Her frame data is solid if you’re talking about startup and active frames, but she has arguably the most end lag in the game period. You miss any one of your moves and you’re dead if you didn’t space well, which, in ultimate where every move is safe, is absolutely awful.
I'll give you a good run down, she's good in the sense that she can deal high damage within one good combo carrying a person from 0 to roughly 50-80% if everything goes right, but if your opponent knows how to di that goes down the hole real quick. She has decent active frames and start up, but like everyone else if you were to pair her shit with the specials she has it adds on to her surmounted end lag by the end of it which is one hell of a price to pay. Not only that her hitboxes are a bit too small which causes her to have spacing issues that is further worsened by her weak shield pressure which heightens her bait and punish playstyle to the extreme, but in a bad way. A lot of characters in the game either has a good spacing option to inflict shield pressure through damage, an attack that leaves the opponent in more shield stun to render any counter attacks unpunishable, or can deal heavy shield damage to break shield, Bayonetta has none of that and that puts her in one of the worse positions to get through neutral which is practically a mine field for her if you try to initiate any sort of aggression. Overall she has a "good" kit on paper, but she struggles to work in a real fight cause she trades off more than she gives back in providing a consistency in her game plan that would allow her to kill reasonably rather than her insane necessity to read, and hope for the best that the opponent fucks up to the point an opening presents itself, and in high level play that's not going to easily occur as people who know how to play neutral are not that illogical in throwing out a high risk move out of nowhere as their attack starter.

It sounds like R.O.B. just reflects (or is Nintendo's idea of what his game is perfectly executed in Smash) what his game is about perfectly while also being a competitive fighter to me. At least from the limited information I dug up on the internet. He's just so thoughtfully designed, Arm means fast but short-ranged, thrusters mean strong but short-range, Gyro is an incredible little tool, the Lazers are good at out-ranging opponents, though both of those projectiles can be reflected, and the Thrusters is just an easy-to-use recovery, and the spin is meant to be a multi-purposed "reset-to-nuetral" tool. This is an overall basic yet multi-layered design that creates so many potential interactions! It's honestly brilliant, now why didn't they try this approach to character's like Jr or Luigi? Well, with Luigi you can just not practice the Grab infinites and probably have as much fun though with Jr? You kinda need to master his projectiles and approach options in order to be on equal footing, which while they most certainly aren't combo's that you need to grind out in the lab, they are still overcentralized or just simply outclassed in the wrong scenario. Then again, the moments where they are meant to be used are probably supposed to be a representation of Jr's genius with manipulating boss phases with his projectiles and his attacks though that does kind of create an endless cycle that you kinda have to work very hard for, right? Couple things, 1, I'd argue that Rob has some more brand recognition than you give him credit for, due to being a key presence/ common annoyance in subspace emissary in brawl, and also with his appearance in Mario kart ds. Also 2 for the pokemon analogy, I'd go with the exp share instead of the lucky egg to show bringing him out as a secondary, or life orb+ wonder guard or sheer force to show that he's better than average, but still more of a jack of all trades. Otherwise nice job, great video.
Eh, only thing I don't like is the down tilt being -5 but you can parry it and sometimes spotdodge a grab follow up, I don't really mind fighting ROB tbh, Roy is more annoying imo because of his hitboxes being in his arm vs swordies who don't have that
The fact that he is apparently this good is surprising considering I didn't think much of him as a fighter. To me he was just that plot twist in Subspace and nothing else.
I'd be interested to see a 'why no one plays Pichu'. When the game came out I assumed he sacrifices fragility for strength but he seems worse than Pikachu according to the community
I remember playing ROB in Brawl because of his role in the story. And in Smash 4 I played him because of the Brawl days even though he wasn't as good. And in Ultimate I have become the bane of everyone's existence. It is good to see how broken ROB has gotten over time because I have been there since the beginning.
Been a R.O.B. main since brawl. really glad to see he has gained popularity recently. ironically even tho he is popular I never have a chance to practice and fight against other R.O.B. mains.
I remember back when Brawl came out and Lucario, ROB and Wolf were the only secret, new characters in Brawl. Of the 3 ROB was by far the one people cared the least, so he got the least attention, and the most antagonism. Then, when Smash 4 leaked, and we were watching people unlocking the characters for the first time, still holding out hope that the leaked roster from months ago was the final one, and then everyone getting pissed off after ROB was unlocked and the message that all the characters in the game were unlocked. Someone made a fanart of ROB dressed as Ridley saying "do you love me now?" while crying. Things have changed.
R.O.B has been one of my mains ever since he was introduced in Brawl. I always loved him, and Fox. Olimar and Lucas were 2 of my other favorites but they destroyed both of them in the newer titles so I am happy to hear at least R.O.B is so viable
Rob has been slept on since smash 4. Nobody paid attention to his insane advantage state in that game, he got buffs in ultimate and went under the radar through all of the patches.
I know you probably get a lot of people saying "do this" and "do that", but I would really love to see a video on why people don't play toon link, I feel like the character could use some recognition since he's usually ignored due to link and yink Outside of that I gotta say you're really underrated dude, keep up the good work ^^
I've been playing R.O.B. since 2006. I legit mained ZSS in brawl and 2nd R.O.B., then solomained R.O.B. in Smash 4 and dropped ZSS even though she was S tier, and finally in Ultimate, R.O.B. went from high B+ tier to S tier. I've waited far too long for his moment to shine.
