ABOUT GHOST OF TSUSHIMA
In the late 13th century, the Mongol empire has laid waste to entire nations along their campaign to conquer the East. Tsushima Island is all that stands between mainland Japan and a massive Mongol invasion fleet led by the ruthless and cunning general, Khotun Khan. As the island burns in the wake of the first wave of the Mongol assault, samurai warrior Jin Sakai stands as one of the last surviving members of his clan. He is resolved to do whatever it takes, at any cost, to protect his people and reclaim his home. He must set aside the traditions that have shaped him as a warrior to forge a new path, the path of the Ghost, and wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima.
ABOUT SHIGERU UMEBAYASHI
Shigeru Umebayashi (aka Ume) was born in Kitakyushu Japan.
He is an internationally renowned film composer, best known for creating ‘Yumeji's Theme’ in Wong Kar-Wai's film In The Mood for Love as well as collaborating with Wong Kar-Wai on 2046. He was the music producer and composer for Zhang Yimou's films House of Flying Daggers and Curse of The Golden Flower and composed the end-title song ‘Lovers’ for the soprano Kathleen Battle.
Ume has proven his versatility in world cinema, working with such directors as Hong Kong's Ronny Yu for Jet Li's Fearless, Italy's Roberta Torre for Mare nero (Dark Sea), Serbia's Uros Stojanovic for Tears for Sale, England's Peter Webber for Hannibal Rising, Germany's Veit Helmer for Absurdistan and British director Sharon Maguire for Incendiary, starring Michelle Williams and Ewan McGregor.

Ilan Eshkeri is an award winning composer, artist, songwriter, producer and creator. Eshkeri’s work is performed in concert halls, theatres, galleries, on film & television and video games; his eclectic body of work is linked by his love of narrative.
Eshkeri’s many creative partnerships include artists such as Annie Lennox, David Gilmour, Sinead O’Connor, KT Tunstall, Tom Odell, Ash and The Cinematic Orchestra. Amongst his extensive catalogue of film & television are multiple Oscar & BAFTA winning films such as Still Alice, Stardust and Shaun The Sheep. Eshkeri has been nominated for an Ivor Novello for ‘The Young Victoria’ as well as a BAFTA for ‘The Snowman & The Snowdog’.
Ilan is currently creating music for A Perfect Planet, his fourth collaboration with the legendary naturalist David Attenborough. Recently, Ilan and Ralph Fiennes completed their third film together - a biopic about Rudolf Nureyev, ‘The White Crow’. This followed the creation of a ballet ‘Narcissus and Echo’, choreographed by famed dancer Sergei Polunin with set designs by David LaChapelle and a ballet commission from Rambert Dance Company.

We may not have won Game of the Year. But we arguably won the most important award. Player’s Choice. The people spoke, and they shouted back that they stand by the Ghost. Much like the game, the Ghost may not have the support of the higher ups for which he was once among, but he has the support of the people. And that’s truly all that we need.
As someone who absolutely loved The Last of Us 2, this game deserved game of the year and more.

@@row5175 At the start he has little emotion because he is trained from childhood to live his life based on morals and honor rather than emotion. As the game progresses he realizes slowly that their codes and honor mean nothing in the face of their enemy, and will not be enough to save the people they've lived generations to protect. And thus, the Ghost is born.

i didn't kill the uncle. by then jin had rejected the samurai code and all it stood for and embraced the title of the "ghost" and its symbolism. the uncle survived cos i don't think jin would kill the only real father figure he ever had in his life (after playing iki island dlc jin's dad is a pretty terrible person). uncle can suck it and live. honour died on the beach.

This game hits diffrent when your going though your parents nasty devorice and your frined makes you buy it and play it and dosent tell you anything about it... but when in real life your father is the bad guy at the end of the devorice. and he put you in the middle of it as a pawn to waste or abuse. But your on your mom's side becuase he tought you to be the man of the house and protect your mother even though he fights you and her. And you have to fight him because. no one wins and the relationship of father is son is at a end it's we as Warriors are just now on diffrent paths... play this game why your going to devorice and your paths are made for you and you have to go along your own path becuase your slave to your father's code of honor but he can't go along side his deeds as they are horrible... but he wants you to do the right thing even if the father and son bond is more broken then a dropped sheet of glass on hard floor... play the game with that mind set let me tell you guys as a 25 year old young man going though this thing with my parents for the last 2 years. I played this game not knowing any of this or how fucken close it was to home... I fucken admit as man I cried hard on this game not for the story but how fucken close it hits me... I am part ghost now.... this game fucken made me lose it the whole fight I was like just let me go in peace I don't want this fight anymore... I kept my sword sheathed for 20 dies and then I came back to the controller drank some rum and had a fight in this game that seemed like what me and my father are going though... shit fucked me rate up when I was supposed to kill him I left him alive I couldn't have the heart to do it

Jin Sakai has been added as one of the most impressive and greatest character in video games history.
Wish he had more personality tho in his expressions but still he was great nonetheless
@@brandonrichardson3610 i think he was shown wantedly lime that. For samurais never express their emotions. If u visit the bath springs(i forgot what they were called in game) he shows his inner thoughts and feelings. With ryuzo he is a bit free and jokes with him. His emotions are subtle and thats what makes him a great character for me.

