I’ve been watching Z vs F mount lens reviews for the past few days and I must say I was pleasantly surprised at the no-nonsense approach and the sheer amount of useful information on this video, well done!
Thank you for being an exception to the negative, sensationalized/theatrical camera/lens reviews that always seem to flood this site, and thank you for the detailed overview. The Z7ii has made upgrading to mirrorless seem worthwhile for me, and this was exceptionally helpful!
As always a very informative video - thank you very much! I recently switched from a Nikon D750 to a Nikon Z6 with the kit lens; I use the adapter heavily with all my old Nikon glass (focus peaking helps a lot).

I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you and your family the best in these difficult times.

An excellent informative explanatory video. Totally enjoyed your presentation, clear to the point, right in focus.........thankyou I subscribed and will look for other videos you have uploaded. A big thumbs up.👍
Maarten, one important feature I always look forward to, is Lens Lock button, which you have not discussed at all with any of these lenses. Can I take it that none of the Nikon lenses you have talked about in this video have them? As always, a thorough and quality discussion about the lenses and thank you.
While that's a useful feature for longer lenses that tend to glide out on their own, neither of the zooms in this roundup have them and I didn't miss it.
Maarten, You are always precise, concise, kind, professional and knowledgeable. Thank you for your wonderful videos! Best to you from Phoenix, AZ 😀🌞🌞 Rick
Maarten, your channel is becoming my reference channel for anything related to the Z series cameras. Thanks for your useful informations and professional videos, really, an excellent work. I own a number of cameras (Nikon D610, D750, Fuji X-PRO2 and X-T3, Canon 5D MKIII, a number of good lenses too, ...) included the Z6 I bought a few months ago. I am using Lightroom Classic CC v8.3 (still on MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 on a mid 2011 iMac), I recently updated the camera profiles to the V2 versions from Adobe (mistake with the white balance interpretation when importing a NEF into Classic CC). This morning, while stuck at home with that awful Covid-19 virus, I played a couple of hours in my garden and around the house with the Z6. I am working only in NEF / RAW files, RAW lossless compression, sRGB color profile, no active d-lighting (OFF), very basic settings... And I still cannot find the way to have that proper blue sky you have up above the Royal Ontario Museum on that video. With those V2 camera profiles skies are always a bit on the pinky side and I don't like it that much, things are better when I use the Adobe Color or Adobe Standard V2 profile inside Lightroom CC. Could you tell me what is your own developing process ? The blue skies on your Flickr page are what I wanted to have myself, I surely missed something somewhere but I can't really telling what is wrong. Maybe a new iMac with the latest MacOS Catalina and the latest Lightroom Classic CC will help ? Regards from Belgium, cheers.
So sorry to hear you've caught the virus, and I hope that your recovery is fast and complete. It's typically not the process, it's the sky - it's not always as blue as it appears. To improve (deepen) the sky, expose down, keeping the sky under 90% (away from the right). Highlight metering can help. Or just underexpose - according to the matrix meter, all of those shots are at least 1 stop underexposed. And even though I used identical settings on the same camera, and these are all out of camera settings with the standard profile, the two lenses provided slightly different results - which I attribute to the lack of equivalence in F stops (as I said, an F stop is the size of the aperture, the more accurate T (transmission stop) measures the amount of light passed. Hope this helps. Please say hello to all my friends in Belgium once the isolation is over.
I purchased the 2.8 and sent it back. After a couple hundred test photos I can certainly say the f4 version is as good and even better at certain aperatures. I don’t need 2.8 personally but there’s no way I could ever justify the price difference.
Thank you. I'm planning to upgrade to a Z6ii soon and have been undecided about the 24-70 mm f/4 S or just an ftz. Your video is helping me to decide to get the lens when I invest in the body.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thanks Maarten. Love your videos! Quick question, I'm thinking of purchasing a new lens for my Z6. I have a 85mm 1.8g already adapted to it, so I want a wide angle prime. I have my sights on the 24 1.8s and also the 35 1.8s. Which one would you suggest?
