classic car
Dam straight! I smell tacos!
Beautiful car, my dad had one as a work car, when I was a kid.
This car is gorgeous. Period.
One of My Favorites.
Just beautiful.
Wish it was mine.
I looked it up and it was 1961 that the SS Impala was introduced. So therefore this car cannot be a SS, if what I read was true.
YOUR RIGHT ON THAT
You're right! '61 was the first year for the Super Sport! There's no SS badging on this car so where they got the idea that it's a Super Sport is a mystery!
THIS IS SO WEIRD.
The first video from you that I watched I thought was the 2014 red Chevy Impala. I was searching up this car, as I've seen it at my local dealership and found it be a VERY nice car.
But now I come back to see that you also have a tour of the 1960 Chevy Impala, one of my most favorite Impalas (In RED too!!) THAT I HAD ALREADY WATCHED AND LIKED BEFORE.
It was destiny for me to subscribe to you SaabKyle04, you great man.
Sounds amazing!
man, i love the little chassi twitch when it revs!!!
awsome car . . . . . that exhaust note is sweet!
KYLE! Keep making these types of videos!! I love the classics! :D :D
I'm sure you know the SS did not come out until 1961! I had both a 1960 Impala and a 1961 SS!
So did I Mike Stone. Chevrolet built 200 1961 Impala Super Sports with 409 engines & sold them across the dealer floor to be NASCAR legal in late summer of 1961. They built an additional 325 1961 Impala Super Sports with high-performance 348 engines that were sold to the public. I ended up with one of those in the late '70's and suspect yours was one of the 325 as well.
Automobiles of this had definite style & class...
This is not an SS!!! The SS didn't come out until 1961. Great review of the iconic Chevrolet Impala sport coupe none the less!!!!!
To bad their wasn't a test drive, I wanted to hear this car on the road!
Not an SS... They came out with the super sport option in 1961. Still a cool car though. I have a 1963 impala SS and I love it.
Beautiful car and advanced engineering for its time, when some of the present competitors were making three wheeled vehicles, (like Isetta-BMW) or haven't even existed, like all Korean brands, whose factory locations were undisturbed agricultural land at the time.
How times have changed!
While they developed state of the art production capacity, our existing ones turned into unsightly industrial wasteland. It's difficult not to feel heartache-felt nostalgia, when you look at these beauties.
that is better looking than most brand new boring cars coming out these days!
This has to be one of the best sounding cars I've ever heard, although it does seem like it's idling a bit high in neutral...
Looks like it's got aluminium heads, probably closer to 350 HP now than 250... =)
i would KILL to have that car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes .Love this year model.
@cupramac the late 50s and early 60s was considered the "space age". everyone was obsessed with outer space and that showed up on cars and buildings as well. that is why the cars had those rocket fins.
my dream car....
man absolutely a beautiful machine!!!!! cars were a work of art and people took pride in them theres nothing like and old chevy!!!
Beautiful car! Wish it was mine!!!!!!!!!!!
7:51 Give Me Shelter by The Rolling Stones!!! Omg I love this song!
i now own this car and the very first thing i did was replace the wheels with Coy C5 gunmetals.
oh man this car is awesome!
Gorgeous impala... it's my firm belief that the owner should have gone with hydraulics instead of air ride, but then again I am not the one driving it.... or paying for the build.... the paint seems to be dripping off that gorgeous body, why don't new cars look that slick?
The backend of this car is so fucking sweet and that fucking airplane!!!!!
Nothing says wasted space better than those tail fins. However, I absolutely love the look of it.
@Alex148710 it doesn't have hydraulics, it has an air ride kit. Totally different. High end luxury cars use the same kind of suspension setups. They ride smoother than traditional strut/spring suspension setups.
8:10 perfect cruising music with that car!!
classic cars are the best......
i don't even like muscle cars but this baby is badass
Not a muscle car...just a classic chevy.
'58-'64 Chevy 348/409 cars were the muscle on the road before the "muscle cars" hit the streets in 1965/1966. :)
These model cars had a fairly simple horn mechanism, but it was hard to keep working and pieces are probably hard to find! What I liked, no matter where you pushed the 'horn ring" it honked, unlike most today! The hard top version had really improved from the older hard tops that didnt seal very well.
