For the amount of years that I've been working on vehicles I just noticed something that should have been noticed. I was always using a breaker bar to compress the coil but you got it right by using the jack and compressing it that way. Good job and great video. I just got my 3-in lift and I'll be doing the same this week
I bought a budget boost kit from JGCParts for my 04 Cherokee... 2.5"front and 2"rear. Their instructions really did not go into detail. Your video saved me $$ from having to take my Jeep into an auto shop to get mine installed. I also installed new shocks so the job took me a few hours. Thank you for posting this video, it was really really helpful. positioning of the spring compressors is key, i rented mine from my local auto store. Thanks again.
Bro, Extremely informative on the size=brand of tire and the difference shown with and with out. I just bought a 99 and I am realizing everything you can do, so far I'm Impressed! Good video my dude.
I did not rotate the rears to the front until the fronts needed to be replaced. I am just now needing to replace the other two tire's, I got about 25,000 miles out of them. with a lot of off road use.
Thank you for the videos, great help! The hardest part was with the spring compressors. I had to cut mine shorter and buy another pair for compressing the springs more to be able to reinstall them with the BB lift things on.
Hey Bud, Awesome Video. Helped me out a bunch.. Did a 3 in lift on my 2000 Grand Cherokee yesterday.. your video made it a breeze... Spring compressor tool, Little scary but all good.. Thanks.
You placed the spacers on the bottom of the springs but rusty's website says they ride at the TOP of the springs. Did you do this for any particular reason? This kit is simply a set of 4 spacers positioned on top of the factory coil springs. Since the factory coils are retained, you can be sure this kit has no negative effects on the excellent factory ride characteristics! No bump stops are needed; we have found that they may limit travel more than needed unless you use a significantly larger tire. We recommend a maximum 245 size tire for this kit. The factory shock absorbers are long enough to work with this kit, however we recommend replacing them with Rusty's Hydro Performance Shocks for an better ride and for proper extension travel when the vehicle is used off-road.
Nice video work. Looks good! I have the same size tires on my stock height 04 @ they rub the wheel well on tight parking lot turns. 2 inch looks like it worked out prefect. Thanks four the video. I'm sold.
instead of lowering it and then jacking it back up with the coil compresser, Why didn't you just put the compressor on then lower it and take the shock out?

@@xmo552 The ZJ's are a little bit cheaper to build then a WJ. The measurements in the video was showing before and after getting 2 inchs over stock for a WJ.

Just an update to this. My spring perches were rusted out and bought the repair kit from ironrock and once they were welded on, I moved the front spacers to the top and it rides a lot better.
was wondering I have a 94 jeep grand Cherokee and was thinking about doing the same thing you don't need ant extent ions for the brake lines or drive line do you? and what about a 3" would I need anything else besides the spacers?

It really dose NOT matter it its on top or bottom. It's not going to come out even at full flex. I put over 40,000 miles on it since I've installed those spacers and have had zero problems with alignment or wobbling or any other issues. I have a ton of videos on my channel of it off road under full Flex check out my newest video Jeep WJ flexing.
They also sell transmission spacers to mitigate any drive line vibrations. I have heard you only need that around a 3+ inch lift so 2 inches you probably wont need it.
Well, you're not messing the toe in or the camber or tie rods. I don't know why you would need to, I'd like to see the alignment stats before and after to see if it messes with it.
Great Video!!! How are those tires on the road? I wont be doing a lot of mud but LOVE the looks of it... are they making noise? you inspired me to do the same on my 04 WJ, after I got an offer for 600$(!!) my WJ has the same color, think Im gonna paint the rims matt black after the process is done :))
Great video man. I was confused about the coil compressor part though, what was the purpose of that and is it completely necessary? I don't have those specifically would be possible to use any sort of strong clamp??
If you don't compress the coil it will not come out or back in with the new spacers. I would only use a coil/spring compressor. Using any sort of strong clamp can be very dangerous if the compressed coil where to slip out of the clamp.. Check your local part stores they should have specialty tools for rent.
***** That's the kind of tool you can "rent" for FREE from AutoZone, O'Reilly Auto Parts, etc. Just requires a temporary deposit. (And hope that the previous user didn't tear up the tools too badly!)
In your video for the front and the back you decompress the spring, put the compressor on, then compress the spring all the way back down, that doesn't make any sense. You do the same thing when you're taking the compressor off. You ought to be installing the compressor at the springs most compressed state as well as uninstalling it at its most compressed state, it will save you a good amount of time and trouble.
"You ought to be installing the compressor at the springs most compressed state as well as uninstalling it at its most compressed state." Only if you can fit the spring compressor on when the springs are all the way compressed. Not happing the spring compressor is about a 1/2 inch thick.
I think you're completely missing my point. Even at the amount of compression at which you remove the springs, there is still enough space to get the lip of the compressor in and out of the space between the coils. I'm just saying you're making too much work for yourself, not that you're doing anything "wrong." I appreciate that you made these videos, things like this help a lot when guys come asking around on forums about how to install their new lift. Thanks.