@@bookphile870 Thanks for the kind words. What do you intend to shoot? For the widest angle, clearly it's the 24, if you want wider than that the 14-30 does get really wide.
@@MaartenHeilbron I'm looking more towards video on the lens. I already have a good setup for photos with the 24-70 f4s and the 85 1.8G adapted. I need something light, compact enough for a gimbal and more centered towards depth of field rather than the widest focal range available.
Excellent content as always Mr. Heilbron. I don't believe I have mentioned before now, but it was your review of the Nikon D500 that gave me the best analysis to not only decide to purchase the camera, but to get so much more out of it in terms of navigating the menus and so on. I watch all your videos no matter the brand even though I shoot Nikon, because of your attention to detail and obvious understanding of the technology both in terms of where it is now and where it came from. So, although I have thanked you for your content in the past let me take the opportunity to say thanks for helping me to become a better photographer and videographer in sharing your understanding of the discipline. Cheers
Which would you buy next if you own the 14-30, 24-70 and the 50 mm z lenses, being a landscape photographer and some events video shooter? Of course I own many f mount lenses including a 70-200 VRII, 80-400...I would need a second prime for video wider then the nifty fifty and it is hard to choose between the 35,24 and 20...;)
Nice vid lots of detail. I own many many gold ring f-mount lenses and take my D6 and D850s when I go on safari. While I own a Z7 I use an FTZ to allow me to use my f-mount lenses on it. Today I bought the first 2 S-mount lenses. The 40/2 and the 24-70/2.8. I will add a 70-200/s when it is available. This decision followed my ordering a pair of Z9s last week and a pair of FTZ-IIs. Having read the development announcement for the 400/2.8S I am looking forward to buying one when it is released. The 600/4S will replace my current E-FL version. This will mark my shift to purely mirrorless shooting when I go to Kenya (assuming the system works well) otherwise I will continue to use my f-mount gear. I have no plans to replace any of my other f-mount lenses - they are not used for action or sport or I use the focal length rarely.
Very comprehensive Z lens introduction, I am a long term Nikon F user and I was hesitate to move to Z Cameras due to high Z lens prices. My recent search found that the Nikkor Z85mm F/1.8S outperform all current Nikkor 85 and even the latest 105mm F/1.4 lenses (I don't like Sigma which are too heavy). So, the better lens quality for F/1.8 is still an affordable solution if I shall upgrade my cameras. Thank you again!
@@MaartenHeilbron I want to have the best 85mm Z lens for my Pre-Wedding Photography, I'm currently using D750+ 85mm/F1.8D lens. The Nikkor 85mm F1.4 or F1.8G are not a much better lens than mine. Other better portrait lenses are the Nikkor 105mm F1.4 and Sigma, but they are too heavy and expensive. Then, I search that Nikon did a fundamental new designs for all Z lenses, which are more costly, still, the F1.8 Z lenses are affordable to me.
This was a very informative video. I have a couple of Z mount lenses and a whole raft of F mounts used with my D500. I find with the adapter, I can use most with satisfactory results and while the Z series is best for my camera, the lenses are still very expensive to buy unless one can write them off as a business expense but I'm not a professional and am retired. It took me awhile to go to a Z series camera and I opted for the Z50 as it suits most of my needs (plus I have the D500). It's a sweet camera and the more I use it, the more I like it.
Thank you for another great video about the Z, you helped me out with the settings/focus video and now with the lenses. I think I will buy the 85 mm, already got the 24-70 f4. What do you think, will Nikon make a 70-200 F4, the 70-200 2.8 is a bit expensive for a hobbyist.....😢 Or third party lenses, Tamron isn’t making them now
Very informative video. I have a question. As we can see, the kit lens they provide with the camera and the newer 24-200 lens both have f4 at 24mm. When we are shooting at 24mm, do the lenses provide same result or is there any significant difference?
Thanks for your kind words. I have an answer. The optics may be similar, but are not identical, there is a difference. Whether or not you perceive or appreciate the difference is not a judgement I can make. In my opinion, the difference would not be significant.
