I was 19 as well when my addiction started. This was back in 2007. Of course fentanyl was on the scene before 2007, but it was a microscopic problem compared to today's fentanyl epidemic. I started out getting prescribed opiates like vicodin and Lortab, and it eventually went up to Roxicet 30mg, which I was 100% addicted to, and were my drug of choice. Those happened to be the same pills that are being counterfeited and people are dying from today.
I am positive that if I started my problem 10 years later, I would have been a goner.
I eventually became a victim to the needle, but now I'm almost 7 years sober.
Now I try to educate as many kids, teens, amd parents as possible.

@Barbara Lee seek a center that'll let you switch to suboxone. That's what i did. Saved my life. The hardest part is induction- trying to find the right dose for a week or so, so that you wouldn't feel withdrawals. 2nd hardest thing is to change your habits. Detoxing far away from home really helped me because I couldn't resort to old habits. You can do it with minimal pain. It's more mental than anything.

They shouldn't; however, not everyone deals with situations the same. You and I could experience the same traumatic situation and grieve properly or work through things. Someone else could experience that same situation and use drugs to numb pain and cope. People experiment, and it grabs a hold of them. We are all human and, therefore, should practice humility. Not making excuses for people using; just going by experience of what I see as a clinical practitioner in this field. It's a daily struggle for some.

People die here everyday, all day and everywhere in every way. Sometimes doing stupid @$$ shit like taking drugs of questionable origins! Heartbreaking? Ok. To whom? The dead idiots or their families that have to pick up the broken shards that an addict leaves behind? Doesn’t matter if it was intentional suicide or not! It decimates families bc addicts are self involved. They’ll steal from ya to get high. They’d sell yo @$$ if it could buy a coupla pills. But drug dealers don’t take mom’s as payment for drugs, do they? No need to bemoan folks that have taken themselves outta the equation here. I hurt and feel for their families. But, on some level, these folks have checked outta reality into delusional thinking and behavior. Death is the great equalizer. The grim reaper never says when he’s coming for ya, nope. You wake up dead. That’s how in death denial people are. I do it. Thinking that I’ll be here for Christmas 2022. That’s a couple weeks away. Why do I put myself there? It ain’t guaranteed.

Their whole entire future gone because of 1 pill. It's so scary. Talk to your kids.. Show them interviews like this and that as much as a few grains can kill. They probably think 1pill would be OK but it's not. Plus the dealers are saying the pills are one thing when it's a different drug altogether and it's not right.. You can't trust dealers. I am the mother of a 40-year-old man named Andrew. He's always been and will continue to be my beloved "man cub." Today he is healthy and married to a lovely young woman with whom he has 2 children. He is hard working, responsible and the love of my life.
The reason I write this, I suppose, is to express the fact that I have never taken this gift for granted. I know that when he was Ryan's age there were temptations, there were wrong decisions, followed by experiences and maturing. I wish Ryan and all our children could have had this opportunity.
I will not forget Ryan's story; thank you for sharing.

They’re trying to help families so they don’t lose their child. I don’t see what more they can do. At this point I don’t see how anyone could shame a parent who’s already lost a child! Just like they said, not my child. There are alternatives such as massage therapy, yoga, acupuncture, etc. So DO NOT LECTURE we health care providers when patients seek opioids constantly, sell them and use them as they want and not prescribed. We have the right to make a living. You don’t like it then STOP seeking opioids.

I’m here to say a lack of pressure in your life is what’s causing that and 9/10 it’s physical pressure. Eating right and exercising consistently is the opposite of depression. But it’s easier for the person and more profitable for the company to have you think it’s something you don’t have control of, but rather the fact you haven’t taken their “magic pill”.
