man ! ..... I enjoyed listening to your wife squeal and giggle while you were catching the fish ! She sounds like fun ! She sounds cheerful and a pleasure to be around.
My gosh, came to see advice you asked for in comments and see you have been invaded by the mean and low downs. You and your witty bitty or whatever you called her - did report very clearly all your findings. I saw very clearly there was a sexing flaw and even thought about another video where they used dye. I hope you have more videos on the topic. I am sure to want to see them all. Thank you sir.
Thank You for Your very informative video. My Wife has a field in Buriram Thailand, we're going to build a house there. I want to have a hatchery and raise tilapia, sell fingerlings to the Farmers and mature fish at the Saturday market. Thai People all eat tilapia.
I'm getting ready to set up a pretty big backyard system this summer (2000 gallons) and the one thing I've been having trouble finding information on his how to breed the fish and especially how to sex them. Thanks for the video, it answered all of my questions and even some I didn't know I need to ask.
Now I know how to tell the gender of tilapia! It's fascinating to see them care for their eggs until they hatch. How I wish they would survive in northern ponds! They're excellent algae eaters, I hear. Great stuff!
tanks for this video. it was so helpful with the commits it was awesome and answered many questions. looking now for some really cheap or free 29gal tanks because we are on a tight budget right now.
really cool...I no the difference now...Lots of females make lots of babies...Good batch of babies momma made...You have a nice set up there...How long before you can eat them Mark?
These guys reach a pound or two after a good summer of feeding. My 1 year old are about 2-3 lbs now. They will grow pretty quick if you keep the water clean and feed them two or three times a day. I feed my only once a day. I'll make a video on eating them in a bit. Thanks Gonzo!!!
what filtering do you use ? I do a.p. in 400 gallon tank and grow plants. I have a 30 gallon system to try breeding and not a lot of supplies. I have a air stone and 100gph mini pump to pump water up could run it through a cotton filter product will that be enough to filter out tank for 8 days? will it catch the babies and take them all away?
Do you separate the male once you see the females holding eggs? I did that, and my two holding females ended up swallowing their eggs after 2 weeks without the male in there.
Is it normal that they fight alot??? I was trying to breed my female tilapia but the other fish i got in the tank is another female!!! Lol I just found it out thanks to your video 👍 Should i keep the two females together even tho they bite each other or shoul i seperate them of each other????
What does the average temperature need to be for Tilapia I hear it was much warmer for them then a bass or blue gill. I live in Texas where its nice and hot but the winters can get a little nippy. Just wondering what will happen in the winter time if i put my Tilapia in a pond.
Hey brother have you ever heard of tilapia in colder climate ponds I live in ohio let some fingerlings lose in my small bass pond low and behold I have tilapia this year about 3 to 4 inch the pond froze over last winter , any case just wondered if you've heard of such a thing . Keep them great videos coming man
i am wondering -- is it legal in all States to raise Talapia in tanks? I know in Mississippi you need to buy permits and have an inspection done if you want to add them to a Pond on your property. Very Informative video -- i am wanting to give it a try
lifebuzzn , I was thinking of moving an ibc tote into my garage, but was afraid of my tools rusting. I'm near Austin, tx. Do your drill bits or tools rust ?
I run mine in the garage during the winter only, and keep them covered as much as possible. It does put moisture in the air, so use a dehumidifier or keep it very drafted. If you haven't already done so, subscribe to keep up with updates. Thanks
I need some help with my tilapia. I have 3 blue Tilapia, 1 male and 2 females they are all about 8 inches each. I had my male a lone for all his life and when I introduced 1 female he seemed happy, 2 days later I put in another female, but this time the female that was already in the tank beat up my new female, now I have the new female in a separate tank recovering from scale loss and ripped fins. Meanwhile in the tank I have the male and female in the female is getting beat up occasionally by the male and gets chased too. How can I get them to breed? What am I doing wrong? How can I have a 4 to 1 ratio when i have females fighting? My tank is a 50 gallon with 630 gal/hour internal filtration, sand, drifwood, stones, and 2 plecos.
that was hilarious and educating at the same time. I'm not always enthused about looking at animals genitalia, but it is important when breeding. I didn't realize they were so hard to catch, I'm going to need a bigger net. could you set the net in there, so they an not so afraid of it, let them get used to it, then feed them and as the come up scoop them out? honest question
how do you identify which female will spawn after you isolate those 3 females and one male in the aquarium? is it necessary to turn off the oxygen tank when the eggs hatch?