Mr. Maarten thank you for your review of the Nikon Z glass I want to get into the mirrorless camera ecosystem and I think the Nikon Z series will suit me as I can shoot video and stills but I had no idea what lenses they have, as I have only a canon SLR. Your videos are very good! If you want to make a more "geeky" deep dive I would watch it.
Thanks for your very kind words, always nice to know that my viewers appreciate my work. And while I appreciate the request, that's about as geeky as I'm going to get on camera.
@@MaartenHeilbron thanks for the link. Just watched that one. Finally someone acknowledging the "developers" behind all that computational stuff, not just in photography but also in various fields.
Hi Maarten, Can I ask your advice? I shoot houses, interior and exterior with my Nikon Z6. For this I use the 14-30mm f4, and I get great results. But I want to buy a second f-lens for shooting close ups and great details in interiors. Which lens do you recommend? Thx for the great videos!
both the Nikkor DX 16-50 and the Nikkor DX 50-250 change in how close you can get to the object during zoom in. For couriosity you will not get the object the largest to your image by zooming in to the maximum. For the Nikkor DX 16-50 it is around 34 mm focal length where you get the object the largest on our photo when you focus to it as close as possible. For the Nikkor DX 50-250 it is around 160 mm focal length.
You have a way with words to explain technical specs and features for easier understanding. Your reviews are the best on you tube. I have a question for you. Which 24-70 zoom lens would you rate as the better overall performer, the f4 or the f2.8? With the covid19 situation, do take care when you are outdoors doing reviews.
Thanks for your kind words, and for your concerns. I'm being a careful social distancer, washing my hands and being careful not to touch my face. I would rate the F2.8 as the better lens - however, it takes some pixel peeping to figure that out.
@@MaartenHeilbron Hi Maarten. I too, am considering the Z7 and trying to decide if the 24-70 f/2.8 S would show enough of a difference in image detail at a 24" x 36" print output (shot at around f/8), over the 24-70 f/4 S, to warrant the almost 3x the price. Thanks again for the excellent lens reviews!
Hi Maarten, great video. Thanks for sharing. Very well explained. I would like to have your recommendation on a new Nikon camera to upgrade my gear. I am a Nikon since many years (D7100, Sigma 18-35 f/1.8), and I am interested in a full frame format camera as to be my 1st one. I mostly do street photography, portraits, travel, etc. Do you recommend the Z6 over the D780? I pretend to keep my crop sensor D7100 as well. Thanks in advance for your advice!
I have often tried to shoot after my battery was empty and card is full and even without a card. Would I benefit from a different camera? Perhaps I am meant for a pinhole camera. I love my Z7 and this video was, as usual, fantastic.
Hey Maarten (or viewer), do you know a solution for a lightweight hiking tele-zoom for the Z6? :) I would use the 50-250 DX if I owned the Z7 but 10 MP with the Z6 aren't enough ... I watched all your setup/configuration videos btw - they are excellent!
I have a Nikkor z 24-70 f/4 and when removing the accumulated fungi I accidentally broke one of the flat cable tapes. Don't know where I can buy another one? Thanks
Thank you for the content like this ... extremely hard to get this type of valuable information... specially nowadays in RUclips on specific to some Nikon camera Model ... this is a such a nice video .. learnt a lot ..
Beste Maarten, an excellent video as always. I have the 24-70 F4 lens and am looking to expand with a wide-angle lens. So I am hesitating between the 20 mm 1.8 (although I expect delay with the Corona virus) and the 14-30 f4. I am inclined to go for the prime as it is faster and therefore better for indoor shooting with natural light. On the 14-30 I would be able to get some more width. Any advice on how to come to a conclusion on that?
