Today we're going to be taking a look at "It Takes A Thief", the home burglar reality show I forgot existed. For good reason though, this show was quite the fever dream. I had watched it as a kid and remember it being one of the coolest shows ever. Which just means I think it's silly as an adult. Anyways enjoy, it takes a thief!

Prison changes a man, you either come out a scarf guy or a beanie guy.
Another banger of a video!
Jordan you have scarves vibes and I have beanie vibes let’s start a show
You both have trench coat vibes #trenchcoatmafia
Home vibes
Dude, I really want to upvote this comment, but you're at 69, and... I dunno, man!
@@Josh-mk8vi I like the way your brain works brother. +1
"If they have those toys outside, imagine what they have inside!"
Ah, yes. They have boats in their driveway. That means they must have bigger boats in their kitchen.
Gotta love super innocent people 😂😂😂😂
This comment had me dieing.
Honestly thought when beanie guy was calling someone that’s what it was for. To load up some of those toys outside.
He's referring to smaller valuables. Usually if one has a boat proudly displayed outside they got nice stuff inside. Laptops, TV's, game consoles, luxury things
If you have that stuff up front you gotta have some nice cash on you.
I loved the snarky “john learned a lot” at the end. He didn’t lock anything up. Beanie guy probably tipped off his old homies to get that Picasso a couple months down the line
😭😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣
You cant get anything for a painting that was stolen
@@LaserJamesRoblox not legally at least.
@@LaserJamesRoblox the Louvre museum would beg to differ (or any museum tbh)
@@spliffyrodgers4266 you know that place is french right? 🤮💀
This one I actually remember! So funny when they broke this lady's crystal and she kept bringing it up and they just tried to gloss over it "Yeah that could really happen if you got robbed"
You're really good at shining a light on obscure shows I'd watched a few times 20 years ago 😂 thanks for unlocking these buried memories lol
Haha I literally was thinking the same thing “i vaguely remember these from when I was a kid” type shows
More like burglarizing those buried memories!
Dude facts 🤣🤣
It’s not that you watched them a few times it’s just that they didn’t last long lol
Imagine: What if the tv show didn't exist and it was just a ploy to clear an entire house of every valuable after the home owner showing everything to you.
Seriously, the Picasso painting and stuff would've just looked like junk to someone breaking in
@@slarbiter what I'm saying is what if they just told the home owners they were on a tv show, got them to show them all the weaknesses in the security, the location of all their valuables, and then instead of the home owners getting their items back after the robbery and getting their security upgraded the "show" just ghosted them
I was thinking about robbing people by pretending to be show runners, but this is waaaay smarter, this is white collar reasoning my dude.
Remember Drake and Josh fell for a TV show that was supposed to fix up the house and it got robbed? Lol
@@slarbiter Most people don't break in without reason. They most likely would've been vetted first, casing is a thing. And he's so loose about talking about how much money all that stuff is worth, I wouldn't be surprised if he got robbed after this show was over.
I loved this show when it was on; it taught me the lesson that thieves will steal spare keys just to come back later to steal a vehicle. It's a life lesson that has lived on with me.
6:00 if he had to TELL the thief crew how much his shit is worth, it would have honestly been overlooked by the burglars by virtue of looking like crap.
Nah, they know what to take. They started doing the show impromptu with the burglar casing the place separately and the owner just agreeing to be robbed at some point and he cleaned people out way better. He even did some where he brought a crew.
@@dash4800 Yeah but how many burglars get to case a HOUSE? A store, a business, a museum... yeah I get that, but you just don't walk into someone's home and take the grand tour to check what's worth stealing.
anything in my house worth anything are things most people don't have a clue about.
@@drakkenmensch they cased it as in, from the outside, looked at the cars they had, and maybe through the windows. They didn't get to go in to see what all they had. They just profiled the house by what they could see. Like people with boats and atvs in the back yard likely have more toys inside.
@@drakkenmensch Depends. If you know they are on vacation, you'll take your time. My home was broken into when I was a young kid. My brother is a few years older than me, and the whole family is absolutely certain my brother's friends did it. We had 2 VCRs connected to the TV, one working and one half broken (we just used it for RF switching). They stole the working one and left the broken one behind. They definitely had inside information about what to steal, they knew we were gone, and they knew we would not return for several weeks.