So does male tilapia eat the young ones more, I have a huge tank. 200 of them are there and they just reproduced once... There are 15 days old ones but just 10 or 15 of them. I have a very big concrete farming water tank... I threw them inside. They were 100 and I already gave them away so now what am left with are 200 of thier babies that are 7months old now. How can I save the young ones from getting eaten. Please help
My female tilapia is holding eggs in her mouth, what should i do. should I separate her and keep her alone or keep the male and female please let me know Thank You
Your breeder tank looks fairly small. Most info on the net says that to breed Tilapia, you need a 75g and larger tank. What size is your tank? It looks like it is only 29g. Also, how much is all that equipment costing you in terms of electricity (ball park)?
Jaime Craig Don't worry about what people say, do what works for you. Yes, they are 29's, and work just fine. I use 1 male to 4-5 females. Once she has fertilized eggs, I move her to a 29 of her own. I do also have a 75 breeder tank in the house, but that's a luxury. I'm currently raising a couple of thousand adults for about $50 monthly.
I have to be doing something wrong....started tank on March 23 and as of this morning no full mouth and all three females are still eating. my ammonia was at 8 bio kicked in down to 1.0 and added a few more tubes today. one female chases all the other fish around protecting her space.
Is your temp close to 90 F? Also......do you have a hiding place for the male to fertilize the eggs? Are you sure you have only one male in your breeding tank?
Jason Graves It doesn't bother my water at all. The boy make the pot his home and attracts the female there to fertilize. I use a 10 or 10" pot......depending on the tank size.
LifeBuzzN Thanks! I'm enjoying your channel. Keep up the good work. oh, btw, you mentioned in one video that you are 7'1". You got me by just a couple inches!
The male will start encouraging her immediately after spitting out the young. If you let him, he'll exhaust her to death. I usually let 1 female go once a month. Keeps her healthy.
+marshall seward You can start there, but you may grow out of it. I have several 29 gal breeder tanks running with my smaller fish. I would add a 3 female....he will keep them pretty busy.
happy fish farms Gregg is right on, the female has a crescent vent hard to see with out mag. and food color and even then it can be hard for a beginner. I like to add you should not put female back in with male right away that's poor breading and is hard on her for she has lost weight and hasn't ate for about 2 weeks, Let get her weigh back up for a couple weeks then put her back. I find that a bell jar incubator is the best way to go if you want a lot of fish. I have tried most ways to incubate. Also sac fries can make it on their own if you have no fish in tank. Larry
Meadroit Good eye........I found that little guy in the tank later and saved him. Funny I didn't notice him and a couple others until the video. Thanks for watching. Those little guys are 3-4 inches now.
Awesome : ) Can I ask, do you sell your fish? We are doing the same thing here in GA, and trying to find out the licensing, etc., that we need to have. Any clue? I am getting tons of babies!! lol
LifeBuzzN Yeah, I have looked those over. Isn't it crazy!! Georgia has this all messed up, in my opinion. But, I guess I'll fork over the monies and get the license. I have over 1300 babies at this time, with two more females holding eggs. Are the laws more lenient in your neck of the woods? (Just curious) I love watching your video's, and appreciate your sharing. Once I get my tanks looking "shiny", I hope to make a video showing our set up. Maybe you'll check it out, too? Thanks so much, and have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! Good luck on all your endeavors!
Thanks Tina, you bet I'll check out your vids. In TN we need to have a "Fish Dealer" license for $50.....if it''s a closed system. It gets too cold here for them to winter outside, so not as invasive...I guess. Good luck and Happy Labor Day to you as well.
man ! ..... I enjoyed listening to your wife squeal and giggle while you were catching the fish ! She sounds like fun ! She sounds cheerful and a pleasure to be around.

I'm hoping to start an Aquaponics system, and thoroughly enjoyed this video. I can't wait to get started.
