I literally watched this video 5 minutes before I left for class last night and was like, hmm, I could see myself implementing this (1.5 years of training blue belt). So I'm sparing with a team mate and I end up in bottom half guard. I locked up the Kimura Grip but want him to defend it so I tug on it just enough so he hides his arm. Then I "let" my opponent go to side control. Once my leg is free I bridge him over sweeping him. We ended up just like in the video and I was there to finish the submission but time expired. For someone like me I feel like I know a little about a lot and am slowly adding options to positions. Now in bottom half guard I have another "go to." Thank you for another awesome video.
@@KnightJiuJitsu Professor would this also work if the top player uses the Kimura defense where he grabs his own wrist and pulls up getting the kimura on the bottom player? Thanks in advance.
@@concernedcitizen5971 - Theoretically, yes. That's the short answer. Everything can work, and can be countered and counter-countered. The Kimura trap is versatile and effective, but if there is flawed technical execution or timing, the counter will always be available.
I like the back take from this position. The key for me was pushing their wrist into their hip. It helps me with a little more resistance to get the proper rotation. It’s so funny when I hit it just right. The look of shock and awe is funny.
This is awesome! I seem to get to the double wrist lock a lot from bottom half guard but my finishing rate is low. Seeing this has changed my entire outlook of what is possible. Thank you. 🤘🏼
I had the Kimura from side control last night, but our purple belt (I'm white), did the step over and got me with the arm-bar. After watching this video I think I've got more options now. I'll try again on Thursday 😀
Kimura trap has a lot of counters to responses be sure to look up the right counter for positions and to fight the grips every chance you get I'm a 2 yr blue belt and my school focuses on kimura traps
Love this. I always get a armbar from that bottom position. That heel hook and back take are sick. I will definitely be adding these to my game. Thank you 🙏
Hi Coach Eli I watched this a while back and tried the second version you show, crazy because I did it but when I spun around I did not take his back I was able to get into the arm bar. It worked like that but taking the back was tougher in live roll. I’ll try going for the back next time. Anywho, just wanted to say thank you again. 🤙🤙
Nice saddle entry. Nice little detail for the roll is punch it to the belly but once they start stepping around your head you'll have better luck finishing the roll if you punch it between their legs
It can…but it’s also easier to counter for the top person because the bottom leg can act as an anchor point for him to stop the transitions, reversals and sweeps.
With heavier guys I have found it hard to roll them but watching this I think it is because I scoot out too far towards north/south. The detail of being perpendicular and using a bridge may be the extra detail I need!
Kimura is my favorite and I have a ton of success with it, but one of our brown belts will drop his shoulder into the back of my armpit and reverse Kimura me or force me to bail and I haven’t figured out how to counter that. And suggestions
Anymore counters or escapes for when someone locks in that Kimura grip from bottom? I've been getting caught by that by the same guys for weeks. Every time I go for the pass or improve position I get caught and rolled into a tap.
Not exactly hip bump sweep, but kind of. Bridging into the person will often create the necessary space to free the leg enough to complete the transition / reversal.
So I suppose letting them into side is the move here after getting your grips. What if they set the weight back an don't let you get out of half guard?
Definitely can’t do it as smooth as I’m demoing. I usually have to complete the spin and then fight for the space, almost like a dogfight position with the kimura grip still in tact, if that makes sense.
I usually run into people that just stay in my halfguard instead of trying to pass me. What would you do if you grabbed the kimura and your halfguard leg is still trapped inside?

love watching vids before class LOL
I was literally struggling with the finish of this yesterday, I see what I was doing wrong now. Thank you
This is my game! Love it. From bottom half, I also insert a butterfly hook in the opposite side and sweep towards the kimura side.
I have seen this position in many fights, but no one knew how to use this technique on their opponent.
Thank you for sharing the video
That second and third set up are slick.
Too good sir respect for you from India
I can't put this guy on 1.5x speed. 1.25x is my limit. Most RUclipsrs are 1.5-2x, Danaher is 2.5x.

