Just played it and I wanted to say, this is hands down the best way to start the 2019 year. A very great game from a great game series, I love everything about this remake and then some. Even got to play as one of my favorites Claire Redfield.

Bariand in the way the remake work in this one I believe whoever you choose first will do the main path to the end aka Leon version of ps1 re2 so if it Claire you pick first then will go down that route. Once that is completed you have the option to go the other canon route when you select your second playthrough no matter who you pick. IGN didn’t do it properly they didn’t check the menu options fully whereas they made a big deal out of it
I copped this game a week early and beat it like 3 times and playing through my 4th time right now. The replay value is amazing because of the unpredictable zombies and the relentless Tyrant. Once you beat the game on the “2nd run” you unlock “The 4th survivor” with playable Hunk. Which is absolutely fucking hard!!!! This game is terrifying and deserves a 10/10 for best remake in history. CANNOT WAIT FOR RE3 NEMESIS REMAKE!!!

This is it, the near perfect RE formula. The most important things to have in a RE game are as follows: 1. Atmosphere. It's gotta feel gritty, grimy, nasty, SCARY. Even seasoned horror vets who don't get scared appreciate a thick horror atmosphere. This involves mostly good lighting, a creepy setting and amazing audio. I prefer a creepy soundtrack to silent ambience any day. 2. Monsters. Idc if it's zombies, lickers, hunters, or something entirely new. But it's gotta have wet, slimy, nasty monsters, and a lot. Not like RE7; The molded were cool, until you realize, that's it. I mean some have a Krauser arm, some walk on all fours, some are fat and spit acid, but they all look the same and that's a shame. Each enemy should look uniquely different so each encounter goes more like "Wtf is that?!" As opposed to "Oh, another one of those!" 3. Limited everything. Limited ammo, limited healing, limited inventory, I love that shit. Make me really look for those extra bullets and herbs. Limited saves on hard mode should continue. I'd say limiting resources should be top priority for RE development, but don't bother if the atmosphere and monsters are off. I want to be between a rock and a hard place in these games, risk a bite, take it down, or find another way around? Limited resources, monsters, and atmosphere are vital for that lovely panic to arrive. 4. Puzzles. The area layout and the way you progress should be a puzzle, with progress routes blocked by key items, side rooms guarded by monsters, and key items blocked by puzzles. Puzzles should be complex enough to make you think, yet simple enough to figure out in less than 30 minutes. RE2 had perfect puzzles, the best being the plug puzzle and the portable safe puzzles. I want more puzzles like that, less puzzles like pushing blocks, or lining up lights or moving statues. And perhaps more puzzles that force you to examine a room for clues while dodging the monsters within, like the east office puzzle where you need to unlock the two locks to your desk. Good shit. And lastly, it needs to be long enough to feel worthwhile. This can be done with 6-8 hour 1st runs with multiple characters, 10-20 hour runs if a single character is used, and extra modes DLC FREE to extend the campaign further. Challenge runs like the 4th survivor and Tofu are great, Mercenarries is a great way to extend playtime, and paid DLC should only be dished out if the base game can sustain 20 hours of fresh feeling gameplay. If your 60$ game has only a 5 hour campaign and no alternate modes of play, I'm not buying your dlc because I'm not buying your game either.

Now that I've checked out all the reviews, i don't know why, I feel that I needed this game to be this good. The Evil Within games were all right I suppose, but I haven't played a great third person action/survival horror game since Resi 4. And what a great game that was. One of the greatest games ever made.
Your life is not complete if you never play Resident Evil! I spent countless hours on RE1, RE2, and RE3 (I love RE series overall but I couldn't play as much after the first 3 since I was busier with school and stuff) The graphics looks amazing!
Been gaming since the days of Mario 3. Re is my fav. series and for me, code Veronica was the pinnacle. Ignore comments from people who try to defend the games frustrations by telling you "welcome to RE, go back to call of duty, you want your hand held?..ect. All you really need to know is that you only shoot if you have to, pay attention to your map and make mental notes, never use a healing item unless your on danger, save anytime you've made progress, and again, learn the map. Survival horror is about saving your resources. Do not waste them.
So looking forward to this and with this hopefully selling well, which I can see it doing, hopefully capcom will see fit to remake resident evil 3 too eventually