Just an update to this. My spring perches were rusted out and bought the repair kit from ironrock and once they were welded on, I moved the front spacers to the top and it rides a lot better.
I'm about to put a 3inch kit on my 02 Laredo here soon
what size tires? just got a 02 Laredo dont want the tires to rub
Good vid.. Very helpful... Mike in LA, Calif
What's the tire size you're running on that? Thanks
Did you have any rub running that size before the lift?
I drove it straight home from the tire shop didn't rub on the street but if doing any kind of wheeling it will rub.
FastestIntegra
Cool, good to know.
was wondering I have a 94 jeep grand Cherokee and was thinking about doing the same thing you don't need ant extent ions for the brake lines or drive line do you? and what about a 3" would I need anything else besides the spacers?
Nothing, Rustys offroad has a 3.5'' kit for the ZJ.
www.rustysoffroad.com/jeep-suspension/jeep-suspension-lift-kits/zj-grand-cherokee-93-98-jeep-suspension-lift-kits/
how long does this whole process take for 1 tire? Is it the same process for the back?
So you don't have to buy a longer sway bar arm?
So I could do this to my 2002 with no problem? ?
You can put this kit on Any WJ No Problems. You dont need to upgrade anything else unless your going to lift it more then 3 or 4 inch's. Even then a good kit should come with everything you need.
How do you put the back on
does it matter if the spacer goes on top or bottom
Theoretically it should not matter if it's on top or bottom I've been running them on the bottom for years now and it did not affect anything the Jeep drove perfect and four-wheeled awesome
When I lift my Jeep with those spacers the jeep star doing death wooble
replace your track bar
What fixed it
It’s not just the track bar it’s the wheel barrings breaks ball joints and any part that has a rubber gaskets and also the upper and lower sway bars so just replacing the track bar won’t fix it I am handing the same problem after installing my lift

Still got a wobble.
I have a buddy at a race car alignment shop. He says on our 5 link Jeeps it's usually the track bar and tires. He says bad tires can induce a wobble.
My tires are pretty bad. Tomorrow I'm getting tires and the next day it's going into that alignment shop.
I'll come back and report.
I need to change the shocks?
Do you think i'll be okay with 3" inch spacers ? Thanks
Christian Legorreta i bought a 3 inch spacer for the front of my wj. went to get it installed and the guy said it was gonna need more parts such as sway bar links longer shocks and possibly new coils. and could be pretty dangerous the 3 inch is also heavier so itll compress the spring too quickly so he just bought me this kit and it looks really good
What size where the tires on your jeep?
thanks bro just got into jeeps had a yota 4runner on toyo 33s
Why not leave it jacked up before putting on the coil compressors then let the jack down? Seems like ALOT of extra work/time for no reason...
There was not enough space for me to do that. The compressor just would not fit with it jacked up.
Those hooks can't fit between the springs?
can i get this kit in the UK and do you need to change anything else
Yes and no.
An adjustable track bar is sometimes recommended.
Hi me again was wandering did you blow out ur shocks or did you have to change them to after market like 0-2'' in shocks? or did you stick with origanal shocks and do they work good anough? with out changing them? just wandering due to I havve ordered the 2'' lift kits ya told me about and was wandering if I need to change my shocks or NO? thanks again
I'm running the stock shock's and springs, They work good with this kit.
Check out my new videos.
Rustys Offroad sales a 2.5" shock's and springs kit for $380
I'm looking to do the same to my jeep and i have some questions for ya.
1.Did you have replace other parts like brake lines or sway bars?
2.How are the coil spaces working out for you/ have you had any trouble with them.
3.Did you get exactly 2" of lift? more or less? And does you'r jeep sit even after lift was installed.
sorry for so many question. great video by the way!
1. You don't need to replace anything with the 2" lift
2. It drives like stock and 4wheels even better.
3. I got exactly 2" front and rear.
Watch the beginning and the end of the video for the before and after pics.
Thanks you I appreciate it.
After lifting 2 inches my JGC WJ developed a death wobble. No problem with yours?
No death wobble and I have been doing a lot of 4 Wheeling with it and it's still good.
could you fit 33s after putting the 2 inch lift?
Martin Colula i fit 31 with very minor trimming
Martin Colula NO!!!
+Jacob Lagerstrom im going to soon get some wrangler wheels. Most come with255/75 and some with 255/70 i believe. You said you run 32s on your jeep without any modification to the suspension or fenders?
thanks for doing this video..I just got a 2002 WJ with low mileage and wanted a little lift for trails but not super crazy..so the budget boost kit has everything but spring compressors right?..let me know when you can as I'm saving up to get it
How come you got more lift than me i my buddy and i both have wj jeeps and we both purchased the same lift as u budget boost and neither one of us got the full 2.5 in front or 2" in rear we only got a little over 1" i contacted the conpany they said they had never herd of that .
stephenjray1988 Did you put the spacers on the top or the bottom of the spring?
bottom
Did you use the same before measures he took?
I took them in same location but hell its been almost a year since i done it idk what the measurements were
stephenjray1988 you probably got less lift than he did because maybe you took off the issolators. the issolators them selfs are about 1 inch thick
on speed society the best automotive site on the web there survey said most 96% of people don't go mudding when they get MT Mudd terrain tires. so no going where the tire is intended to you loss, traction and performance everyday. for everyone one who just like the side bite tire look. buy A/T tires there cheaper and can performance on street
Is this the same how it would be on a 2000 jeep xj grand cherokee?
It might be slightly different, but it's close enough.
If you can do what I did on my WJ. You can do it to your XJ, Good luck!

