It’s a great camera no doubt, and maybe I’m not astute enough to appreciate the differences, but if I had to do it over, I think I would have just kept my 4. If I didn’t have a 4 I’d definitely get the 5 and be very happy with it. The only thing I don’t like is the screen goes dark when shooting after a minute or two. I learned though that if I change the screen off setting to 10 minutes then I can get 10 minutes, but set it to ‘never’ and you’ll only get about a minute. That’s really bad underwater when you can’t refresh it. But it’s good enough at 10 minutes. I had a couple frustrating dives till I figured that out.

The Action 5 doesn‘t have a dedicated dive mode. As like it‘s predecessor you can save custom settings C1 to C5 - but now you can give it a symbol like the scubamask to it.
I dive for the thrill, the peace, and the epic underwater views. And my Osmo Action 3? It’s my ride-or-die. It’s tough, reliable, and gets every shot without breaking a sweat-just like me. Plus, I’m broke, so I’m sticking with this camera until it taps out! 😅 this beast keeps crushing it, dive after dive even though it isn’t the best/newest out there anymore.

Used Panasonic and GoPro for diving over the last 10 years. Last month got an X4 and the difference is incredible. Rock sold stabilisation, good colour correction, and mind blowing angles you pick in post processing. The footage and stills are national geographic kind of level.

4:48 you must perform all tests at various depths, not just 5m. Cameras will perform vastly different at 30m and it would be easier to pick the best performer without zooming in.
Wow, the white balance at 3:36 on the hand for Action5 is scarily red. I guess that’s the downside of the extreme auto-balance that some of the new cameras have.
I’ve done a similar comparison underwater and agree completely with this test result. DJI Osmo Action 5 is my choice too. (I only personally own a 4 at the moment). Nice work!
In the 4, you can use the zoom function whilst in the case. Furthermore, I’d you zoom in and save that as a preset setting, it saves all the other settings without the zoom in you preset. Would be good to be able to chose that underwater whilst in the case. 👍
I hadn't heard anything about the DJI Osmo camera yet, so I really appreciate the review and recommendation. I was leaning toward the Insta 360, if only because of the chance I could catch something in the camera that was happening behind me, like a n animal swimming close to me or my dive buddy or something out in the blue when I'm cruising along a wall.
somebody else in the comments mentioned here, that it doesn't really have a 'dive' mode, but like it's predecessor, it has custom setups C1 through C5, but now you can add custom icons to them, like the dive mask in the video. maybe check that? if that's the case, this video is inaccurate in that statement...
I have recently got back into diving and used my gopro 10. Been looking into the osmo 5 quite a lot as I like that it seems more reliable not crashing when you are under/ in the water. Also like the low light capabilities of the osmo 5
I'm definitely going to order the Action 5. Been using Action 3 mounted on top of my full frame rig and this would be a great upgrade. I'm really looking forward to the low light feature and the depth censor.

I have a question the osmo action 5 has an image temperature sensor This is what helps correct color underwater when we dive. Does the sensor work when we use it with a casing? Has anyone tested if there are changes in color when diving with or without a casing? And at what depth do the buttons lock?

Hello! Question: I had a GoPro9 and now have an Osmo 5. I find that the white balance on the OSMO 5 is way too aggressive, especially where I dive (typically green water). I may have to disable the auto white balance. Do you have any experience with this?
Hello, I have the action 5 pro and am very interested into this UW mode that I saw but didn't test yet. Is it just a sticker on a preset mode or does it automatically apply a different color balance to up the red and lower the blue/green? Thanks!
Yes there is a difference. So at 02:00, it's really green and that it shot with standard video mode. Then at 04:10 you can see the colours are much more balanced, and that is shot specifically with the underwater mode. What specifically DJI is doing we don't know, but the colours are much better in underwater mode.
I have the Osmo 4, great camera, I highly recommend using a AOI 03 lens on the front when the camera is in the housing, take away all the distortion at edges and images are MUCH sharper.
From past few years I am using Olympus Tough TG Tracker for my diving and is amazing camera....but is getting old, so - looking for the OSMO Action as potential replacement. I am still unsure that 5 is really worth to go over 4, but thanks for this video.
A 360 cam from insta would create a very cool new perspective for my diving but from your list i would definitely choose the DJI osmo action 5 pro. There is no competition...
I like them all but the insta360 would probably be the best all-rounder for me (diving, biking, running, swimming, etc), although I’m sure that they would all work.
I thought for sure I'd go with the Hero 13 Black, but after looking at all the options, I'm thinking the DJI Osmo Action 5 is the one I'm going to get for my trip to Mexico in February.. I'll take any dive gear you want to get off your hands for that trip! :)
i do have a gopro 7 and a 11, it does have downsides which is mainly its software and file transfer.. been looking for a replacment and do think the DJI is worth a try.. its while balance is epic
I have been using a Sealife Micro HD and I am not happy with it after seeing this video. The images on the DJI look outstanding in comparison. Thats the one I need to get. The image quality from that camera was the best IMHO.
@DIVEindotcom I haven't made up my mind just yet. I think for video either dji, ace pro or gopro will do a better job than a mobile phone. For photo I think is a great.

