This is a masterpiece of songwriting IMHO, especially the way the bridge mirrors the first verse. He gave up the dream of “hanging out on the coast”, so that in the end, she gets to be “headed out to the West Coast.” Sheer brilliance.

Yes! The days are long but the years are short…
Early to mid 90s I had the opportunity to meet several current & rising country artists. Can say he was genuinely one of the kindest, most polite guys… for what it’s worth. To me, it’s worth quite a bit😊
    Check these out from Kenny:
    -Don’t Blink
    -The Good Stuff
    -That’s Why I’m Here
    Wonderful reaction as always!
    Stay safe & love much💖
    Cheers!

My favorite Kenny song is Who You'd Be Today. It gets me every time. It came out right after my friend in high school wrecked her mother's car and was killed instantly. I've seen Kenny twice in concert, the first was his Somewhere In The Sun Tour in 2005, and the other was his Cruise (can't remember the name of it) but we got to see him perform on Paradise Island. He's an amazing performer.

Kenny definitely held on to a lot of country tradition in a good bit of his stuff, not all but a good bit. Really great song for sure and given that it came out in 2004 but still retained that 90s feels says a lot about Kenny.

Country Music (especially 90s Country) tells it like it is and if there’s any emotion that you’re dealing with, this genre will bottle those feelings up and make music that will hopefully help you. My favorite songs from Kenny Chesney are That’s Why I’m Here; The Tin Man; All I Need to Know; Grandpa Told Me So; You Win, I Win, We Lose; There Goes My Life; Me and You; Who You’d Be Today; Don't Blink, A Chance; Fall in Love; and Every Other Weekend (duet with Reba McEntire).

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched your videos & I’ve cried at your heartfelt reaction. I can do relate to this song. My daughter whose a product of IVF so she was so very wanted & I always knew the time would come where she’d spread her wings & move out but I never expected her to move 6 hours away to Sydney. Suffice to say that when the day came I cried like a baby as I watched her drive away. My recommendation would be to react to another Kenny Chesney song called Don’t Blink. I know you’ll have an emotional reaction to that one👍🏻

You will love "Don't Blink" by Kenny Chesney. Also try "Don't Take the Girl" by Tim McGraw and "He Didn't Have to Be" by Brad Paisley. For just a fun song, listen to "I'm Still a Guy" by Brad Paisley.

I've known this song for a long time, and it's affected me differently as the years have gone by. I cried more at the beginning and middle when my son was first born and still a little boy - but now he's seventeen and in his last year at our local college, I cry more at the end part, because that feels closer to my life all too soon. And yes, Kenny Chesney is known for these types of songs. He'l squeeze your heart a few more times with other songs of his.

I love Kenny, he has loads of good songs. When my first son was born, we thought we were so prepared, all ready, nursery done, classes taken, had been married 2 years and in all of our 21 years of wisdom, we new it all.....then my son was born very ill, without an immune system, with lung problems and a heart issue and we were told he would most likely not live to see his 1st Birthday. They don't teach you how to expect that or deal with that kind of news. That boy was a fighter though and although he spent much time in the hospital and by the age of 11 had actually "died 3 times" he's grow to be a strapping 31 year old young man who spends his life giving back. He's been a Firefighter/EMT since he was 15, he started as a Volunteer at our local Station. He joined the Army and spent 4 years serving his Country and is currently an Active Army National Guard Reservist, as well. We were told we couldn't have any more kids, due to the difficulty with his birth, but were blessed and totally surprised 9 years later with a 2nd son, and even though they were so far apart in age, the boys were inseparable from the time of little brother's birth. My 2nd son is also very community oriented and works as a Fish and Wildlife Game Officer, he loves the outdoors as did his older brother and was an Eagle Scout. He loved fishing so much that he started a Fishing Club in his High School so he could find a way to fish during the day at school. LOL
We were terrified the 2nd pregnancy, because we weren't sure we could handle going through all of the pain, terror, and heartache again, that we did with our first, and Dr.'s could only guess at a 50/50 chance of whether or not our 2nd son would have the same problems. But we were blessed and he was perfectly healthy, rarely got sick at all and was just a sports crazy, normal little boy. He actually ended up going to University on a Rugby Scholarship. The thought of watching another child suffer the way my first did was truly terrifying for most of my pregnancy...but my first son was such an amazing child and for all that he went through the first 11 years of his life before his immune system "grew into his body/age" and things began to regulate and his life began to be that of a normal boy....God definitely gave him more power and strength to handle things that most people could not.
Although my husband and I divorced after 25 years of marriage, I was also blessed to have sons who didn't want to be too far away from mom, so they live only about 30 minutes away and I get to see them quite frequently. I'm not sure how parents whose children move far away from home handle not seeing their kids regularly....that is not something I could handle. I have a very special bond with my oldest son, who is 31 now and my youngest is 22. The first time he "died" he was 6 weeks old and I found him blue and not breathing with no pulse in his crib in the night, and had to do CPR until the ambulance came....between his fight to stay in this world and my fight to not let him leave it, well we've always had a very tight bond and relationship. God definitely had a purpose for that boy being on this earth. The 2nd time he was 5 and he got the Chicken Pox, regular old childhood illness, but without a fully functioning immune system, he was in the Hospital for 6 weeks struggling to survive and they lost him once during that time. The last and 3rd time he "died" he was 10 and crashed in the ER with a Blood Pressure of 220/190 and it took them 4 minutes to get him back and 6 hours in the PICU to get him stable and to the point where he would stay with us. At one point the Trauma Pedicatrician came out and asked us, "Do you want us to continue to do life saving measures? We've been working on him for 6 hours and we cannot keep a stable blood pressure and its a miracle that he's not had a Stroke." And I was like, he's 10, he's my son, yes, you do whatever the hell you have to, but you keep my son alive, and I believe in miracles and he's a fighter, so until he can't go anymore, You keep doing everything it takes. He was in the PICU for 3 weeks then on the children's ward for another 2, he had contracted a "then unknown" variation of Strep that went into his Kidneys, which would not allow them to regulate his Blood Pressure. He turned 11 in the hospital and when he went home, he was an 11 year old with High Blood Pressure, and I can tell you it is no easy task keeping an 11 year old boy on a No Salt/No Fried Foods High Blood Pressure Diet.
So, sorry for the long post, but yes I definitely know the love and feelings and everything that comes when that small little bundle is born and you have no idea what comes next, sometimes it's a battle for life and terrifying and sometimes its easy and just joy and fun. I had one of each. I love that you did this song, it's always been one of my favorite Kenny songs. I always enjoy your reactions and your love of this genre of music as you discover it.
    ☺❤
A really good Brad Paisley song that I thing you'd really like is "He Didn't Have To Be" its kind of along the same longs of Father's and Sons. Take care and hope you have a great rest of the week!!!

