Corpus Edax is a game my brother is making but I think you’d be one to like it, it’s a RPG with a focus on branching dialog and skill checks à la fallout with an immersive sim design style, melee only, no guns, late Playstation 2 style. I know I’m biased but I genuinely think you might like it. I rarely type comments but in case you read this, thank you for all your videos!
Another lovely vid regarding games I'd not know too much of otherwise. cRPG vet here going back to first PC days of F1 and F2. Picked Pathfinder WotC based solely on this channel, thanks to your praise of PoE2 and several other games you clearly are a person of class and refinement. I fully intend on watching your new player feature-length guide, as well, since my tabletop experience doesn't include any Pathfinder. Be well sir, thanks!
Did you every play dungeon crawlers like Eye of the Beholder or Dungeon Master? Legend of Grimrock 2 is that perfected. I did it alongside replaying Fallout 2 and Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 extended edition.
Hey someone else of similiar background. Bg1 and bg2 were my first crpgs back on PC with the sleeves with multiple discs. Played eye of the beholder and a few other crawlers but couldnt get into them. Like you, i picked up Wotr over Christmas on deep sale and have been loving it. Fallout 1 and 2 never did beat. Bg2 i beat.
While they are bigger games i got my eyes on Tribes 3 and Homeworld 3 demos for tonight/this week. Planned on playing some last night, but heck I fell upon Thronefall which is getting ready for full release and have been on it all night yesterday, such a good game for so cheap - they have a 25% sale going as they will be raising base price when they fully launch.
Recently put about 55 hours into Subnautica until I was like: "Ok, I get it - and I've had enough of this gameloop". Still had fun, but that's enough for me. Already downloaded Indika demo - looks interesting!
Slim pickings for RPGs and games in general in this NextFest, thankfully I have quite a large wishlist (and backlog)! Thanks for highlighting Indika, looks great.
I was waiting for this video. So many demos didnt know where to start and i knew you would find the ones that would appear to me. On a side note. Ran across a game called biomorph. Total departure from what i normally play but a ton of fun. Recommend it.
sword of convallaria is getting slept on because people see F2P and assume the toxic gacha system will ruin it. but i've been playing the TW version and the amount of no energy required, free content that is completely outside the gacha system is insane. there's literally too much to do and it's very fun.
Dont forget Sword of Convallaria, helps scratch that FFT itch for those who are fans of FFT. Though I know tactics is not a popular genre in this channel.
@@MortismalGaming I watched an interview from the developer and he said there will be two versions: one with the gacha system, and the other version will be without the gacha system. If thats true, i would play without the gacha system for sure.
@@MortismalGaming I just rewatched the developer's interview about the game just to make sure: Yes, two versions of the game, the standard single-player journey (without the gacha) its called Spiral of Destinies mode offering and I will quote the developer: " it will offer multiple endings, roguelike elements and completely free from any monetization"
I played that Indika demo and really liked it! Looking foward to the full game release. Besides that one, I also liked another single player game demo called Pacific Drive. Probably though, the best demo in this event, for me, was Dungeonborne. With no time limit and quite a bunch of content for a demo, you can see if that dungeon crawler PvPvE extraction genre suits you without spending a dime. I'm yet to play all the demos I've downloaded, nice Next Fest this one!
I found the demo for Ultros to be really good. The game comes out later this month but the one big question mark around it and its (awesome) unique visual style was how readable it would be during gameplay. The demo did a lot to assuage that worry while also showing that they have something really one of a kind brewing. I also loved the demos for Crow Country and Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, though they technically came before the nextfest. The last two of got on my list to play are Death of a Wish and Monomyth!
Thanks for the video. I'm not too impressed by what I've seen thus far, but doesn't mean it's without its gems. Onward to 300k. All glory to the algorithm.
My highlights from next fest are probably: Homeworld 3, Pacific Drive, Star Trucker, Synergy, Lightyear Frontier, and oddly enough Winter Survival, which I did not think would play half as well or feel half as unique as it does. Its a good year for survival fans for sure.
I highly recommend Meta-Ghost: The Breaking Show if you want sci-fi dystopic Roguelikes. The game absolutely oozes style and is unabashed about its color and personality, and the foundation is rock-solid for engaging combat and replayability.
Emberward: Tower defense game with maze building. Every round you get tetris shaped blocks and you create a route for your enemies. You then place towers on these blocks.
Lightyear Frontier has a very cool demo, and is a survival crafting game ( with multiplayer ) and you are in a big mech, which you upgrade to clean up the planet. Underspace deserves a look, and with the eldritch horror meets freelancer seems like it brings something different to the space genre.
Backpack Battles is a roguelike item collection/comboing management auto battler. And it's more fun than it has any right to be. Ha. I've put dozens of hours into it across multiple Next Fests.
Guild Saga: Vanished World was pretty interesting. A character creator and progression mirrored from Divinity: Original Sin with a art and combat similar to Final Fantasy Tactics. I played an hour with it feeling like 15 minutes
You can try our demo during the Next Fest! "Nuke Them All" is an exciting indie RTS game set to launch in 2024, and we've already released the Demo. It's a unique game in the style of classic golden-era RTS titles like Z, KKND, and C&C Red Alert. The primary objective is to capture flags and territories, speeding up production, upgrading factories, and ultimately destroying the enemy fort!
I had no idea Geneforge 2 had a demo on Next Fest. Spiderweb's games aren't for everyone by any means but they're always narratively impressive. I just wish they'd be able to modernize the graphics and sound designs. They're still making the same looking games they were making ten+ years ago with little change it feels like. But if story is your main motivator for playing cRPG's they're kind of must plays.
Personally intrigued about Tales of Kenzera: ZAU. It's a Metroidvania, but with an African flavor that's hardly ever seen in the medium. It also plays like Outland - if anyone even remembers that game - switching back and forth between different ability sets with the Masks of the Moon and Sun.
If you're interested in a first-person interactive narrative game (also some shooting), I highly recommend checking out "Consortium Remastered". Though much shorter and different themes, the original version of the game competes with VtM Bloodlines as one of my all-time favourites for its immersive world, writing and voice acting.
Geesh. How did you find all these cool titles you mentioned? I cannot say any of those isn't intriguing (if I'm allowed all those negations in one single sentence). I'm already making a list of other people I'll recommend to play this or that specific one of those demos, so I can have an idea about every one of them despite the limited free time I have at the moment. Indies have evolved so much lately, they put most AAA industry to shame. Thanks for your videos!
Great catch with Indika, that story sounds awesome. A few to check out: Chasmal Fear: Has a Bioshock opening but has feel of System Shock Ereben Shadow legacy: Sci Fi stealth which looks amazing Outcast Tales def more in line for your taste as a TRPG but I really did not care for the VA. Still looks and played great, but found it also challenging.
Caribbean Legend looks like an interesting one. Open world pirate rpg that promises a lot of customization. Need to try the demo myself but it’d be interesting to hear your thoughts!
Indika looks really good. It reminds me of old russian and polish films. I can add 2 recommendations: Balatro, a roguelite card game with poker mechanics. And Hollowbody, a 3rd person survival horror.
I downloaded around 30 demos. I'm playing through one by one to see if anything sticks. So far I like Lightyear Frontier, Bore Blaster, Pepper Grinder, Xearz, Demon Spore etc... There is a handful of great games out there, you just gotta find them.
Im aware of the minimalist approach to editing this channel has, but in these kind of videos some text on screen with the games titles would improve the product without adding much production time.
While the premise of Indika is really fresh and interesting, the demo gameplay didn´t really leave me wanting more. The pixelated texts and electronic music seemed like a weird choice to me and what was that snailpaced escape from a dog? Interesting, but this really needs a LOT of work
Do provide the feedback for that snailpaced dog chase, Haha. Fortunately, they have provided an option to switch off the pixel art font, not to a generic font, but to a properly curated font.
Not really a RPG but I highly Suggest Pacific drive. it's basically STALKER + Subnautica there's also an immersive sim title inspired by deus ex called Corpus edax
Guild Saga: Vanished Worlds is a game that looks promising to me, I haven't seen much of it yet, however my initial impression would be budget Divinity, but really that is good enough for me. There is tons of stuff hidden in the world, some of it easily missable, and it makes the world feel more lived in.
And another one I'd recommend is Fragmented City. It's another imsim, but this one is 100% focused on social quests, no combat. Set in a bustling, stylishly presented bird metropolis (yes, bird metropolis), you quickly find yourself investigating a strange cult-like organization called The Fragmentation.
I was half-expecting "100% all Next Fest demos" title
Thanks for mentioning Coridden!
My favourite Steam event is back!
You should definitely check out the demo for Underspace - a spiritual successor to Freelancer that has RPG elements as part of it
Will do. Loved freelancer and privateer.
Thanks; skipped over that one but will check it out now.

