    I wouldn't be so nervous. Romie will make a great mom. Very protective, just like Chalky. And this cross should be spectacular, Jay!! It's just a gut feeling I have. And they aren't usually wrong, BTW. Love from your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 🇨🇦😊

    Omg, more tears with these babies. And how Romie sniffs one and seems to love them already. I love Blackburn Farm and am so happy that Romie is there.

    This is what happens to Jay's retired racehorses. Most racehorses that leave the track are sold at auctions. Some enter the slaughter pipeline, but these days it's more rare.

      I've only know Cutter-Nehf Racing to treat their horses with the utmost care. Jay Nehf and Cynci Cutter were involved in the UC Davis Pet-Scan program, which has been used to provide valuable information on equine bone stress and development. I've seen them take a sizeable financial loss by retiring race horses to non-race non-breeding careers, rather than sell them into other barns, while their charges were healthy and sound, so that they might enjoy a healthy and useful after-racing life. Go post on those other kind of owner's channels. You're barking up the wrong tree here.

    How many mares and babies do y'all have now? I have been gone for a while and lost track when Chalky's (first?) little one was weaned . . .
    Have you been taking your other fillies back and breeding them? That is one reason I like watching y'all. You have mostly fillies, and I feel like you'll keep them for broodmares!

      We have Evening Sonnet who has a yearling colt by Classic Empire, is in foal to Vekoma and is booked to Golden Pal: Pasito, who has a Mitole weanling filly, is in foal to Omaha Beach and booked to Mendelssohn for 2024; and Classical Romance, booked to Vekoma for 2024.

    How do choose which farm you want to send your mares to?

    • @JayCNehfracing
      @JayCNehfracing  10 месяцев назад +2

      Coolmore Stud recommended several and we investigated, called around, looked online and decided on blackburn. It was an excellent choice.

    Hi Jay and Cynci, I haven't heard anything about Chalky lately. I know we kept her Mitoli foal to train and hopefully to race. Has that one been named? Is Chalky still yours and is there still a breeding program? Thanks!

    • @JayCNehfracing
      @JayCNehfracing  10 месяцев назад +1

      WE had just leased Chalky so we no longer have a connection. The filly's name is Bet the Chalk and she is at Santa Anita with Sean Mc Carthy, a very good, well run operation.

      @@JayCNehfracing Oh no. I love Chalky, is she safe? She loved it in Kentucky being a mom so much and produced such an incredible filly. It is hard enough not being able to see any more of the filly who was so beautiful and sweet. I am glad the filly is in good hands and hoping that Chalky is too. She deserves to have a good home.

    Beautiful farm. Do you fly them to KY from CA or trailer? What’s the cost difference?

    • @JayCNehfracing
      @JayCNehfracing  10 месяцев назад +1

      They van to KY, it's less than half the cost of flying and they stop overnight halfway there.

    What made you choose VEKOMA for her maiden breeding?

    • @JayCNehfracing
      @JayCNehfracing  10 месяцев назад +8

      Very fast, a solid miler. Won the Met Mile in 1:32 and change. I believe you have to start with speed, if you don't have speed you won't even get to first base. Love his pedigree, sire and dam both from the Mr. Prospector line. I'm pleased with his conformation. And the fee is reasonable although I don't think it will stay at $15K. His yearlings are selling really well. We've done well with young stallions- Mendelssohn, Omaha Beach, Mitole. In 2024 we are expecting an Omaha Beach foal from Pasito (by More Than Ready) and a Vekoma from Evening Sonnet ( by Stay Thirsty). We have a Mitole yearling about to start breaking, and a Mitole weanling. This may be the longest reply I've ever made LOL

      I like the vekoma breeding, she kinda reminds me of shared belief n she has a little bit of storm cat in there, so a son of candy ride is a great choice imo.

      @@JayCNehfracing Thank you for the update on the baby we all fell so in love with. I was so worried about her and wondering if she was okay and still alive. It was so scary when she just disappeared. I am so relieved to hear the surgery was done and successful. That is really great news! Wishing we could have kept her, but it all seemed to work out best for her welfare.