Good luck, be sure to look up my Friend Greg at Mineral Springs Tilapia.
Wow! What a channel Greg has. I'm going to be busy for a while. Thanks for the information.

Yes they do eat a lot of algae. The Southern States consider Tilapia an invasive species..... guess I can understand that. Thanks Friend.
LOVE THE VIDEO Ibread all different fish aswell as reptiles keep it up my friend
Thanks Friend.
anytime and Waiting for the Next one Bud!! Thanks again
Great video!
How old were those fish?
And how do you know they're ready to breed?
tanks for this video. it was so helpful with the commits it was awesome and answered many questions. looking now for some really cheap or free 29gal tanks because we are on a tight budget right now.
+1stladyalison garage sales always produce cheap tanks.
Thank you for your video. Now my fish farm is doing well
I really enjyed watching this video.
Good Job👌
Thank You

THANK YOU FOR THE SHOW. DID A GOOD JOB.
great channel dude...keep postin the good vids.
CrazyFarm Thanks, will do.
What size tanks do you use for breeding tanks?
GORGEOUS,I LOVE IT ,LEARNING
Wonderful!
How old were the fish before they started to spawn? Thank you!
***** maybe 3-4 months
what filtering do you use ? I do a.p. in 400 gallon tank and grow plants. I have a 30 gallon system to try breeding and not a lot of supplies. I have a air stone and 100gph mini pump to pump water up could run it through a cotton filter product will that be enough to filter out tank for 8 days? will it catch the babies and take them all away?
Trying to set mine up...do u need to seperate them to breed ?
what do you use to feed them babies?
Do you separate the male once you see the females holding eggs? I did that, and my two holding females ended up swallowing their eggs after 2 weeks without the male in there.
thinking about starting an aquaponic I would love to learn how to reproduce fish for that.
After how many days will she be ready to spawn more babies
Is it normal that they fight alot??? I was trying to breed my female tilapia but the other fish i got in the tank is another female!!! Lol I just found it out thanks to your video 👍
Should i keep the two females together even tho they bite each other or shoul i seperate them of each other????
Yuliana Maldonado I keep 5 or 6 female to one male. They are community fish, so should coexist fairly well.
what type of food r u feeding ???
What does the average temperature need to be for Tilapia I hear it was much warmer for them then a bass or blue gill. I live in Texas where its nice and hot but the winters can get a little nippy. Just wondering what will happen in the winter time if i put my Tilapia in a pond.
thank you island girl.
If it hits 50....they usually die.
Thank you so much.
I have some fry that’s in a tank with gravel...should I remove the gravel?
Thanks for the video.
It should be ok. Your breeder tank should be free of gravel. Mom will need to see the eggs to gather.
Ok thanks
Love this video. How much space is needed for your operation? I would love to start something similar
Reginald Roberts I started with a 29 gallon tank and a 250 gallon tote. The entire winter operation is in my garage.
Hi,Is it the same process for Red Tilapia also?
Yep, pretty much.
Good sharing
Hi sir.. tilapia fishes next month February in breeding avilable ok sir?
I have a problem with my male, attacking the females . have you experienced that?
He's encouraging them to lay eggs.
Hey brother have you ever heard of tilapia in colder climate ponds I live in ohio let some fingerlings lose in my small bass pond low and behold I have tilapia this year about 3 to 4 inch the pond froze over last winter , any case just wondered if you've heard of such a thing . Sounds interesting......mine full bred fish die when it hit's 50.
i am wondering -- is it legal in all States to raise Talapia in tanks? I know in Mississippi you need to buy permits and have an inspection done if you want to add them to a Pond on your property. Very Informative video -- i am wanting to give it a try

Hey LifeBuzzN after setting up a breeding colony how long it takes to have babies
Willy Deutia Once the temp was above 80, the male stared showing signed within a week or two. After a couple of weeks, the 1st female was carrying.
that was hilarious and educating at the same time. I'm not always enthused about looking at animals genitalia, but it is important when breeding. how do you identify which female will spawn after you isolate those 3 females and one male in the aquarium? is it necessary to turn off the oxygen tank when the eggs hatch?