I have purchased the DJI Osmo Action 5 and will be trying it out shark diving this Friday and Saturday. I have been unhappy with the GoPro Hero 12 so I am hoping this camera will perform much better underwater.
I'd probably try the DJI Osmo Action 5 at some point, has been diving gopro 12 and color grading the log footage - i think this is the best for getting the colors back. Really would like to see how is the log footage of the DJI 5 compared to the GoPro ones for editing and final results.
@@TsoorHartovSpearfishing The Depth sensor doesn't work once you place the camera inside the dive case. The OA5 can go to 20m without a case. A neat trick to get that data back if you do put in a case (and you are diving), the DJI app can connect to other sport apps like Garmin so it can take data from there. Like depths. So that'll also work for other sports, cycling etc.
Well I have the GoPro 11 and the insta 360x3 dive mainly in Scotland with the GoPro I use video lights it works well . Insta 360x3 hmm it’s ok not the best for Scottish sea loch green waters a 2m vis. Now i have been thinking of the DJI action 5 has some cool features main one battery life seems to good to be true colour correction depth gauge and the bonus to dive without a case to 20m . For me for I would choose DJI action 5 I personally think its game over for GoPro . Once I can save up I will buy DJI will be a huge upgrade for my RUclips videos. Ps great content 👍
Insta360 X4 for me just because I want to capture some unique under water images from a 360 camera... but gee I'm impressed with the DJI Osmo Action 5.
Since the family DJI Action 3 got drowned on a beach in Greece this summer (kids+tech=random results), I've been waiting for Action 5 Pro to be released to get a new family action camera. So definitely Dji Action 5 for me. Bonus points for compatibility with Action 3 battery and acessories, which I still have.
It's also waterproof 20m so a housing it's necessary and it's magnetic so much more stable when placed on top of certain tops. We find it to be a very rugged camera.
Hi. is anyone knows if you need red filter to use on the housing for scuba diving? they do not have that on the site. i am very active scuba diver and currently using the GoPro 9 for my videos but love to try the action 5pro , but totally confuse with all the underwater setting. Thanks

I own the Action 4 and find it quite good. I would definitely try the DJI Osmo Action 5 and check out if there are meaningful improvements
Sent my 5 back, yes 5 has screen improvements and duel microphone input, as for the video its self, I think the 4 is better and has a higher bit rate.

No, it's only without the housing that it can track your depth.

Amazing difference with underwater mode at 2:34 and again at 3:20. Can depth be switched on and off after recording?
From what I've heard, it can be. He even mentions that in the video during editing turning it on and off.

I'm diving now with a divevolk and a S24 ultra but definitely a dji action 5 pro is in my bucket list
We're hopefully getting our hands on the divevolk. What do you think of it? Would you reccomend?

Now i have been thinking of the DJI action 5 has some cool features main one battery life seems to good to be true colour correction depth gauge and the bonus to dive without a case to 20m . For me for I would choose DJI action 5 I personally think its game over for GoPro . Once I can save up I will buy DJI will be a huge upgrade for my RUclips videos. Ps great content 👍

Insta360 X4 for me just because I want to capture some unique under water images from a 360 camera... but gee I'm impressed with the DJI Osmo Action 5.
Since the family DJI Action 3 got drowned on a beach in Greece this summer (kids+tech=random results), I've been waiting for Action 5 Pro to be released to get a new family action camera. So definitely Dji Action 5 for me. Bonus points for compatibility with Action 3 battery and acessories, which I still have.
It's also waterproof 20m so a housing it's necessary and it's magnetic so much more stable when placed on top of certain tops. We find it to be a very rugged camera.
Hi. is anyone knows if you need red filter to use on the housing for scuba diving? they do not have that on the site. i am very active scuba diver and currently using the GoPro 9 for my videos but love to try the action 5pro , but totally confuse with all the underwater setting. Thanks
Did you find an answer? I've never heard of red filters for action cameras. Most just add a light bar.

The DJI Osmo Action 5 pro looks great, but the Insta360 go adds some versatility that is hard to pass up!
