Instead of moaning about some random sound issues on the stage, people should focus on recognizing how little it takes to make a song shift from good to great. It's amazing to see how simple and repetitive the arrangement is on this song, while the weird but extremely interesting chord progression and the great vocal performances on top make it shine. Obviously, the groove is simple yet effective too. It just goes to show: Focus on the important bits of your songwriting and bloody practice your performance to become a master. Thanks, Ski, for another inspiring deconstruction!

only 10 mins in and I cannot thank you enough for this breakdown I love how you go into the music theory as well and keep it simple for a beginner like me, this is so awesome !
We had some limitations at the venue and could only get the master output and not split mic/laptop. The phasing is from the stage monitors playing back the laptop audio, interfering with the microphone.

takes some knowledge to be able to do this, cant wait to start the music production and sound engineering degree at point blank next year just happy to have the youtube channel for now haha
You missed the part that comes in under the vocals in the first verse, the quiet detuned sounding plucky synth, haha but thats super picky, this is insane, so cool
I've just realised that the crash that he played at 6:45 is the same as the crash in "Clint Eastwood" an alternate band that used the same set of drums in their 2 biggest songs. That's something you just don't see nowadays.
Yeah I've been waiting for something like this cool man. Now would you pls do a Brand New Heavies deconstruction or Morsheeba(hope I spelled it right)) thanks
Um as far as music theory goes, the reason you can play a E major chord over an E minor bass riff, I think works because it's because it's blues, not because it was out of tune.
Also, if we are going into the context of the song, it makes total sense to have a major chord over a minor chord because Feel Good Inc. (Specifically the music video) is a company that controls what people are allowed to have, and 2D (Damon Albarn) imagines of once being free from this hell cage he is trapped into. The chords resembles a melancholy, broken, and loss of hope feeling.
This really was a top notch deconstruction by Ski who's all-round talent is on the level... Enjoyed watching and found great inspiration in how this was made. Thanks man.
Is this part of a music convention or is it a demo during a class? Would really like to see something like this or watch something that Point Blank are hosting in the future!
Hi Saffron. This was at Sonar +D in Barcelona, so a convention of sorts. Ski does these kinds of deconstructions regularly though and there's quite a few on our channel. Try the recent ones on tracks by Massive Attack, 808 State and Calvin Harris for more of this kind of thing.
amazing deconstruction and very informative video ! There is one cool sound missing - at 2:04 - there is a short "beep" sound which sounds really amazing anyone has an idea if it was sampled or synthesizedf ?
im curious, is there a reason why the left channel is inverted during the original song playback? it was very annoying, made me want to turn my head... anyway, this was a great deconstruction as always, thanks.
Really nice vids. Learn a lot from them. I get a little bit lost with Ableton and the arrangement view he always uses. A bit difficult to guess in what part of the song things go. It'll be easier for non-Ableton users if he so kind could use the other window where one could have a visual contest of what he is doing. But apart from that all good!!
Awesome Video and good rebuild of the Original but for me the analysis of the song is missing.. why they did this and that and the music theory behind that
Man I wish I could wrap my head around the music theory part of this more. Did he recognize the scale by ear or construct the notes and then identify the scale?
He had the score already laid out for him and so he knew. Could have possibly known it by ear or constructed the scale from the notes he played either way though, as it doesn't really matter :)
We had some limitations at the venue and could only get the master output rather than separate mic/laptop feeds. The phasing is from the stage monitors playing back the laptop audio, interfering with the microphone.
arghhh hate to say this but the "guitar" arpeggio on the first chord is slightly off. i think you got one note wrong and takes me out of the listening experience. other than that impressive decosntruction well done.
I did my own deconstruction of the song called blood sweat and tears by BTS. I might upload a video about it I didn't do the audio things like this but I did a whole lot of theories
i hate the first chord on the arpeggiated guitar, i hadn't noticed it until now, now everytime i listen to the real song i can't stop hearing how wrong it is.

This is not easy to perform on the fly.....brilliant deconstruction!
Crazy to hear how complex the track sounds, yet so simple when you actually see process. BRILLIANT
That drum beat and guitar really set it off!! Great job to you and all behind the scenes!
Absolutely amazingly talented guy.. Ski thank you Sir!!

2:00 Loving this 180° phase inversion between L and R hahaha
oh, so that's what's up. Even starting at 1:00. It was messing with my head
Yeah, it seems there's some phasing issues going on (I think possibly between the dry signal and the reverberated mic signal)
We had some limitations at the venue and could only get the master output and not split mic/laptop. The phasing is from the stage monitors playing back the laptop audio, interfering with the microphone.
Yes, like I wrote I suspected some kind of issue like this. Great content though!

I think it may just be a microwave beep maybe... And sampled from that, or maybe a square synthesizer
There's one sound missing, it's a very subtle melodic sound in the bridge, before the second chorus.
Like that beeping sound?
@@isaacdynys6518 No, I think it's the airy, atmosphere synth sound that is the same as the nylon string guitar

I dont get it: why is he using the controller to play the instruments? Why doesn't he use the keyboard MIDI?

synth arpegio notes/chords??
Did he just get the drum samples from the original song? Because they sound exactly the same...
Never mind, I just noticed he used the shit quality stems from the game Rock Band 4.

deconstruct Sandstorm, pleaaaaase
There is one on RUclips By DR mix that is not bad just put it in search

How did he get those sounds?
That Eb Chord is definitely minor.
DId he really use the growls as "beeps" on the word "ass"?

What's up with the audio at 1:00? There's some weird sort of phasing thing going on that confuses my ears.

i wonder why nobody noticed, that the polarity of the music is off. flip the phase of one channel, please. voice is ok though.

no load on the system but 70°C hot. oh apple :3