You can tell by their body language. The male will encourage them by chasing them around the tank and rubbing on them.
Were you successful using the 20 gallon tank?
So does male tilapia eat the young ones more, I have a huge tank. 200 of them are there and they just reproduced once... There are 15 days old ones but just 10 or 15 of them. do you sell equipments necessary for tilapia breeding hatchery, like aeretors, filtration systems and whatsoever
I don't, but check out my Friend Greg at Mineral Springs Tilapia....He'll hook you up.
What size terra cotta pots do you use?
How do you feed the little fry's?
Hellw ia it ok that the parents of the fish wll stay wjth the babies or not
My female tilapia is holding eggs in her mouth, what should i do. should I separate her and keep her alone or keep the male and female please let me know
Thank You
THANKS FOR SHARING,GOOD JOB.
Thanks for watching!
Very cool! Nice setup.
I find it more and more fascinating the more I do it. These guys are cool. Thanks TRp.
How many babies do they have approx?
Hi sir I have a question??
What type of medicine use for how to produce eggs from fish?? What's madecine??
Can we breed the Tilapia year round..
They cannot tolerate temperatures below 60 degrees.
Do you need to buy a Permit to raise Talapia at home in a tank? I'm very interested
Your breeder tank looks fairly small. Most info on the net says that to breed Tilapia, you need a 75g and larger tank. What size is your tank? It looks like it is only 29g.

he's using an IBC tote, and the water looks half full. i would guess his tank is 125-150 gallon.
Jaime Craig yeah, because the net is always right
nice set up
That's weird because I had the opposite problem. I had all males. Are those oreochromis aureus?
Yep, Blue Tilapia. I did end up finding plenty of males, just took more "catching". Thanks Al.
That’s badass. I’m hungry already
How many male and how many female for breeding required ,I mean proportion
Real good video you da man
or were they trying to eat her eggs?....they will cannabalize the fry..right ?
? are you selling your fish as they get bigger or are you just keeping them?
+Horton I do much better selling them small. I keep a tank with big ones for consumption.
do you sell them to local pet stores? I have a cpl extra tanks laying around and Im looking at getting started harvesting talapia
email me I need more teaching on it thehorton7@yahoo.com
Great video! What kind of filter do you use in your fry tank? What temp do you keep the water for them? Thanks for sharing!
panzig Thanks, I keep the tank at about 80 - 84 degrees and use a basic Bio Sponge Filter. Good Luck.
What size tank was that that you used for breeding ?
Jason Williams 75 Gallon. However, I also us 20 gallon tanks for breeding the younger fish.
What do you feed 8 day old fry?
Are these Blue Talapia or Mozambique ?
I have to be doing something wrong....started tank on March 23 and as of this morning no full mouth and all three females are still eating. my ammonia was at 8 bio kicked in down to 1.0 and added a few more tubes today. one female chases all the other fish around protecting her space.
Is your temp close to 90 F? Also......do you have a hiding place for the male to fertilize the eggs? Are you sure you have only one male in your breeding tank?
As best I can....the food colouring test the male is a V right????
On way to work will check in during the day.
once you see the babies like this come out, when do you remove the female and let the babies grow out?
I leave the female until the babies spend most of their time out of her mouth. Usually day six or 7.
Does it just take time to. Start? Last time and this time they swim around and don't mate. Too three weeks last time is that normal?
Water 85 degrees and oh at 8
Ph
They have cleared the rocks and one seems to guard the area....more then likely a alpha female
So, why do you use a clay pot? Does that negatively affect the water ph at all? What size do you use?
Jason Graves It doesn't bother my water at all. The boy make the pot his home and attracts the female there to fertilize. I use a 10 or 10" pot......depending on the tank size.
LifeBuzzN
Thanks! I'm enjoying your channel. Keep up the good work.
oh, btw, you mentioned in one video that you are 7'1". You got me by just a couple inches!
Jason Graves Yeah, it's been many years since I've met anybody taller than me.........
do tilapia have barbs on thier fins and gills like bass?
+Michael Baumann asking if a fish has gills is like asking if people have lungs. How else would they breathe?
+Jack Shields no, i asked if they have BARBS on thier FINS and GILLS like bass.
