- I met up with my Good Buddy and Professional Motorcycle Racer Corey Alexander at Hudson Valley Motorcycles in New York, to check out the 2019 Energica Ego electric motorcycle. This is a beautiful motorcycle with a lot of power (145 hp/107kW) and an extreme amount of torque (144 lbf.ft/195.24 N.m). We tested this power and torque against my 2016 Kawasaki Ninja H2, BMW S1000RR M, and a BMW M6 automobile that just happened to cross my path! You might be surprised at the outcome! These electric motorcycle are unique, and while the sound is nowhere near that of the Kawasaki Ninja H2 or BMW S1000RR they do have their very own (and very impressive) fighter jet sound! Honestly I know that electric bikes are the future and I think I'm going to be ok with it. I like the sound and the instant torque. And I think over time as they have a longer range and faster, lighter package they are gonna be a lot of fun.

I'm coming from cars. every single one of them 6 speed and over 400whp between each. shifting adds nothing you'll miss when you get to enjoy sheer speed with less consequences and actually get to enjoy the scenery and torque. every time you floor a gas engine, you have to wonder if that's the last time you'll do it. because things blow up. valves fall out of tolerance.. these bikes are like turning on an electric drill. just floor it everywhere, f* it! and then go home and recharge and you have a full tank tomorrow! instead of regretting that you now have to spend extra money on accelerated oil changes, valve adjustments, or replacement engines because yours blew up having fun.
The more fun you have on gas, the more money goes down. you eliminate this almost completely with a toy bike like this that you can actually enjoy without consequence. not to mention the cost of actual fuel consumption itself.

So the number one reason to buy one is the fun factor (as I thought) allthough all that fun may disapear after geting smoked by a car or all of your friends with gas engine. At least if they were cheaper to buy,that way to get your money back riding almost free ,but u get your money back after like 15-20 years.

Needs more voltage, and a better cooling system if the motor overheats easier from the higher voltage. And the speed limiter needs to be removed. If it can't be, I'd replace the controller with a high voltage, high amp universal controller, for homemade EVs.

The fact that I can speed on the highway without attracting any attention because of exhaust notes is the only reason why I will want this especially at night when there's no traffic usually a cop hears your exhaust before he sees you

Love to see you redo this with the 2020 Ego Plus to see if it is different. It weighs less with a little more power.
Those are some fun looking roads around there. I used to hate the idea of everything becoming electric but if they can get that weight down and keep the power the same I'd gladly trade in one of my gas bikes. I got to take the Harley livewire for a spin and I'm not a Harley guy at all, but it was way more fun that I'd like to admit. Great content as always buddy. Looking forward to seeing what else you do with the V4R and new S1KRR!

I'm keeping a close eye on the lightning strike carbon edition bike at just under 20k with 120HP and 180 lb-ft with only weighing in at 485 lb. This bike is gonna be a monster.
Sounds so sick. Unfortunately I feel like if you aren't in a big city, it isnt practical for hitting up charging stations.
Our great grandkids are going to think we were idiots for having to put gasoline in our vehicles.

I love how you have to open the bike up and expose that cooling fan to the elements when charging. And having it right on the top so it can absorb as much rain as possible is frankly a master stroke of pure genius.

You should have done a 0-60mph race with the other ice motorcycles. This is where this motorcycle would have shown its potential.

Any of the 1000 will hit at least 180stock this things tops at 150 less than a 600. 0 to 60 is slower also. Its heavier, and like 3 times the price. ....I dont like

@@jaymathews7161 your average liter bike would get crushed in a 0-60 race (also, the latest model goes 0-60 in 2.6 seconds) , ofc an ice bike is faster thru the twisties (a modern one, not a 07 R1) and comparing a 15 year old used bike to a new one by price is a pretty twisted metric (not saying the enrgica is cheap, but it's not 3 times it's competitors)

I love that manufacturers are moving towards electrifying motorcycles, I think it open up a new market of potential rides and I like seing new electric bikes. However, being a rider myself, I am worried that the lack of noise could make riding even more dangerous because before they could hear you, but couldn't see you, now that can't see nor hear you so as a rider, I have to be incredible careful.
That's a good point, that's something that will have to be looked into by the bicycle manufacturers, maybe they could build a sound generator into the EV bikes construction and make the noise it generates customisable plus a basic engine noises as standard.