Theft is not random. A lot of it is done by people you've met before. Now that people post everything on facebook, everyone knows when you're gone.
I think in the later seasons, they had the thief actually case the owners, and break-in when they weren't home. It led to some very interesting situations. I think the cops even got called on the thieves a couple times.
The cops did get called a few times, I liked the later seasons
Yep, the show got really interesting then.
I remember one episode he over heard a couple in a bar talking and that was the set up
I totally forgot this show! My Dad got mad at me for watching this one day because he said it was teaching people on how to rob houses. I was mad at him as a kid because he told me I wasn’t allowed to watch it, but now seeing it as an adult, I can kinda see where he’s coming from. 😂
Nah. People who rob houses already know how to rob houses
@@voz3704 I think he was afraid his son was going to become a burglar
I'm honestly the most scared of John the home owner. Guy looks like Hitman. I get the feeling if someone robbed his house he would track them down, take them out in the woods and murder them.
I think he forgot a few times there that he was on a tv show, lol...
5:16 i can vouch for this, my grandfather worked for IBM and was extremely tech savvy, now he has all dated stuff that he thinks is technical but is near a decade old.
Your grandfather worked for the nazis
I cant believe this show really happened! They actually broke the people's property 😂😂. The pawn shop joke you made really should have been a part of the show.
Great video as always!
When I was about 22 years old and I was asked by my parents to watch over their house that I grew up in over the summer, like "check in now and then and water the plants", and one day I find the door to be unlocked and my childhood home to be upside down and trashed by someone who I do not know, someone who I never allowed entry, I can kind of understand how you would say that it "feels like you've been raped", but obviously it is not the same as actual rape. But it was something so disturbing. It didn't leave me or my parents with the feeling of "oh no our stuffs gone!", it was the knowledge of someone intruding your home and destroying it, taking whats yours, not respecting your autonomy, not respecting your place that is supposed to be yours and safe.
That's understandable because you were actually robbed. It takes away your sense of safety. These guys are absolutely devastated over having their house messed up. Just feels weird that they'd react that way when they know that they are getting all their stuff back and said this was okay to do.
I've been a victim of both and no they are nowhere near the same thing lmao
Not even kidding, I think about this show almost daily as I look at all the things in my yard that these guys could have scolded me for having out in the open
And I don’t mean nice stuff. I mean like shovels and such
Same. There were some valuable life lessons in this show.
I learned a lot from this show, I've had a pair of GSD's ever since and actually lock my stuff 🤔
Watching this show back in the day I never got the getting upset over watching a mock robbery of your house. Like it's not hard to differentiate fact from fiction and you're getting everything back. Unless I guess they were told and coached to react as if it's real.
_producers._
still so bizarre. you have to wonder if these producers genuinely think this feels like natural behavior - or if they're deliberately making it feel _unnatural_ so viewers don't throw fits and call their local senators because they think everything they see on reality television is, in fact, reality.
Also some people are just crazy and can’t differentiate reality from a lot of things.
This guy walks into his friends bathroom, sees his&hers toothbrushes, each with their own toothpaste, and says
*“ItS lIkE a DeNtIsTs OfFiCe In HeRe!”*
This kid is hilarious. I always crack up at how shocked he is about how whacked out the world was from 2000-2006. I feel old…
Thank you, this was so informative. I had no idea locking doors was so effective. And that guys in beanies are so rude
I know right? I never realized they wouldn't pry open any windows or smash open anything if it's locked you're safe
This show made me want to be a security expert and do this kind if stuff for a living. Instead I played "thief simulator" a lot.
This show still occupies a part of my brain rent-free all these years later. Thank you for talking about it!
I used to love this show back in the day. I would watch it after coming home from school while I played World of Warcraft... man good times..
Ha! I was on this show! I had a security dog business and they had scheduled a local dog trainer to be on the show. I knew the guy and he had asked me how to handle his performance. Long story short, the guy went out drinking the night before production and the producer wound up calling g me out of the phone book in desperation. Was actually a really fun day!