The larger threat diameter(thread) and shortest flange focal distance permit lenses with larger apertures and better optical quality. Nikon has the shortest 16mm flange focal distance and the larger thread diameter(threat) 55mm of of all APS-C and full frame cameras. That's gives Nikon an advantage. Also with the very short flange focal distance Nixon Z mount cameras can accept Sony e-mount lenses with the Techart autofocus E to Z mount adapter. Users of Nikon Z mount cameras can attach E-mount lenses without loosing autofocus or focus to infinity.
I am switching to the Z series for the first time with the Z6 II. Do you think it is worth buying the FTZ adapter and being able to continue using some old FX lenses? Or should I rather upgrade to the Z lenses? I do have a limited budget, which is why I thought it might be better for me to use the adapter.
The adapter isn't very expensive, and it is a good started point that enables you to use your existing lenses. However, you will find improvement when you can switch to Z lenses.
An excellent review! I always enjoy your reviews Mr. Heilbron! As far as I remember, I had found your channel when I was looking for reviews on the Epson SC-P600. I hope that Epson will also send you the new model, the SC-P700, to provide us with your detailed opinion.
Evening Maarten. I'm a big fan of your channel. Some of the most knowledgeable reviews on all of YT. I've watched/read every review of both the 24-70 f4 and the 50 f1.8. On the verge of a Z6 purchase. I'm a hobbyist going to FF for the first time. I will definitely get the FTZ adapter for my f mount super-telephoto as I love wildlife photography. I've read that the 24-70 gets autocorrected in Light Room (some sort of agreement with Nikon). If you don't use LR is it better to get the 50 mm? I've seen no mention of it requiring CA and vignette issues that need this auto correction in post processing. I'm looking for a general purpose lens.
Thanks for the kind words. Lightroom has specific support for many lenses for many manufacturers, typically the changes are minor - mostly vignette correction. This is useful only for RAW, as these are adjustments that Nikon already bakes into their JPEG images. Both are good lenses - are you looking for a variable focal length or a larger aperture?
@@MaartenHeilbron that's the next question. My current aps-c camera is 10 yo and produces unusable images at ISO above 1000. I'd love to try astrophotography so the big aperture appeals. I do a bit of landscape so later in the golden hour at twilight or even blue hour I'd like to get more correct in the camera and rely less on ISO even though I've read the Z6 is a low light performer. But general walking around e.g. on vacation the zoom gives versatility but with less moving parts I think the prime will be more durable long term. They haven't been around long enough to say the extra twist in the kit 24-70 will end up an issue. I have 2 wide angle DX lenses I'd like to try out (if they don't work out I believe I'd trade both in for something else but that's another set of decisions LOL). As a kit lens they are basically the same price but if I want the 24-70 later it jumps from C$800 to C$1250. So if you can't tell yet I'm stuck in a bit of a "paralysis by analysis". I don't expect you to untie all these knots but I do thank you for answering my initial question. I think when the Henry's near me opens Thursday I'll do some hands on to see how much I like the twist.
@@MaartenHeilbron thanks Maarten. Z6 + 50mm yesterday. Sorry you had to see the convoluted thought process my brain defaults to when I need to make a decision! Have a great weekend!
Hello Marten, you seem very knowledgeable on the Nikon z cameras. I've noticed that when I shoot in log 10-bit through HDMI to my Ninja V (prores lt), there is an extreme amount of noise in the shadows regardless of lighting and exposure. Have you noticed this as well? Is there a work around? Does it have to do with color gamuts of the Ninja V and Final cut pro (standard vs full)?
It's kind of by design. The expectation is that you will make adjustment to the recording in post (colour grading, etc.) to make those artifacts less visible. I'd recommend that you watch this - ruclips.net/video/hZZlc8GaFbg/видео.html
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you so much, that was incredibly helpful. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one with this issue. Recently shot a wedding where the outdoor shots were completely blown out in the highlights, in the indoor shots were really dark. Adding the luck preview to the ninja makes all the difference, but like you said in the video "one stop can the difference between completely blown out in too dark." Manual edits for me for now on, the lot is not the best way to grade in my opinion. But it is useful for the Ninja preview.
awesome I am requesting you to make a video for Nikon z50 best setting for videos and photos Is that possible for you I shall be grateful to you. I have started my vlog chennal and using my z50 camera for that.