I enjoyed your story & so glad your son survived! I also have 2 sons & was so blessed to not have to endure what you did with your older son! My younger son is having health problems now, but not when he was a child! I'm having blood pressure problems & evidently kidney problems because my doctor insisted I have to see a specialist so I have an appointment next week! I can't imagine having to deal with that at 11 years old!

Other artist have covered this song, but I do like Kenny's version better. It is true, learning you are going to be a parent is a scary thing, but the most rewarding. Hardest thing to see them grow up and leave "the nest" you worry constantly, but are so proud of their accomplishments. Great reaction!

I started my fatherhood very late in life. I was 50yrs old. My son can be stressful but he is all mine. The hardest thing is I have to stay alive to watch all his life choices and make sure he's happy. It's so tough that I am not able to do all the things I want to do with him but I push though any discomfort I may have to give him the life I want for him.

My wife and I found out that we were going to parents when we were still teenagers. We were so scared! We were just out of high school, I was going from job to job, I had a 1979 Ford Thunderbird, I had to trade that in. Now our first born is a 27 year old woman. We also have a 21 year old daughter, and a 9 year old granddaughter from the oldest. She was a young parent as well. My wife and I have almost 30 years together, and I now see that I would not change a thing. My oldest daughter said that she wants to buy me a 79 T-Bird some day, and we can all cruise coast to coast. Great reaction bro! Thanks!!

I had a baby at 17 (turned 18 a few months later), & when I found out I was pregnant I thought that was it. I went to a school for the intellectually gifted and had a full ride to Loyola followed by guaranteed admission to Tulane Medical School (had to keep my grades up of course) because they work together and poach people from the gifted schools. I was shocked because what got me pregnant wasn't something I had done before that one time. I was embarrassed, but my family supported me in every way. It was actually good that I didn't end up going to med school because we later found out I had a severe immune disorder and am living on a timeclock. However, having her was one of the two best things I ever did. She's gorgeous, was the best little girl when she was little, and never made any trouble which everyone was amazed by. She was so chill and so sweet, blue eyes and bouncing curls! Then I had a boy and man was that different lol! He's my very heart as well. I cannot imagine my life without either one of them. I missed out on medical school, but had I gone I would've ended up with loans I could never pay back due to not being able to work with sick people with my illness. God has a reason for everything. I'm now a full-time blogger which allows me to stay home with my son (my daughter already graduated- 19) and keeps me away from crowds where I could get sick, and I love what I do. This song hits hard. It came out either when I was pregnant or right after she was born, so it went on my iPod immediately! Love your reaction!

as a daughter, a young one, but nonetheless; i have a very close relationship to both of my parents, especially my dad, so i understand how they both will feel when i head off to college and move out. because of my constant fear of the worst, the best, and all of the possible outcomes of different decisions and situations, i have a pretty vivid idea of how i’ll feel in the next couple years when i move out. i’ve never been away from my parents for weeks at a time and so i have a pretty strong hold on them in my heart, meaning i think i would take the separation very difficultly, but i’m positive that i would take any and every chance i could get to come home, even for just a weekend. this song makes me think of the future and while it’s happy, it’s unfortunate that just the idea of leaving scares me and that’s why i absolutely love this song with all my heart because as much as i don’t like to think about the future, as much as i like to just live by the second, songs like these force me to think about the future and what i’m determined to set for my future self

Powerful song, with a clever play on the title lyrics. Great choice!

During your comments at the end you talk about how it goes so fast, well Kenny Chesney has another song called "Don't Blink" that talks bout that very feeling.

Definitely Boys of Fall. There is a short film version that you really should check out. It’s over 8 minutes but has some of the most inspirational content for anyone but especially for young men and boys.
Also I love Anything But Mine. Great reviews!

Love this song! He has a song called "Blink" which is a wonderful story as well for you to react to. Like you said, your children grow up so fast. I was such a daddys girl so I can relate. From a parents point of view you have to make the most of everyday, loving and laughing. Now I have grandkids so the love and laughter and memories continue❤

Question have you heard the song watching you by Rodney Atkins and the sequel song he's mine? If not I would suggest these two, and I would suggest recording them back-to-back
