@@Ladle_Lover Exactly. The whole game's story is about Jin becoming the Ghost, seeing ridding the island of the Mongols as being more crucial than keeping samurai honour (the DLC also suggests that his father would have done the same thing). I have seen many people say the kill Shimura option should be canon, but it is like they have completely missed the actual issue Jin is grappling with the whole time. By the end, Jin isn't choosing whether or not to kill Shimura, he is choosing whether he fully metamorphoses into the Ghost or reverts back to being a samurai. It is clear the game is continuously trying to communicate that Jin has seen and done too much to ever go back.
Deep existential death happened in this scene. This is Duel of the Fates, with 3 possible endings. If Shimura succeeded in killing you, he almost certainly would have become an evil person. Something had snapped in him that he let go of his aspiration to be a good person anymore, and just give into the system of the Shogun's tyrannical Code. Half of Shimura wants the Ghost dead, so that order will be restored to Tsushima, but his other half wants to die out of self-hatred and remorse for killing his own son. He says it's not his revenge, but truly he is taking revenge on himself for failing his clan, and everything he dreamed to be. Split down the middle, it only leads to a complete existential crisis: I was the monster the whole time, the very thing I was trying not to be. Very well, I embrace my failure. I am a monster. It's only if Jin stops the fight that Shimura now can't make a claim on his destiny. He gives his life into Jin's hands, and in a symbolic sense must do whatever Jin orders, death or life. Just as you can honor his wish for death, to just end Shimura's suffering, if you pick the spare ending, he essentially honors your wish for him to live. He doesn't kill himself off screen when you leave, he goes back to living life. Shimura feels himself redeemed of being a monster if you kill him. But death isn't the only way to redemption, and sparing him offers him another chance to think things over. Maybe he's not a monster, but he's something else, and he has to keep walking his path of life to find out. Kill is the bitter "redemption", but Spare is the true redemption.

I spared him the first time and I realised as it supposed to be 13th century feudal Japan usually in the samurai Way if someone is spared in a battle basically they’ll have to go to see the Shogun/shogunate to get decapitated or disembowelled as a sign of dishonour
I ended this game yesterday. I knew about the "you have no honor" scene, but I never thought you got to fight Lord Shimura as a final boss. Going full bushido in my next NG+ run to see if things change.
first time i played it, i killed shimura. i didn't emotionally recover from that one, so on my second run, i walked away. both the endings are really fucking painful man. it's like you're weighing shimura's peace of mind with yours when you're making the choice.
its really well done. Neither choice is good, but both put you in a tough decision on who is the one to suffer the most. Sparing Lord Shimura is not having his blood on Jin's hands, leaving him without any family left... But then, Shimura will eventually die from failing Shogun's order, making his death far more tragic. Jin killing Lord Shimura, is where you put Shimura to rest, with honor.... But then, Jin is traumatized, having his family fully gone infront of his own eyes, his own "Father's" blood on his hands. Its really just a choice on who suffers most out of this, and neither is good, making it a subjective matter for the player. The true GOTY

I replay this level everyday I love the msuic and the sadness
Im absolutely convinced Shimura threw this fight to Jin.
I literally did everything and the DLC so i beat him first try no damage. Didn't know people had such a hard time with him. Felt i had to do it perfectly because i throw away the code of honor and conquered the Mongols my way so what could a samurai who failed hope to achieve against me lol
”お前に傷つけられた家名は二度と戻らぬ・・ ''
Thx man i search this version !
Bro: "Im not good at this game"
Also bro the moment he touches the controller:
This is great
TY so much bro I needed this
Damn beautiful, but the duel ends so quickly I can barely make it past the 2nd minute XD
I lost so many time but i didnt get mad,I just could'nt.I was feeling bad for hurting him,I had destroyed his dream,I legit cried the whole time
"give me a warrior's death"
Writing a haiku to this. This game is a masterpiece.
I spared him the first time and I realised as it supposed to be 13th century feudal Japan usually in the samurai Way if someone is spared in a battle basically they’ll have to go to see the Shogun/shogunate to get decapitated or disembowelled as a sign of dishonour
Indeed, but Shimurah probably ran away after being spared.
J'adore le gameplay Ghost of Tsushima et surtout les musiques 🎧 💓🎶♫🎶 💖✨🌸 📻🎶🎵
"And my Head is the Cost.."
"Taking it is my punishment.."
Big W im in love with this soundtrack somehow
"This is your revenge.............. for my failure !"
How can anyone dislike this?
Our final day together, it is beautiful.
The easy way: spam triangle. The epic way: spinning back kick with high kick. Then side kick. And jump kick 😂
I just finished streaming this game !!! It was one of the best games of all time no joke i spared him!!! No choices in that I never wanted to kill him!!!! It stands along bloodborne in the elite division
Find me. in the next life.
I will...
Bro... holy shit, that was like a punch to the gut, I was bawling my eyes out. And the moment Jin says "I will..." Damn...
Beautiful
😢 best game ever i loved it
Bro Kage got me crying in denial
0:50 its usually starts, when shimura is injured enough
“And you are a slave to it!”
*"Now I must continue the Shogun alone..."*
the first three notes scream gundyr
I killed shimura because they asked for a honourable death before that I considered letting them live but I granted what they asked of me
That one dislike is from Lord Shimura.