If you've watched the Nikon Z7 best settings for video - ruclips.net/video/HamkDcFqlAo/видео.html that should cover it, otherwise, please post a follow up question.
While I appreciate the suggestion, that's a complicated project. But let me summarize: All DX lenses are of substantially lower quality than FX. While Z-S lenses have a small advantage in several ways, for most work the best F lenses are closely equivalent.
@@MaartenHeilbron Currently only NIkon 24-200mm Z lens. This is my first full frame camera. I shoot Street, Architectural and Suburban landscape (until my card is full and battery empty). I do enjoy your videos.
I use the Z50, lenses 16-50 and 50-250. which of the two lenses should I buy, 35mm or 50mm? mostly i love street photography .. i don't have enough money for a more expensive lens.
I tried using my 50mm 1.8 G lens on my Z7 but I found the focus was not as accurate as my 24-70 F4 Z lens. I was shooting portraits with eye detection, and my success rate with the F4 lens was noticebly better. Have you found this with the FTZ adapter F lens combination?
I don't really have a lot of experience with the FTZ adapter - as I had the Z lenses, I only shot with it to create some comparisons. I thought the adapter worked as well as any adapter, but as I said, it's never the equal of native glass. If the focus is always similarly/slightly off, there are settings to compensate for that.
Thank you Maarten, for the detailed information on the Z mount lenses. I have a basic question on choosing between 24-70 F2.8 vs. F4 lenses: An F2.8 lens is said to give an an extra stop of light, but the depth of field is significantly reduced at F2.8. So this added benefit is not really useful if we desire a deeper depth of field. Is this correct?
Thanks, a pleasure to read your kind words. Most photographers would prefer to have a wider aperture and a shallower depth of field in order to create portraits (or other photographs) with a defocussed background, which helps to draw attention to the subject.
@@karunakar8255 Unless all the objects you want in focus are far away (10m or more), a wide aperture will always provide a small depth of field, thanks to the physics of lenses. Although smaller sensors (like micro four thirds) will always have a greater depth of field at a comparable aperture (again, physics).
Hi, can you kindly make a video about the differences of using native Z-mount lenses on Nikon Z5/6/7 series over F-mount lenses by using FTZ adapter, otherwise I would be so thankful if you could send me some reliable resources or articles to study. Regards, Ali
As always, it is a dope information, much appreciated. I too live in Toronto recently got Z6 kit with Gimble as a gift, would love to hang with you as an assistant and learn a thing or 2 from you.
I appreciate your kind words. Thanks for the kind offer - I can use some assistance from time, please send me a DM (my email is in the description) when some of our current restrictions ease and it feels safe.
Do you believe that we will get some new Z DX lenses in the near future (for the Z50)? (Affordable) wide angle and prime still missng and also not on the roadmap. Sigma also doesn't give us positive signals.
Why wait for native when you can get affordable f mount dx lenses which are cheap as chips but very good in quality and performance... I have z6 and I'm happy to use ftz
Hi Maarten. An excellent video and comparison, sir! As a recent convert to the Nikon Z System from the Fujifilm X-System (APS-C), my main reason for the switch is that I often print very large (30" x 40"), and while I was generally pleased with the sharpness and overall image quality I was getting with the Fuji kit, I found my wanting even better sharpness and detail in large prints. The Nikon Z7 with the awesome Nikkor S lenses (and the FTZ Adapted F NIkkors such as the Nikkor AF-P 70 - 300 f/4.5-5.6) fill the bill quite nicely! A question please...Have you noticed any difference in the sharpness level of each lens at say, f/8? One reason I went with the Nikkor S 50 f/1.8 (while also using the Nikkor S 24 - 70 f/4, is the glowing reviews I've read on the Nikkor S 50 f/1.8, some comparing it favorably to even the $5,000 Zeiss Otus, in terms of image sharpness! I really wanted to see that level of detail, but frankly, so far, I've not noticed a "significant" difference between it and my other lenses. Thoughts? Thanks again!
