Look into Lakeway Tilapia. They are by far the #1 source on factual information written by biologists and are the largest Tilapia hatchery in the USA.

Nice food coloring trick! I have trouble sexing/venting my fish but this seems to be a useful method. How long does it take for the food coloring to go away?

Good video, real informative and helpful to anyone who wants to get into this. But, I've tried to eat this fish and, honestly - it taste terrible, far worse than any other fish I've ever eaten. I don't get what all the fuss is about raising this fish, other than as a survival food. My lake is full of them, with the ratio of Tilapia to bream and bass probably at least a 1000 to 1. I'm building a Tilapia fish trap right now in an effort to greatly reduce the number of these invasive fish. I've been throwing a cast net to see what I can get, and it's ALL tilapia, with only one single bream, one catfish, and one bass - EVERYTHING else was Tilapia with plenty of them about an inch or two long - so they are breeding nicely. I wish you luck in your business, but I honestly wish these fish had never been introduced to the U.S.

I rescued a 2-3 gallon tank that was full of baby talapia. About 25 & they're about 2.5" long give or take. The aquarium has a built in filtering system that is still working well. And a heater as well. I've kept fish before in the past but never talapia. I'm planning on adding a male & female to my outdoor pond that has a filter & is also heated. And the rest I plan on donating to my cousins aquaponics setup when they get larger. My question is, will it get along with my shabunkin fish & koi? They aren't much larger than my talapia at about 3-4". The pond is small, about 50 gallons & I just added the koi & shabunkin about 4 months ago. Any help would be helpful. Thank.

Thank you for the information. I have read from other sources that tilapia can begin breeding as early as 3 months and live up to 10 years. Is there a point in which they stop reproducing? And if so, at what age?

pretty awesome... those big fish are huge too...how many pounds you guess?...so you say a 4-1 ratio is good but most folk say min of 5 cuz dude will kill anything less...your opinion ?

The large adults range from 3 to 5 Lbs. As far as the fish ratio of 4 to 1; I have had the best results with this breading tank ratio. Every situation is different and what works for some may not work for everyone. There are numerous environmental factors when breading tilapia. Glad you enjoyed the video.