That in-dash radio has an AM radio dial. I don't even think there was FM radio back in 1960. Of course, the radio could have been upgraded and modernized to have FM stereo "guts" while keeping the original AM dial look.
Beautiful car :)
So nice, I had to look this up bcuz I saw one in my town today same car down to the wheels only. ..wait 4 it. ...convertible
Idk what everone is complaining about those wheels are sick!!!!
By looking at the steering column the transmission range selector shows only "D' and "L". I would bet that hanging off the back of the engines bell housing was really the bullet proof and famous, 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission as opposed to the General Motors Turbo Hydromatic three speed transmission. I could be wrong, maybe I missed something.
heffo and juff no you are correct!!!!
Yes you are wrong, there were 3 audible clicks as he shifted through the gears. It was very common in the '70's or so to swap the Turbo Hydramatic in the place of the good old PowerGlide Trans. As there were no THMs in 1960 the "dial" on the steering column is the 2-speed PowerGlide, but the driver ignores the dial and "counts the clicks" if he wishes to shift between 1-2-Drive. Good catch!
Damn that's nice. Luv 59 and 60s. So so classy. I don't care of u change rims a nice is a nice car. The stance it's right too. People talking about its pimped,it don't even have a stereo system, smh. People hate too damn much. Design your own car
Yeah, the wheels and the 'low rider crap' would come off if I owned it, I had a beautiful black one !
NICE WALK THROUGH !!!!!!!!!
Another interesting fact, in 1963 one out of every ten cars sold in the United States was a Chevrolet, but that all ended in 1970 with an GM strike which sadly put my Dad out of business.
aah, vintage, the time before starting the car with a button
I bought this car. It now sits in my garage with new Coy C5 gunmetal wheels.
Its amazingly quiet
Awsome Video, Kyle. Please Keep Them Coming.
This is the American Dream right here :D
Those wheels.... they would work better as mini fire pits than be put on that car
Those rims are beautiful.
the first SS Impala was in 1961
@rizrz34 No that's an A6, the A7 is a hatch
beautiful car
dont touch a man's fuzzy dice especially in a old car xD I'm glad they restored this car; I've always hated seeing old nice looking cars like a 1967 chevy chevelle and all those nice decent cars that still have alot of life for a human. One day they will grab all the junkyard classics and restore them and see them at their local dealership. that's what i want to happen in the future. Don't u agree Kyle; btw nice job with this video I love impala's
This is a nice car ...
Needed Classic Crager rims, but..radiio is killer old "wonder bar" type, never said if it had headers? did notice it has stainless steel pipes with glass packs, n 5 body trunk..great for seeking buddy's into the drive inn,
Crager S/S Chrome rims were the best on any '58-'64 Impala. Believe the radio is a push-button AM, but not a "signal-seeking" Wonderbar like the Tri-5 Chevys had.
Would love to see this nice piece of Americana history Stock with the A/C. Awesome interior Buy it Kyle and Restore it to original.
All chrome engine, that must have cost a fortune to restore. Beautifull piece of late 50s engineering.
Hate those wheels... Rallye wheels would be better.
A set of ralleys would be the bomb!!!!!!!!
they knew how a car should look like in the good old days!
I always thought a light sky blue with a white interior looked nice.
@SemihUysal96 It's true he doesn't test drive as much but those cars seem to move off the lot pretty quick so it's best they stay there whiles they're for sale since customers can walk in at anytime.
Jesus christ this is gorgeous!
beautiful
ooohhhh so beautiful!
It would be so cool if you could review Ferraris, but i know that is really hard to do. Really cool videos anyway dude
This is what I would like for Christmas, If any one is wondering?
Awesome car
I can so imagine Dean coming up somewhere right now to get in. XD
7:52 perfect song!
You should do a review on a WRX Bugeye Wagon. I want to get one so bad.
Do you think cars with manual transmission in the 1950s had biting point that when you came off the clutch the car would creep forward without giving gas.
who would dislike this???
Very nice car, and great tour as always :)
I accidently flagged this as inapropriate.. sorry aboit that :(