While I appreciate your confidence, I honestly don't have the tools (or patience for that matter) to do that kind of detailed technical analysis. Maybe DXOMark?
Do you think N. will produce higher end lenses for the Z50? I want smaller, lighter, faster lenses in a premium Z50. I’m fauxtog only! I can’t even spell vvid. Old essential tremor hands. I need IBIS. I would really like an APSC Canon RP with IBIS, a better sensor, and a better battery with RF APSC glass. The last time I really loved a camera was my Asahi Pentax 6x7! 8x10s and 11x14s with almost no cropping! The Z50 has a lot to love, but I’m not convinced Nikon is serious about it. This last update excluding animal eyeAF offends me. Ugh!
Honestly, who knows? But they have no provided high quality crop lenses for F mount over several decades, so I don't think the odds are on our side with this hope. If you want better glass, the full frame Z-S lenses are excellent.
Very informative.I am about to buy a mirror -less Nikon Z50 and wanted know which lenses are appropriate for my use. Would I require to switch my lessened to z lenses.
Nope. With the FTZ adapter you can continue to use your F lenses. Nikon's DX lenses (the less expensive ones designed for this crop body) are inferior to their FX lenses.
I wish that it had been available for review, however, I expect its quality to be similar to the other Z-S primes and that it would be useful for portrait work - the typical application for 85mm FX lenses.
Only one of my Nikon F lens with autofocus can use it via adapter with Autofocus on Z6. Sigma 24-70 2.8 cant use AF, Tamron 17-50 also cant. Just 50mm 1.4 Nikkor can use it, so to use Autofocus I should buy new Z mount lens :( Prime 2.8 is too expensive for me, so kit lens for now is best choice. And most sad is that Sony A7m3 can use both of my Lenses with AF with cheap Viltrox NF-E adapter, that is two times cheaper than FTZ. Nikon Z6 is very nice camera, better than A7m3, but AF features cant be used with non-nikon F lenses, also Sigma Art lenses, this situation is not good :(
Holy cow. Thats how you teach a 1 month class in a day. Rewind and pause are your friends friends. Please MH, show the other million RUclipsrs how to present information.
The primes are still huge compared to their excellent predecessors. Is this tendency for lenses and cameras to keep getting larger inevitable? I don't like it. My OM4 with a 50mm 1.4 feels like a snowflake in comparison.
I am not - the cameras (and lenses) I review are on loan. As I've been doing this for some time, I do have a good understanding and familiarity with Nikon cameras. Do you have a specific question about some aspect? Thanks to the pandemic I still have the Z7 at hand.
Yes, fine. I'm working on the Fujifilm X-T4, but process is slow in these times where less is possible and everything takes longer. Thanks for your concern - also hoping that all is well with you.
The new lenses are in general heavier than their ancestors. I prefer a sturdy camera and light short lenses; for me it's a joke that a 1.8/50 weighs such a lot - it could remain below 200 g (of course NOT with so much digital gimmicks). That's why I continue with DSLR, sans miroir will never become my choice.
I own the Z50 and the two lens. I have an older Nikon 80-400 . It does not work. I was told just the AFS lens of Nikon. Also a Tokina 100 mm f 2.8 lens . those lens work fine on my 7100 and 7500,
If you have a problem with unlocking some of the lenses, than don't lock them, problem solved. So you think the advantage of less room used in a bag isn't one.
What??? With the large opening they let through more "light" than most. Quality, which includes taking the time to do it right and using the best materials is always expensive. If cost is your only objective, maybe you should consider another brand.
@@MaartenHeilbron cost isnt my only consideration - its more cost relative for what u get. an 50mm 1.8 doesnt sound extreme exiting to me. i bought a sigma art 50mm 1.4 ef for 500€ used and i ask myself, is this new 50mm s lens better in any way? nikon made such a big thing about their new bigger mount, so i expected more interesting lenses to come out. perhaps a 50mm 1.1 or something like this. they dont look hich quality to me either... so my question was, what am i missing - why are ppl paying so much for these relatively standard lenses?