Imo Remakes and Remaster never deserve a 10, actually most games in general don't deserve a 10 especially RDR2 because it's just the same outdated gameplay formula and clunky controls.
I know they did Anniversary but imagine the original Tomb Raider getting remade like this in a similar fashion. It was genuinely tense on PS1 going through those Tombs and I don’t really think the series ever recaptured that sense of dread around the corner. Anyway, really excited for RE2. I missed the PS1 version so I’m buzzing for this.
The binaural audio is 10. Works great and the sound design is mostly consistent and conveys the feeling of being there. Unfortunately the music is not there on the same level...
I've got to be honest, as a kid that grew up playing the original the new camera angle disappointed me. Then the more I looked into it and the more I saw had gone into it I was won over. It looks absolutely incredible. This could be potentially the best game in the entire series.
Not really A&B it's more like their own campaign from their perspective like for example in the old resident evil 2 for ps1 Clair A never fought Mr.X only William Clair B did but it wasn't Canon, now Clair scenario can fight both birkin and Mr. X so it's A&B mixed
This remake is trule amazing, it deserves all the praise it gets and is great for both oldschool fans and newcomers alike, with this and Mega Man 11 I'm glad to say "welcome back, Capcom", now if only Konami would take notes.
IGN reviwer didn't undesrtand A/B scenarios and thought Leon A and claire A was everything thats was in the game, then had the audacity to call out the game for lack of content.
@Si Filey The entire game was designed around the fact that Leon can't move and shoot at the same time. giving Leon the ability to walk and shoot will break the game.
I love the direction Capcom has been taking with Resident Evil after re5 plunged the series into action territory. They’ve gone back to their roots and revived one of their best games ever made. Ubisoft needs to do the same with the Assassin’s Creed series that is suffering from an identity crisis and do a modern remake Assassins Creed 2.

So looking forward to this and with this hopefully selling well, which I can see it doing, hopefully capcom will see fit to remake resident evil 3 too eventually

God I hate when a reviewer refuses to give something a perfect score because “nothing can be perfect.” A perfect score doesn’t mean its a perfect product, just the negatives are completely outweighed by the positives for you.

Nowadays if your games aren't made by Naughty Dog or Rockstar, you'll never get a 10, it doesn't matter how good they are. For me this one is a solid 10/10, I can't find one single complain about it.

Imo Remakes and Remaster never deserve a 10, actually most games in general don't deserve a 10 especially RDR2 because it's just the same outdated gameplay formula and clunky controls.

@Callum Ward God Of War and UC4 are overrated as hell. Doom and Red Dead respectively were better games those years.
I know they did Anniversary but imagine the original Tomb Raider getting remade like this in a similar fashion. It was genuinely tense on PS1 going through those Tombs and I don’t really think the series ever recaptured that sense of dread around the corner. Anyway, really excited for RE2. I missed the PS1 version so I’m buzzing for this.
I rate it 10 out of 10, high replay value.

The binaural audio is 10. Works great and the sound design is mostly consistent and conveys the feeling of being there. Unfortunately the music is not there on the same level...
I've got to be honest, as a kid that grew up playing the original the new camera angle disappointed me. Then the more I looked into it and the more I saw had gone into it I was won over. It looks absolutely incredible. This could be potentially the best game in the entire series.

Not really A&B it's more like their own campaign from their perspective like for example in the old resident evil 2 for ps1 Clair A never fought Mr.X only William Clair B did but it wasn't Canon, now Clair scenario can fight both birkin and Mr. X so it's A&B mixed

This remake is trule amazing, it deserves all the praise it gets and is great for both oldschool fans and newcomers alike, with this and Mega Man 11 I'm glad to say "welcome back, Capcom", now if only Konami would take notes.

@Si Filey The entire game was designed around the fact that Leon can't move and shoot at the same time. giving Leon the ability to walk and shoot will break the game.

I love the direction Capcom has been taking with Resident Evil after re5 plunged the series into action territory. They’ve gone back to their roots and revived one of their best games ever made. Ubisoft needs to do the same with the Assassin’s Creed series that is suffering from an identity crisis and do a modern remake Assassins Creed 2.