Michael Baumann My mistake.
Nice. will you sometime get a video of getting the female to cough up the fry, if you have the opportunity.... Thanks for the video.
4erdf Sure
Does 2month old tilapia can be breed already? thanks
Judd Jim I've had 3 month olds breed, so you may be close.
LifeBuzzN thanks for the info!
is it true that they can control algae in farm ponds?
Very true.....they love algae. However, they will take over pretty darn quick, and die when it hits 60 degrees.
what size is that flower pot?
do tilapia eat other small baby tilapia?
How long does the babies take to hatch in the mothers mouth??
6_10 days depend on tempreture
The ideal 25°c
How frequently do they produce young? Once a month? More? Less?
The male will start encouraging her immediately after spitting out the young. If you let him, he'll exhaust her to death. I usually let 1 female go once a month. Keeps her healthy.
LifeBuzzN sounds terrible. Thank you.
Thank you for your info through video. :)
+Joesph Sansome You are welcome.
would a 29 gallon tank be enough for 3 fish two females and one male opinions please
+marshall seward No... Tilapia can grow up to 15 inches in length, so they will quickly outgrow that small tank.
+MrMyFarts well i have put them in a 29 gallon tank and they have been breeding up a storm
Yeah, they'll do that. Cichlids have a tendency to bread like mad anywhere you put them.
+MrMyFarts well they also have a tendency to fight also.
+marshall seward You can start there, but you may grow out of it. I have several 29 gal breeder tanks running with my smaller fish. I would add a 3 female....he will keep them pretty busy.
Thanks for the upload
Also I live in Georgia and I was wondering if you knew where I could buy a starter group
Reginald Roberts Check craiglist. Just know that Georgia has laws against Tilapia. In warm areas, they are considered invasive.
@@LifeBuzzN @Reginald Roberts dam law always f up something good
happy fish farms Gregg is right on, the female has a crescent vent hard to see with out mag. and food color and even then it can be hard for a beginner. I like to add you should not put female back in with male right away that's poor breading and is hard on her for she has lost weight and hasn't ate for about 2 weeks, Let get her weigh back up for a couple weeks then put her back. do u sell your tilapia.. thats seems like the biggest headache to me
The commentary cracks me up! LOL
I love her.
do u sell tilapia and where cuz were gonna start raising tilapia. Do u just ship them through ebay.
+Austen Tietz I do this for my own consumption. Sorry.
Would love to see the heater build
how this geting warming to being the spem to small fish to being tiapia
Did You say, ( A Sexy Fish ? )
do they breed year round?
Mustard They need 84 degrees and a high PH to spawn. Could be year round if you control the environment. I like to rest my females between babies.
Just maintain your filter and water quality, you will be suprised by tank full of tilapia fries best of luck
Thanks, Thank you!!!!
I was wondering if you saw the baby swim by at 6:11 there? Guess that one slipped by! They do that...lol
Any clue? I am getting tons of babies!! lol
In some places they are considered exotic or invasive, for GA, Look here : www.georgiawildlife.com/node/728. Good Luck and thanks for your support.
LifeBuzzN Yeah, I have looked those over. Isn't it crazy!! Georgia has this all messed up, in my opinion. But, I guess I'll fork over the monies and get the license. Thanks Tina, you bet I'll check out your vids. In TN we need to have a "Fish Dealer" license for $50.....if it''s a closed system. It gets too cold here for them to winter outside, so not as invasive...I guess. Good luck and Happy Labor Day to you as well.
How can you tell wether the female is pregnant or not.
She'll have the babies in her mouth. Pretty easy to tell.
Thanks, Ya'll are swell !!!!!!!
Aw....Gee.....Thanks.
Can I put Koi with Tilapia?
I keep cheep goldfish with mine.....they don't bother them.
Boa Hancock i wouldnt recomend slow fish with tilapia, they will bite a chunk of them if they have the oportunity
where can I buy baby fry's?
Thanks I have to try that !!
When do you throw those dam things on the fryer?
At 9 months, they are plenty big to eat.
tilapia taste good ?
It's awesome.
How tall are you...?
lookatthebriteside 7'1".