Did you have any trouble with death wobble after installing this lift and hitting a bump to cause death wobble if you did have this experience how did you fix it I finished my install 2 days ago I used your video to do so so thank you it made it a lot easier
No death wobble with the 2" boost. When I went to 4" kit yes, I have a good video on my channel how I fixed that. I have over 275 video Please come check out🙃

@@MongrelOne LOL🦄🦄🦄🦄
Hey did they rub before the lift?
what size are you tires?
+Leonardo Cuizapa 30
The spacers should always be mounted on TOP of the spring as it is retained by a clip that prevents the spring from coming off if stretched..
Any one lift a 2000 Jeep 4x4 awd that has only 4hi with 4 low? I was told u couldn’t
Yes you can lift it no problem. Mine is a 2000 with the AWD Quadra-Drive system has 4Hi, N and 4low.
They also sell transmission spacers to mitigate any drive line vibrations. I have heard you only need that around a 3+ inch lift so 2 inches you probably wont need it.
@@davishunt3018 I have only seen the Transfer Case spacer kit not a transmission kit.
@@FastestIntegra My bad that's what I meant haha
FastestIntegra ok thank you
Did you have to align the wheels after?
As with any suspension mods, yes, it is required it be aligned ASAP because it will mess with geometry a little bit.
As with any suspension mods, yes, it is required it be aligned ASAP because it will mess with geometry a little bit.
Well, you're not messing the toe in or the camber or tie rods. I don't know why you would need to, I'd like to see the alignment stats before and after to see if it messes with it.
@@JF32304
Actually it does a bit. The axle swings down, the pinion goes up, *caster* changes and that has a slight effect on camber and toe.
Great Video!!!
How are those tires on the road? I wont be doing a lot of mud but LOVE the looks of it...
are they making noise?
you inspired me to do the same on my 04 WJ, after I got an offer for 600$(!!)
my WJ has the same color, think Im gonna paint the rims matt black after the process is done :))
is this a safe lift? will it work on a zj?
Great video man. I was confused about the coil compressor part though, what was the purpose of that and is it completely necessary? I don't have those specifically would be possible to use any sort of strong clamp??
If you don't compress the coil it will not come out or back in with the new spacers.
I would only use a coil/spring compressor. Using any sort of strong clamp can be very dangerous if the compressed coil where to slip out of the clamp..
Check your local part stores they should have specialty tools for rent.
Alright cool dude. You're really helpin a high schooler on a high school budget!
"You ought to be installing the compressor at the springs most compressed state as well as uninstalling it at its most compressed state."
Only if you can fit the spring compressor on when the springs are all the way compressed.
Thanks.
Dear friend, I liked the video, I live in Brazil, I have a 2001 laredo too, I'll see if fasso a kit for me. Here we do not have these parts, it is difficult to buy. hug

Did u keep the stock shocks
Yes. I did not need to replace them and it rides just fine on and off road.
FastestIntegra. Thanks For The reply was asking cuz I'm going to be lifting mine up but wasn't sure if I could use the shocks already has
You can check if your shocks are good by taking them off and trying to compress them by hand if they go all the way down and don't come back up that shock is bad.
Why didn't you just put the compressors on when the spring was compressed? derrrrr
They don't fit because the coils are too close together. You have to get it as close as you can to fit the compressors in.
Nice vid you made it look so easy,
bro. tire size?
245/75 R16 as he stated at the beginning, which should be 30.5"
Did you touch it?
????
9 years later and the coil spring spacers are supposed to go above the springs. Read your instructions people.
Why don't you explain to everybody why they should be on top vs the bottom is there a difference in your opinion? And don't give me some bullshit answer like that's what the instructions say because instructions are generally a guideline on how to do things not this is exactly how it should be done.
What do you think is going to happen if it was installed that way?
How long do you think I drove it like that for without having problems?
My RUclips channel has all the video evidence you'll need LOL