You have quickly become a staple in my house Chris! Everyone's excited when you upload. Keep up these awesome videos, i had completely forgotten about this show!
Some say he’s still cracking that safe to this day.
he should check if there are any bowls near by it might have the combination written in it
If the safe takes an *invited guest expert safecracker* this long to crack, how bad could it possibly be?
I wanna know wtf was in that safe!?!
Do the one where they rob a diamond dealer. It's pretty rediculous how much he gets away with.
You are truly one of the funniest people on RUclips. You say all the things I think while watching dumb shows...but you're way funnier and have way more Babe tapes. Thanks for always making me laugh.
These dives into 2000's reality shows are great!
Burgulary tip: the hide-a-key is usually 2-3 feet from the front door. Also if theres a garden rock in an odd place near the front door, probably a spare key under it.
Hell yeah my boy Chris James back to reignite some memories of shows best left forgotten.
When I read the thumbnail I immediately think of an episode of always sunny in Philadelphia where the gang does a extreme make over Philly edition. They go to this families house blasting heavy metal, wake em up and put black bags over their head lol. Screaming "GOOD MORNING JUAREZ FAMILY"!! If you haven't seen it, I bet it's on youtube. And if you've never seen the show, then I feel bad for you.
Oh, I get it now. The producer's of shows like this and Gordon Ramsay's early shows weren't interested in helping people learn security or how to run a business they were only interested in tricking people into consenting into massive privacy violations.
They didn't want to help they wanted to exploit!
The guy that truly scared me in this video was the homeowner. I got major creepy vibes from him.
Oh, I did too! Interesting that I'm not the only one.
He's definitely got a body buried somewhere on the premises.
i love that i can always count on your channel to provide me with that instant rush of “WAIT I REMEMBER THAT SHOW AHHHH” lmaooo thank you so much
"I don't really jeep any valuables in my room."
"Where do you have your valuables?"
"You don't have any valuables."
Lololololololololol
I don't understand how emotional they get when all these are just easy fixes. And his take from everything. I should lock my doors lol
I’m really glad the show is real and not some thing I just fever dreamed from my childhood.
You should watch one of the later episodes where they do the initial burglary at a random time so the family comes back and sees it for themselves, it feels a lot more realistic and is interesting to see them watch the replay.
I remember this show, what a time to be alive. Fairly certain key code doors in an interior space , would be against fire code.
Chris is back at it again!! Thank you again for making my day haha
grateful i found your channel. you're one of the few people who covers all the specific shows i was obsessed with as a kid which also tells me my taste wasn't as different as i thought lol
Just found your channel a few days ago, now I’m binging the hell out of your vids and bro…you’re unlocking so many memories about these shows I forgot about.
Been a fan for a long time, excited to see you finally starting to get the recognition you deserve!
Loved this show! There were a couple other weird ones like “Estate of Panic” and “Chase”
The actual burglar guy is definitely not acting lol. He's super fucking into this.
One of my favorite channels, you deserve more recognition
Your channel showed up in my recommended and I’m definitely subscribing!! I have watched a few videos and enjoyed them all!!
Man I forgot about this show. Watched it all the time as kid. Thanks for the laughs and content.
Keep up the good work man. Just got done watching all your stuff not long ago! Love the content
Thank you!
Yay! I'm so glad someone made a video on this. I loved this show so much
Stumbled across your content, I’m about 20 videos deep in the rabbit hole, comedy slaps every time 👏🏼
First time watching your channel, and I like you a lot as a commentator, keep it up. New sub for sure
It Takes A Theif was no joke one of my fav tv shows to watch after school.
"Maybe take a baseball to you."
"Ya? What baseball bat? You mean the one I stole? That baseball bat? "
I remember that show! My older sibling and I watched it a lot one summer, and we became super paranoid and freaked out when the UPS guy came (they posed as movers one episode). Honestly the episode shown seemed mild, beanie guy usually smashes so much shit.
The most iconic episode was called "The House that Fought Back", where they robbed a magician's house and the thief kept getting caught up in the tricks. In hindsight, that was probably staged, it's a little ridiculous that a thief would be deterred by snake in a jar...
I was waiting for this one. Watched all of those seasons. Thanks for the video!!!