Eli I watch all your videos. Your content is invaluable
Thank you so much!
glad to see you made purple- keep training hard!
🤣🤣🤣
Love the kimura traps!
2:05 ohhhhh thats freaking slick. I know there's a inverted kimura from there didn't realize you could take the back as well
This is awesome! I seem to get to the double wrist lock a lot from bottom half guard but my finishing rate is low. Seeing this has changed my entire outlook of what is possible. Thank you. 🤘🏼
That leglock entry from the spin is sick
Great details!
Great fluid movements!
Truly appreciate the knowledge
Ty fir the short and concise video
Good stuff

Great instruction on the kimura trap…..but that rashie…so dope!

Great stuff, that saddle-entry was totally new for me
Thank you so much for this! This helped me understand this concept so much!!
That was dope! Kimura trap is my favorite position, and getting to that saddle position is definitely trying in tonights class! :D
I kept clicking on the like button but could only give 1. I loved reversing that kimura attempt into an armbar! Nice.
Thank you!
Damn it, WOW!!. First concept to put it in practice next time. Big Thank you for always letting your knowledge flow freely.
Great video I hit this back take the other day almost by accident. Thanks for the break down.
I love this. I really appreciate you teaching me this technique. I love a good kimura. ♡
I like that. Looks like effective way and real
Love it. So, I also love Kimura Trap Setups from top Half or Top Side. and find those a lot.
Really good combination! Thx
I had my first ever submission last week, and it was through kimura. Excited to drill the techniques in this video and get more subs!
I am less clueless. Thank you!

@@KnightJiuJitsu I will. I am doing the first two variations a lot more now. Sometimes it’s tough to clear my legs in half
Can't get enough Kimura's !!!!!!!!!!
Excellent explanation and techniques as always 👏
Thank you!
You are great bro in your techniques and conceptions about kimura I liked it. Save from brazil my friend
great video
Thank You Paul! Shoutout to all the Seagalians!
I love how you had to stop for a brief moment just not to say “shit” gold.
good stuff! Thanks!
This is fire! Fire! Fire! Fire and Fire! I will definitely use it
That's freakin awesome.

excellent techniques. I follow you a lot. greetings from mmaturkey.
What kind of red spats or legings are those, there dope
Thanks!
You just told to watch out for the armbar but didn't show a counter to that armbar or at least how to prevent it?
Great stuff
Thank you
Brilliant
Thanks a Lot, you're amazing this videos really helping me alot. Since I just started 6 months ago.
I’m happy to hear that! Thanks for watching them.
Awesome thanks!
GAME CHANGER
Can this also be hit if I stay in the knee shield position without letting him pass to side control?
It can…but it’s also easier to counter for the top person because the bottom leg can act as an anchor point for him to stop the transitions, reversals and sweeps.

I have a video on countering submissions with submissions on my channel I put up recently that has a couple
@@KnightJiuJitsu thank you sir. I'll check it out
What if he doesn't try to pass to side control and your leg is stuck in half guard? Would you just try to hip-bump sweep?
Not exactly hip bump sweep, but kind of. Bridging into the person will often create the necessary space to free the leg enough to complete the transition / reversal.
Thank you very much!
Can you reverse the Kimura reverse or does that mean pulling a kimura is just ultimately risky?
So I suppose letting them into side is the move here after getting your grips. What if they set the weight back an don't let you get out of half guard?

Gracias profesor 👍 a rolar
Still working to the saddle position personally. Any tips on how you are getting the leg in? We are basically same height etc (Kenton 🤙🏽)

1:31 Pull that shi.. uh elbow back to me
Like it before I watch it.. Because I know...
🙏🙏🙏
What’s the go to move if they do not try and pass, they just sit back and grab their arm to defend against the pry ?
That starts at 1:57 or so.