My model 3 is 4k lbs
That is absolutely ridiculous,that's way too heavy for me to even waste my time with.
My performance Model S is almost 5k lbs, yet still quicker than 99.9% of anything rolling on 4 wheels. Can it be even quicker? Of course, but what do you compromise. Cargo space, safety, comfort. That’s the purpose of a Roadster second gen.. though safety and comfort still won’t be compromised.. just less space. A performance model 3 is a nice balance of comfort, safety, and cargo, and adds better handling due to less mass.
Bikes have far less space to pack a lot of battery, so it’s harder to match what can be done with a car or a truck. Is there still a reason to build an electric bike? I think so. I’m a huge fan of sub 400lb bikes.. two of my personal favorites being a 400GSXR and the FZ-07, so I’m intrigued when considering an electric bike knowing that they weigh in a hundred, two hundred+ more from the start. I like the twisties, so I gotta know the turn in, braking, and handling feels just as confident before I’m ready to switch my bike out to electric.
In terms of acceleration, there’s quicker electric bikes than the Ego, but the Energica is employing some additional safety on their bikes that other electrics aren’t, adding weight. A lot to consider as safety can’t be overlooked.
I’ll be test riding an Energica and a Zero for the first time next week to see how it compares to the 600’s and 689 I ride now and will leave my impressions here.

I think bikes are pretty energy efficient as they are. I would surely obsess on the batter level on longer rides and would have to plan around battery stations. For 20k nah.

bikes are very much NOT energy efficient, a typical cx for a sedan is 0.30 or lower, for your average superbike it's about 0.60
@@itzFYEB Drag coefficient is only one part of energy efficiency, and it isn't even the most important part. Since the vast, overwhelming majority of driving is single-occupancy, a small displacement bike will use far less fuel than a small displacement car and produce far fewer emissions.
@@QarthCEO at lower speeds, yes, at highway speeds, not quite, a small 2 seater car going at 85 mph will not use more fuel than a bike of comparable displacement even if it's much heavier and has a higher frontal area

The smallest engine car is going to be a large displacement bike. If you're going to talk small compact cars at highway speeds, then you have to talk about small compact bikes, something like a Suzuki Burgman 400, which will easily cruise at highway speeds getting 70mpg all day long, a feat no Corolla is coming anywhere near.
BTW, I noticed how you moved the goal post from a SEDAN to a 2 seater... which 2 seater car are you suggesting gets better mpg than a sub 500cc bike?

As cool as electric is, I don’t really see them overtaking gasoline powered bikes. No wheelies, no clutch, no exhaust sound. Hard to say I’ll trade gas for that just yet.

@@Texarmageddon Huh torque monster E Bikes rely on motor programing or traction control to prevent unintended wheelies. You bet people will figure out how to disable that because it's just a software switch. Then wheelies will become a problem just launching from stand still.

So awesome video as always 650 ! It’s good to know that at 6’3” I would be comfortable on it and that it is heavy and slow. It’s also good to know that it has a 100 mile reach. Another thing is charging the motorcycle up. In the South Eastern United States, I haven’t noticed a lot of charging stations. So for me, I’ll give it a medium to low score, a 4 out of 1-10. Thank You
You can actually buy a charging station for your house for not too expensive so you can charge it at your own house, if that helps

Lithium batteries would be much lighter and safer but probably add a few thousand to the price.
life expectancy of batteries? Replacement price? total loss after few years? wouldn´t buy a second hand Iphone because of the battery, so definitely no Ecar or Ebike.
Electric stuff can be fun and has some advantages but it's not what I want in a motorcycle.

I'm trying to understand if these electric bikes need a 2nd gear, to quell the high frequency sound of the motor, so it can run at a lower RPM? Is the electric gear whine intrusive? It sounds intrusive over the microphone..

The quick charging really makes this more appealing. I would enjoy this more on a race track, but on the street I still prefer good ol combustion.

I mean anything in general is kind of a stretch to go 300 miles (if it's electric), hell it was only a couple years ago where the Tesla model s went over 300 mi for range (and they were at the peak of their tech)....
I mean the Porsche Tycan can't do 200 miles of range.
So I'm just happy with the 150 miles of range