Is the 24-70 2.8 worth upgrading from the F4 version? TIA
Depends on your budget and your needs, as well as your level of satisfaction with the F4 version.
I purchased the 2.8 and sent it back. After a couple hundred test photos I can certainly say the f4 version is as good and even better at certain aperatures. I don’t need 2.8 personally but there’s no way I could ever justify the price difference.
@@sh1209macro Thanks for adding that perspective.
@@sh1209macro if you only need a daylight lens then yes the f4 is great. The 2.8 would help in event settings.

Thank you for this well-paced and informative overview.
Always nice to know that viewers appreciate my work, thanks

Thank you for posting your kind comments, always nice to hear that my videos are appreciated.
Which would you buy next if you own the 14-30, 24-70 and the 50 mm z lenses, being a landscape photographer and some events video shooter? Of course I own many f mount lenses including a 70-200 VRII, 80-400...I would need a second prime for video wider then the nifty fifty and it is hard to choose between the 35,24 and 20...;)
Wow. Sounds like you're already over-equipped.
Excellent plan, thanks for sharing
Very comprehensive Z lens introduction, I am a long term Nikon F user and I was hesitate to move to Z Cameras due to high Z lens prices. My recent search found that the Nikkor Z85mm F/1.8S outperform all current Nikkor 85 and even the latest 105mm F/1.4 lenses (I don't like Sigma which are too heavy). So, the better lens quality for F/1.8 is still an affordable solution if I shall upgrade my cameras. Thank you again!
What's the reason driving you to a Z model?
@@MaartenHeilbron I want to have the best 85mm Z lens for my Pre-Wedding Photography, I'm currently using D750+ 85mm/F1.8D lens. The Nikkor 85mm F1.4 or F1.8G are not a much better lens than mine. Other better portrait lenses are the Nikkor 105mm F1.4 and Sigma, but they are too heavy and expensive. Then, I search that Nikon did a fundamental new designs for all Z lenses, which are more costly, still, the F1.8 Z lenses are affordable to me.
@@ipadwong9507 I see. I'm not sure that you'll see a dramatic difference - that already sounds like an excellent combination.

Hi,
Which lens would you use for portrait shots?
And scenic shots ?
Thanks
For portraits 50 or 85mm. For scenic probably 14-30.
Always nice to hear from a photographer who's made the right choice, thanks for taking the time to comment, and for your kind words.

Hi Maarten,
Can I ask your advice?
I shoot houses, interior and exterior with my Nikon Z6. For this I use the 14-30mm f4, and I get great results. But I want to buy a second f-lens for shooting close ups and great details in interiors.
Which lens do you recommend?
Thx for the great videos!
I appreciate your kind words, thanks.
The 24-70 is likely your best bet - but for real closeups, you might want an extension tube.
a flange is also the collective noun for a group of baboons. excellent review on the z mount glass :)
Wow. I hope I don't accidentally confuse the two.
both the Nikkor DX 16-50 and the Nikkor DX 50-250 change in how close you can get to the object during zoom in.
Correct, thanks for adding this detail.

Thanks, I appreciate your kind words.
Both are valid points, you will have to decide which is most important to you.
Thanks, I thought I was clear about those in the video, but thanks for reinforcing.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you very much! This helped s lot!

Thanks, your kind words are appreciated. I have not heard from Epson in a long time.

Thank You Maarten, another helpful video.
My pleasure, always nice to hear from an appreciative. viewer.
Thank you for confirmation. I was wondering if there is some technique to get a deeper depth of field, even with a wider aperture :)

Oh wow, I might be the first viewer. But I want to ask whether I should save up for an a6400 or buy an a6000 right now?
Thanks for being first. You should buy a Nikon Z6 now.
Would you trust Amz for a Z 24-70 f4 S renewed for $518?
I would not.