About 3 and a half years later i came back to this comment, i know the game is now all dried up and probabldy already rather forgotten, at least until they finally show the sequel, soo..i am just going to wait until then, maybe the spark of the sequel will reignite this game again, still an amazing game if you didnt try it, just do it

This game has a subtle detail once you decided to honour lord shimura with a warriors death. Once you stab him with your tanto, you can feel the vibrations in the controller that shows his heartbeat slowing down gradually until it comes to a halt. This game truly pays attention to the minor details giving us the best experience we could receive.

@@archnic9871 I agree. I feel the same way about this as I did about the TLOU1. The endings to both those games are both perfect. There is no need for a sequel, but if there is a ghost 2 in the future, I would have complete faith in Sucker Punch to do it justice but I wonder how a sequel would even work considering the choice you have to make at the end?. I loved this game. I'm so glad that the PS4 ends its cycle with this game instead of the pit of misery that was TLOU2
@@timmurray2945 it was confirmed that the spare route is canon, they still added the kill option for the players
personally chose the kill path to show the last bit of honor
@@brickobrick Whether its canon or not, having Lord Shimura appear in any potential sequel would kill the immersion straight away for players that chose the kill option. Unless, they develop a sequel that has two branches depending on what you decided at the end of the first game. Anyways, getting ahead of ourselves. Any potential sequel would be years away. I also chose the kill option. It just felt right for me.
Historically speaking, that would be possible since the Mongols did make it to Mainland Japan however with Jin being the traitor he is, he's just gonna be hunted by the shogunate so no bueno either way. A prequel though might be possible but it'll be a complete spinoff since the Mongol invasion's first phase was to attack Tsushima. If they're gonna stick to that timeline, it'll be tough.

Jin Sakai will always be one of my favorite protagonists for now on. He is a definite S Tier PlayStation Protagonist and such an amazing protagonist overall.

@@jebb7054 For me it was more impactful to kill shimura since it will mark the end of the game, he is the ghost , he sacrificed every single thing to defend the weak, he needs to suffer to become who he is and by killing shimura, the ghost had finished its transformation. Well it's kind of dilemma beetween if you want to save jin or the ghost, i choosed the ghost because jin died on the beach with its honor

Tbf I think it's worth mentioning that some recent Ubisoft games have had pretty great soundtracks - Far Cry 5 had a bunch of creepy-yet-catchy gospel and country songs to match the rural cult vibe ('Set Those Sinners Free' and 'We Will Rise Again' come to mind), and Watch Dogs 2 had Hudson Mohawke making some cool electronica tunes to match the tech setting (like 'Play N Go' or 'Watch Dogs Theme').
Are we gonna forget the whole assassins creed franchise songs made by ubisoft and stars wars jedi fallen order music by EA??

I feel even without the context of this game's story, the song itself is so powerful on its own. The dynamics and the chords are just so emotional and the singing just adds to it. What a amazing piece of music.

As for games already out, there ain't much but animal crossing. We're only half way through the year but I reckon its gonna come down to between this, cyberpunk, animal crossing. Not sure on AC valhalla, doesn't look anything special.

The melody in this is actually similar to a melody in "Memories of Mother" in the God of War OST. It's also pretty theatrical and heavy, I bet this here was influenced by Bear McCreary's work

I can literally feel the emotional conflict in Jin Sakai from this soundtrack. Anything said about this soundtrack that doesn't describe it as brilliant is injustice
After finishing the game this song hits different.... It perfectly captures Jin’s transformation from an honorable samurai into the ghost (or shinobi).
And then, comes the criation of the world ninja of naruto kkkkkk

I literally finished the game last night, everything about this story is 10/10, Jin’s constant struggle between his honor and the realization that the Ghost is the only way to defeat the Mongols building up to the very end when you fight Lord Shimura, and whether you kill him or not, you realize that their battle represented the struggle between honor and the Ghost, and at that point I was struggling to hold back tears during the credits while this song played; and I will never forgot how much I was affected by your horse’s death after Act II

When this song plays during Jin’s escape and you watch as your horse slowly die, i actually teared up and felt anger towards the Mongols. I believe that this is when Jin truly embraced The Ghost.

When I saw the credits of this game and heard this song, I started clapping in front of my TV.
Of all the games I've played, this was the most true "Movie Like" experience I've ever had. And believe me, I do like Metal Gear Solid and many other movie like/plot heavy games too.
I played the sly cooper games when I was a kid and I thought it was the shit. One of my favourite Platformer series of all time.
I giggled like a kid when I found "The (head)band of the second son" in Tsushima.
I loved the infamous series, when everyone else didnt get it at the time and saw it as a mediocre series.
But I still enjoyed it a lot especially with the powers and the cool characters.
Have you played Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2? This game got its inspiration from that series.

Choosing between honour and becoming the Ghost has been the biggest struggle for Jin throughout the game, this song just reflects on the sacrifice he had to make to save his people
