I know that Stan Laurel was very much in touch with the fans :) After he retired he spent most of this time answering fan mail and even had his phone number in the phone book and many fans were actually surprised that they could just call him up and he would speak directly with them :) So i think HE at least knew how much beloved he was and i am sure Oliver did too :)
@@zerne7887 Me too :) I have heard personal histories though that in his final years even though he was in Retirement he seemed to enjoy the last years because of his devotion to fans as they must have been the main thing that kept him going :) A sweet personal story i have heard here on youtube was from a woman who as a young girl lived right across the street from him and frequently would vist him with her friends :) She said his wife was not always as welcoming as she wanted peace and quiet but Stanley himself was always kind hearted and friendly and open to inviting them in to talk or something like that :) I know its not a direct response from Stanley himself but if you were wondering how he was doing in his final years then i hope that was a good answer :)
Of the many amazing things in this two minutes of sublimity is how they avoid doing things in lockstep, seem to be moving independently of each other, and yet end up precisely in time. Without looking at each other, they make many tiny adjustments that lead to synchrony.
I always felt it's one of the things that makes his physical comedy so great, none of it would have been so funny if he were just a big lumbering oaf. The fact that he had such poise and grace (coupled with his character's self importance) it gave him so much further to fall, which made the payoff of the gags even better, in my opinion...
I am not sure what it is that makes me love this scene so very much. It may simply be the absolute whimsy and fun/joy that caused this great team to break into dance.
I hope these 2 are still together doing this .... maybe somewhere else, someplace else... but together just as we've known them making another whole planet happy.
Oh yes. I imagine when Laurel breathed his last, he found Hardy waiting for him, took his outstretched hand, and followed him to meet a crowd of cheering spirits and angels whom they were ready to entertain forever.
Can't wait till my granddaughter is old enough to follow these steps. We're gonna dance. She's two now and has a t-shirt that has the "Another nice Mess" line on it.
actually Jingles, Oliver made two mistakes in this routine. If you watch the movie Stan and Ollie you will see them perform the routine twice, once correct and once with the missteps
I remember these guys so well ,would always turn the ole black and white tv and laugh for a half hour, t his generation has NO IDEAL what CLEAN COMEDY IS
I soo love , Laurel & Hardy ,! I 1st remember from the 1st time i seen them on telly back in the 70s, as a kid,! Born 23rd May 1968, ! God Bless from northern Ireland UK 🤝🇬🇧
This was taken ten years before I was born and is still fresh today. Laurel and Hardy were and still are my heroes. If I ever feel a bit down I watch a Laural and Hardy movie. Comic geniuses who still make people laugh today.
Two of best actors, no people to ever exist we were blessed with these two and the fact that they are still remembered today is amazing, you'll always be in our memories and hearts Stan and Ollie
They were absolute Masters of simple comedy done well...their films had a charm and a warmth all of their own,...and they simply crackled with comedy magic every time they stood in front of the camera.......🎭🎥🎬
Even if the universe we live in would have a million worlds like ours, this still would never be found again anywhere. Those two were magic and utmost unique. I love you, men!
Mark of real entertain - not a single negative word in the Comments. Stan and Ollie were on TV every week whilst I was growing-up in the 1960s and 1970s and their humour truly was then and remains now utterly timeless! And then there's the dancin'!
Absolutely brilliantine and one of my favourite film clips from their magical career. Still bringing happiness & laughter after all these years. Simply the best !
This scene was portrayed brilliantly in the new movie Stan & Ollie. In County Hospital, you could tell that the scene with Stan and Ollie in the car was being filmed in front of another screen. Here, in the original, this is one of the very few occasions that you can barely tell that the boys are dancing in front of another screen. Superbly done!
Whilst I think you can tell it's filmed in front of a screen (simply because of the complexity of what's going on in the background, and a slight hint of a shadow), you can't see the join between the set (which the railings are part of) and the background.
No two people in film history have made such a lasting impact as Stan and Ollie. So sad to think they have no idea now how beloved they still are.Or maybe the are smiling down from comedy heaven!!💓💓😆😅
Words dont do these 2 legends justice. So no words needed. Just laughing and more laughing. R i p to stan and ollie. The greatest double act of all time.
I watched the Stan and Ollie movie and this son went from something that's funny to something that is beautiful. They were fantastic performers. God bless to the both.
From WAY OUT WEST. I found a VHS of the film in my library. I forgot I had it. "Babe" Hardy has a style and grace that has never been duplicated by the hundreds of impressionists who come close--but never truly get him right. This video is awesome. Thank you for posting it.
Only discovered this movie and songs in it recently. Have replayed the two songs constantly. They are proof that simple things can be the most effective.
Two dances. This one and the end scene. This dance Coogan and Reilly had to make the same mistakes Laurel and Hardy did in the original while the end scene the dance was done without mistakes.
Yes I had no clue what they were actually saying I just made it up! I remember watching their films with my mam and dad when I was little and dancing around the living room with my dad . Sadly they too are not here anymore but lovely memories !
Blows my mind every single time I watch them Oliver for a very big man 6"2 140+kilos. He was sooo incredibly light andakes everything seem . effortless . My year 11 art Major was on these two Mae West, Marlene. I can't get enough if these two 😍😍😍😍🤣🤣💜💜🙏
The greatest comic duo of them all! Several came along after them, but they will never reach the highest caliber that Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy had!
Ollie got many of his flourishing gestures, “airs and graces”, from an aunt who ran a boarding house in Georgia. She drank her tea with her pinkie extended. What a character she must have been!
If you've not seen it already, the making of this scene, mule and all, is accurately recreated in the 2018 film 'Stan & Ollie', but we see it from behind the camera.
Great clip! The lyrics are: "Commence to dancin' Commence to prancin' Commence advancin’ Right and left a glancin' A moochy dancin' Slide and glide entrancin' You do the tango jiggle With a Texas Tommy wiggle Take your partner and you hold her Slightly enfold her A little bolder Just work your shoulder Snap your fingers one and all In the hall at the ball That’s all Some ball"

Wow, he was part of one of the best pieces in movie history
May I ask, which of them was he?

For such a heavy man, Ollie is unusually light on his feet.

His agility for a "big man" then was legendary....thinking of his full speed runs like the one in Another Fine Mess.
Ollie loved to dance, and was appalled by larger men who had no grace.
I totally agree.
