The book is incredible, but, truly, an endeavor. If you can’t manage it then this is the next best thing - and it’s a story not to be missed.

Amazing adaptation! Always amazing Gillian Anderson!
As Lady Dedlock she earned her 5th Emmy and Golden Globe nomination for best actress in 2006. :-)

I'm bingeing on it at the moment
It was on our book list for A'level and I never read beyond half of it because the teacher hated Dickens.... It's wonderful 40 years on. Great cast, sets, production etc Shake me up 😂

Never been able to get into Dickens until I watched this series. Like others, I have binged on it and have started reading the novel and although it has come a little late in my life, I realize what a genius he was. As for the BBC production (happily made before box ticking became compulsory) it is sublime, or as the Americans say 'awesome.' Must mention Gillian Anderson and Charles Dance who are both superb, but also the rest of the cast are quite magnificent. If you have a chance to buy, borrow or steal this boxset, do so, you won't regret it.

Okay, this series might be good or bad, I haven't seen it yet. But, "FInd out why Gillian Anderson is so bored", what kind of tagline is that?

stirling It’s actually the official one lol. The same video showed up in the trailers section for another bbc miniseries I have on DVD. I agree, it’s a pretty bad tag line. They were probably just trying to attract Gillian Anderson fans I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love the headline in this trailer that says "Find out why Lady Dedlock is so bored" - it just tops her little speech about her home and the weather and makes her bleak demeanor sound both intriguing and hilarious all in one. Like, it just sums up a woman so burnt out on life in such a classy sarcastic manner that I don't know, maybe she drops like a brick at the end because she's gone beyond boredom and burnout that there's barely anything of her left. At least she doesn't actually burn from the inside out like Mr. Crook. Now for a woman so far gone and burnt out on life that would have been spectacular - Gillian Anderson might have looked like a really tired lady with the stoic dragon face literally burning out in her boredom. I hope I never get as bored because I'd rather not end up like Lady Dedlock if I can help it.

I saw the whole series of Bleak House in 2005 . I did not recognize or realize Lady Deadlock was played by Gillian Anderson until a few years later ! She did lose her youthful baby fat since her early x files days. As she's aged she's become beautiful . I doubt she had "cheek bone" augmentation because it almost always turns out horrible. I've seen pictures and video of so many famous people and actresses after cheekbone plastic surgery look awful .

Usually watching the movie or mini-series is a disappointment after reading the book. BUT this mini-series is utterly suburb. The plot of Bleak House is so complicated and the book is so long and intimidating that I suggest to people to watch this first then read the book because you'll be able to follow the plot in the book if you've watched this mini-series. I can't say enough good things about this adaptation. Easily my favorite Dickens ever.

As a die-hard fan of the BBC/ATV/Granada ‘60s-80s drama (including soap) series (shot mainly in studios, a feature which I find cozy), I couldn’t watch more than 5 minutes of the first episode of this series which I regret buying on DVD (the earlier BBC adaptations being currently discontinued). Directors obsessed with moving the camera constantly, TV filming which looks like cinematic filming, and (above all) interminably dysfunctional, Muzak-like soundtracks (RIP Carl Davis and Co.) and horrendous sound effects which ruin our involvement in the dialogues throughout. Doomsday is surely near.