Is it from amazon warehouse? If so, buy iit, test it and if not ok send it back.

Any thoughts on the Z mount 85mm f1.8?
Nikon Z6 is very nice camera, better than A7m3, but AF features cant be used with non-nikon F lenses, also Sigma Art lenses, this situation is not good :(
Yes, things are not perfect.
great one ❤
Thanks 🔥
does the Z 35mm go on the nikon z50?
It does, where it gives you an equivalent view of about a 50mm.
Holy cow. Thats how you teach a 1 month class in a day. Rewind and pause are your friends friends. Please MH, show the other million RUclipsrs how to present information.
Wow, a real pleasure to read your kind words, thanks!!
Tnx for video 🤙
Happy to know that my work is appreciated, thanks!
Thank you sir!!
Most welcome! Thanks for your kind words.
My lens says24-70/4S. Nikon s on side is the other lens showing
I'm sorry, I don't understand the question.
It doesn’t say 4fs and only has a or m switch
What is the problem exactly?
Nice video
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words.
In a nutshell if you have DSLR lens you don't necessarily have to go rush selling it for Z Lens.
Not if you're satisfied with the slightly awkward operation, slower AF and potentially lower quality.
The primes are still huge compared to their excellent predecessors. Is this tendency for lenses and cameras to keep getting larger inevitable? I don't like it. My OM4 with a 50mm 1.4 feels like a snowflake in comparison.
No, not inevitable.
Leica primes are nice n small but that comes with a price. Everything is a trade off.
@@AcidicDelusion Is there a Leica to Z adapter?
the 50mm on my z50 is magnificent
Always nice to hear from a photographer who's found a system that pleases.
Thanks Maarten.
My pleasure! Thanks for the kind words.
Great, great, great and very informative review. :) (y)
Thanks for the kind words, always appreciated.
Are you a current nikon user
I am not - the cameras (and lenses) I review are on loan. As I've been doing this for some time, I do have a good understanding and familiarity with Nikon cameras.
Do you have a specific question about some aspect? Thanks to the pandemic I still have the Z7 at hand.
You all okay Maarten? You haven't posted for a while and these days you never know.
Yes, fine. I'm working on the Fujifilm X-T4, but process is slow in these times where less is possible and everything takes longer. Thanks for your concern - also hoping that all is well with you.
@@MaartenHeilbron nice to hear you're fine Maarten.. a good work needs the right amount of time, no problem 🙂
@@nerdMike I appreciate your understanding. And your concern. Always nice to have friends check in to make sure you're okay.
Big like
Thanks, appreciated.
Understood, thanks for adding your thoughts and hopes.
I own the Z50 and the two lens. I have an older Nikon 80-400 . It does not work. I was told just the AFS lens of Nikon. Also a Tokina 100 mm f 2.8 lens . those lens work fine on my 7100 and 7500,
What do you mean by "does not work" - are you not able to see an image when it's mounted? Which adapter are you using.
FTZ adapter by Nikon. both don't work.
@@lokatpic What do you mean by "don't work" - are you not able to see an image when it's mounted?
If you have a problem with unlocking some of the lenses, than don't lock them, problem solved. So you think the advantage of less room used in a bag isn't one.
I don't understand.
What am i missing here - why are these lenses so expensive? they look plasticky and dont let through very much light.
@@TheFalkingFive What you are missing will be obvious once you start creating images with the Z6 or Z7.
@@MaartenHeilbron Im already using Fuji GFX, and i quite like it. I just dont see the big advantage of using the Nikon mirrorless system - exept u have a lot of old nikon glass...
@@TheFalkingFive While I'm glad to hear you've made a decision that works for you, please reconsider the need to impose your values and judgements on others. And thanks for now making it clear that you've been trolling.
I almost fell to sleep, damn. Great video tho.
That's high praise indeed! Thanks.
im gonna help you all save sometime .. this guy is great and informative but HE SPEAKS SOOO SLOWWW> turn the sound speed to 1.75 and you will save sometime. lol