Indika is looking great. Definitely prefer story driven to another survival crafting thing. I already have a job :)
wage slave flexing
Survival crafting works really well in my case. Like, I am absolutely terrified of the thought of playing yet another one of those.
Recently put about 55 hours into Subnautica until I was like: "Ok, I get it - and I've had enough of this gameloop". Still had fun, but that's enough for me. Already downloaded Indika demo - looks interesting!
Thanks. I wouldn't mind a second helping of these if you find more that you like. So much fun to explore new games on next fest.
Indika looks really interesting. The one I'm looking forward to is Pacific Drive.
Pacific Drive and Star Trucker were my two standouts this year
Found Coridden on Kickstarter before seeing it here! Played the demo and it's pretty neat. Crown Wars looks right up my alley, too. Thank you Mort.

I got hooked on Pacific Drive...
it's really good. although I kinda wish it had first person animations. would've made the experience more immersive

Have not tried it yet but I saw a video title about the game "FFT meets Divinity Original Sin 2". And the pixel art looks good.
Unfortunately it's a gacha game :c
@@Junnaris What? No? I'd say you must have mixed that up with Sword of Convallaria.

check out Star Trucker as well! truck simulator but in space, enjoying it a lot
Indika is very intriguing! Soulmask reminded me of Kenshi, which ia a game that I'd like to try some day, but it seems ... involved .
Did you cover Geneforge at all? Major deja vu hearing you talk about the series here
The first remaster, not the rest of them
Great!
Crown Wars is the closest thing we can get to a Pathfinder 2e Videogame combat experience just because of the 3 point action system.
Always good to add to the wishlist!
Pacific Drive is one I have my eye on

I liked it, but it being a gacha game is a non starter
A few others.

Holstin
Kingdom of Fallen: The Last Stand

do you know if these demos are only available in this time frame of steam next fest, or if they are still playable after the 12th februar ?
Varies based on the game
Harold Halibut?
Man nobody is paying attention to "Bears in space", underneath a silly fps is an actually good game you know; you can even hadouken with the bear.
I tried out Paradox's "Millenia" but sadly I felt it was ugly and derivative
Maybe one day we get a solid Civilazation competitor

Small personal recommendation for Tribes 3. Such a good game, albeit a bit far from this channel's focus.
