Today on the show, lawyer and author Jeremy Christiansen joins me to talk about growing up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (colloquially referred to as "Mormonism"), the epistemology underpinning Mormon conviction, and how the house of cards that was his religious belief all came crumbling down in his late twenties. That's when he discovered the Apostolic Fathers--and never looked back.

I'm going through the same thing as you did. I no longer believe in the Mormon faith but I haven't left the church yet. I also serve a 2-year mission and was married in the temple with now two beautiful kids. My wife already knows about my faith crisis and it pains her so much. I would love to buy your book but I prefer a digital copy.

      You said
*YEs since you humbly asked. Lol*
*You didn't know? Rct forget to send the memo?*
It's hard to have a decent conversation with someone who is only trying to win an argument. So, this will be my last response.
You quoted the writings of the Fathers, which by your own belief are not scriptures so why use them to support your claim? You're not being consistent with your belief in Sola Scriptura.
It's interesting that you're using Romas 3:28 for Sola Fide. What is exactly the "works of the law" Paul is talking about? Numerous Biblical scholars concluded that those "works of Law" which Paul condemns is actually the law of Moses. Paul is not thinking of good works done by the Spirit as Catholics say are necessary for salvation. Rather, Paul is arguing that Gentiles (non-Jews) do not have to enter into the Mosaic Covenant and live like Jews to be saved. Like circumcision, dietary laws, feast days, etc. (Romans 2:25-29).
Jews and Gentiles are the main focus of Paul's letter to the people in Rome. As the first Catholic Scripture scholar, Origen of Alexandria (184-253AD) said, “In this letter Paul, like an arbiter sitting between the Jews and the Greeks, i.e., believing Gentiles, summons and invites both groups to faith in Christ in such a way as to not offend the Jews completely by destroying the Jewish ceremonies nor to cause despair in the Gentiles by affirming the observance of the law and of the letter.” (Commentary on Romans, 2.14.1). The Church in Rome is having an ethnic issue, where Jews feel that salvation comes about by following the typical ceremonial Jewish life. St. Paul says no. Both Jews and Gentiles can attain eternal life apart from the works of the Mosaic Law of Judaism. (www.stpeterinstitute.com/post/sola-fide-is-not-taught-in-romans-3-28)
The Fathers never taught Sola Fide. Read here, chnetwork.org/2010/03/16/salvation-from-the-perspective-of-the-early-church-fathers/
Also, you only mentioned James 2:23, why not start from James 2:14 to 26, especially 20-24? Is it because it will become obvious that James is not teaching sola fide?
*14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.*
18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that-and shudder.
*20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless[d]? 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,”[e] and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.*
25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

Mormons using the KJ Bible is deliberate of course. The actual Bible is a Catholic Book, and no one is authorized to change a line of it. The KJV, Luther's choice, leaves out 7 books directly involving the priesthood and divine authority of Christ. Luther's bible excludes: Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, 1st & 2nd Maccabees, and certain text from Esther and Daniel. Luther eliminated those books because they held data that countered his heretical power seizing agenda.

It is a big difference but that is because Latter-Day Saints do not worship in their temples. They perform and receive ordinances for themselves and for the dead in the temples. People aren’t allowed to just go and pray like in Catholic Churches. Latter-Day Saints worship in chapels on Sunday mornings. Everyone should be there so the ordinance workers who staff the temples should be at their local chapel (ward meetinghouse as they are sometimes called). A LDS ward is roughly equivalent to a Catholic Parish.

Personal experiences need to be closely monitored. The enemy can create WONDERFUL experiences to lead a person where he wants them to be ... and then the experiences become otherwise. 'Discernment of spirits' by St. Ignatius is one source to begin the safeguard process. Experience can be real ... but the origin of the experience needs to be held in question until solid data available. Bottom line with the saints is that spiritual EXPERIENCES per se are never to be sought. Saint on saint points to this.

Well, any thinking person seeking truth should wonder where the Bible came from since Christ did not give a Bible. What makes the Bible authoritative? Which comes first the Church or the Bible? And those who seek the Church Christ established will become Catholic, and those who seek the Bible that Christ never gave will be church hopping every time they don't like their preacher because all the protestant churches gotta be equally true but they also gotta be equally false so just find a preacher that makes your bosom warm and set the Holy Spirit on fire in your stomach, never mind that it probably heart burn you're feelimg.😂
