  • Hello! I hope you enjoy this video on developing a daily practice to take your watercolor (or any) skills to the next level! I love painting on location / en plein air.. and it's really important that it's easy and hassle-free. Not every painting session needs to be "grand" and it's fun to find beauty in the ordinary things all around us :)

Thank you gor the inspiration to paint outdoors with a small kit and the goal of being quick and not standing out. I'm very shy also!😊

You're so right! Our artwork looks so much better later. It's like when you've been cooking. Your own cooking doesn't taste that great right away, but if you come back later, or even the next day it tastes fabulous 😄

Impressive yet simple ideas for keeping your pallet in place. I'm making a similar pallet for my granddaughter. Waiting for the last tube of paint to arrive, then of course dry in the pan so it can be shipped halfway across the nation.

That was excellent!!! Thank you! Would you mind please telling me which colors you are using? I can’t quite tell if you are using all cools or warms for your primaries. Oh, and also which waterbrush are you using? I have a few but yours seems like all one piece as a reservoir. Additionally, which mechanical pencil are you using? Thanks, again.

Can you please tell me a little about the carbon/tracing paper you use to transfer your sketches to your watercolour paper?

    • @RMB.Atelier

Hi Cynthia! Yes, it's just called "carbon paper." It very cheap and usually available with office supplies or online. There is nothing special about it for artists. But when it is new, you have to test how much pressure to apply because it can come out very dark. I try to use a very light pressure so my lines are not too dark. I hope that helps!

Your Altoids tin looks effective. What did you use as an insert to hold and separate your colours? And it appears you have a couple of magnets to affix it to your book. Can you please talk about your set-up for plein-air? Thanks

For the colors, I have a bunch of watercolor half pans that can be bought empty and then filled with the colors of your choice. I found a bag of 48 half pans for about $7 so it was a good buy! And they actually came with tiny adhesive magnets so they stay in place inside the Altoid tin. The magnet that I use to keep the tin in place on my sketchbook is just a regular magnet, but stronger than the typical refrigerator magnet. I'll link both items here:

How does the tin stay attached to your sketch book?

I am using a magnet on the other side of the page :) I think you'll see it toward the beginning of the video. I will try to feature that more :)