Its great to see you post again❤️
I'm a bit late chris but this was top notch man had me actually laugh out loud multiple times. Keep it up bro
Glad you put another vid out… my girlfriend and I binged watch your videos… laughing our butts off. Good shit.
“You don’t have any valuables do you “?😂😂😂 I started dying laughing so hard 😂
Props to these guys, Breaking into the house belonging to Agent 47.
So happy to see you posted. Keep up the good shit dude
Man I remember watching this thinking the same things as a kid lol. Keep making these awesome videos I’m crying laughing over here
This video was funny as heck, you really do a great commentary on all the absolute garbage that was the 2000s. My favourite channel to sub to by far, greetings from New Zealand
I remember watching this show a lot, and I remember one episode where Jon snuck into the house while the woman who owned it was still inside, and she never noticed he was there the whole time.
Holy shit… thank you for unlocking this fucking show from my brain!!
How the hell did I forget about this?! Oh my god I’m laughing so god damn hard 😂 ty
Man, I still think about this show all the time! It’s one of those shows that I -almost- try to find out where I can stream the series, and then never get around to it.
As always, love your work!
Did the safe get cracked or did I totally miss that?
Bro you’re naturally funny. Also you’re doing some important work unlocking these old memories.
nope, i was thinking about this show just last week, and wondering why it went off the air.
thanks for posting! I too watched this in my younger days
It seriously makes my day every time I see a new upload.
N this may be the funniest one yet
I love your channel..its great how you can act so absurd with a straight face!:) love it
I enjoy your content bud, and your whole demeaner pure SWAG
I’ve been binge watching your videos and although I’ve been laughing every episode, this one in particular had me Ctfu. When the guy says you can climb that and you said what if he fell and broke his nose! Lmao
Hey, pretty new here but I love it here. I think you looking back on how cringe some early American Idol auditions would be hilarious ha maybe just me but regardless loving catching up on all your videos its been great
I love how the room is slowly being consumed by babe on vhs👌🏾👌🏾 another hilarious video bro😂😂
This and Cash Cab were what I watched every day after school lol. Great video!
Dude ur humor is top tier love this channel so much thank you for your content Lol
They weren't even ex thieves. They were working actors.
Dude I remember watching this after school when I was younger and totally forgot what the name was. Thanks for making a video on this show!
I usually don’t comment on videos, let alone like them, unless they’re music videos but James, I LOVE ALL of your videos, I’m going to comment on each one of them to help out in anyway I can bc you should be a lot bigger than you are.
I don’t understand how you haven’t just blown up. 😢
theres a sense of nostalgia at seeing all the old electronics, and its not even that old,but its cool to see what type of tv and cameras we had in the early 2000s
Hands down my favorite youtuber. Every video makes me laugh!
Please never stop I love your videos ❤️❤️
another great one, I am always so happy when I get a notification for a new video!
Ok...Deadliest Warrior and It Takes a Thief reviews? I'm subbing, good shit bro
I'm pretty sure I'm not your I'm not your target audience but this channel is the best , you're hilarious 💯
I just love that if you have a camera in the early 2000's you could just rob people.
I used to watch this show every single day after school. Came on right before or after cash cab. Love the video.
Another funny ass video g, love the shirt btw
Your videos give me hope for humanity. 😆 I love your content, man!
There was an episode of this where the guy was a collector of minted coins. Which come in these sealed plastic cases. So literally fresh, minted, untouched coins from many decades and the ‘burglar’ broke them out of the cases to prove a point.
Love your videos man post more often need more of your funny commentary
Yepee!! Couldn't wait until you uploaded your next video 👍😁
I’d love to see these types of uploads done with video games lol. I think it’d be hilarious.
I am in love with this channel 😂😂😌
I actually forgot this show existed but I used to watch it so you nailed that title!
I loved this show as kid, i felt like i was being taught how to become a burglar and it always amazed me people would let these guys break in to thier houses
What does your shirt say =o? Lol love the video as always.....p.s PDA's were baddass
I really really hope you come back to do another episode of this show. I watched it all the time as a kid. Maybe do an episode where Jon “Beanie Guy” gets the cops called on him?