I’ve been playing since Smash 4, Wiigi taught me a lot of useful tools. Back when it was a C Tier character. Now it is top 10. You have no idea how far this character has come.
Pretty sure Steves have been fighting ROBs nonstop since they are the most prevalent characters in the game. Since plenty of Steves still pass the ROB army, I wouldn't say they are hard counters the way Minmin seems to be. They aren't bad in the matchup if you know what you're doing though.
Here before it premieres. Why is he played so much? Well he has great boxing options in fair, f-tilt, up-tilt, and the infamous down-tilt at frame 3 iirc. Also Gryo is a very strong projectile that makes him very good at keep away and forcing you to play his game
Has spikes an item like Diddy, not only a charge recovery so if you're a movement players you'll always have a full boost. His arm attacks are litterally robotic speed, he's got some fast light attacks and arrears with great range or boxing head to head. Has many ways to spike (said twice because he's obscure and there is a few really hard spikes like his item spike.) Rob is heavy in all games but he's still Farley neutral in a lot of air and ground moves and attacks. He's not super slow or quick but me maintains range and can control ground work very nicely. He may not be able to always half pipe attack you but he is able to put out great dps and he has an awesome charging B Nsig. Since it charges passive and gains attack its nice extra dps on hit and is pretty fast.
Versatile all range can be rushed but also enjoyed being rushed. Can stomp and trap vis neutral if your a movement god and can punish knock back and recoveries. Hes also able to use and pause his recovery unlike most characters who can get gimped from recovery
I get told alllll the time this is because I have “sheik main goggles” but I personally LOVE that ROB is dominant. ROB is very easy but is ultimately a fundies character with some bullshit if you wanna learn it. ROBs being everywhere means most of us know what set ups to look out for, and his massive size and horrible disadvantage makes hitting him so damn satisfying. If I mess up a combo on a ROB I still usually just get an extension. Lots of sheik combos that require super precise timings are just bufferable again Rob specifically. And even tho Rob is easy, someone with no game sense isn’t gonna succeed. And my love for Rob is at an all time high now that Steve is taking over.
ROB being everywhere is so hype for spectators because when someone hits a ROB they get the chance to display their advantage state in full effect. Hitting a Steve feels like getting a dollar for an 8 hour shift.
I mean, ROB looks like Wall-E, and that movie came out around the same time as Brawl, or at least that's how I remember it. I feel like his design is equal parts goofy and cool looking.
I think gyro and beam setups require more advanced knowledge than just fundamentals. You also do mention Rob can just be destroyed by characters with a good combo game and if a player has bad autopilot. Considering Rob’s best long ranged tools like gyro and beam take time to fully charge to be used at the their best, I believe as the meta against Rob develops he’ll fall behind characters with more consistent range control like Sephiroth and Min Min
damn I've been maining ROB since his inclusion in Brawl, i've never been anywhere near competitive play but it's kinda nuts he's actually in the spotlight now
"no branding for ROB" I present to you: The entire Subspace Emissary XD Of course that's within the smash universe so of course no *real* branding just like you said
He really doesn’t have many disadvantages other than getting combo’d a little bit. He can zone and he can box. On top of that he’s simple to use and REALLY fun to play as. Complain all you want about how prevalent he is in the meta but I think he was designed very well in this game.
Having too many advantages and no disadvantages is the opposite of being "designed well". A character shouldn't be great at zoning AND boxing, without sufficient weaknesses.
Bro, ROB is a robot, people find robots cooler than say Wii Fit loser. SO that might explain why people won't mind picking up a cool roll spamming metal robot.
@@VarsIII you're modest, but I think it's just as relevant at this time in the meta. A lot of Art of Smash was released as the game was being developed, and now the dust is finally settling for the first time.
It would be great to have a video on Kazuya , the fact that everyone cries about this character yet he is nowhere to be seen in the higher level of play (exept for Riddles who is absolutely insane). It would also be a good oportunity for you to give us your opinion on "overpowered" characters (recently Steve and Kazu) and the way the community handles them.
Why no one plays Banjo. The character has so much tech that a pro could abuse, is well rounded, some of the best projectiles, and a good recovery. Not says he would be the top tier pick, but atleast being at the bottom of top tier.

Ehh I still think not many people know about him in the same way that they do a character like Mario lol
About the Pokémon comparison, agreed (although you probably meant Magic Guard instead of Wonder Guard 😉)
I’ve been a ROB main since his debut in brawl and I’m glad he’s finally meta, but it also feels bad knowing a lot of people hate playing against him.
Are you surprised? No one likes fighting against Zoner and Projectile characters
Eh, only thing I don't like is the down tilt being -5 but you can parry it and sometimes spotdodge a grab follow up, I don't really mind fighting ROB tbh, Roy is more annoying imo because of his hitboxes being in his arm vs swordies who don't have that
actually super fun to play against, because he makes the game entirely skill-based. If you're better, you'll win, if you aren't, you'll lose.
ROB was my og main back in Brawl when I wasn't playing or thinking smash competitively and just playing against my sister. Good ol' times
The fact that he is apparently this good is surprising considering I didn't think much of him as a fighter. To me he was just that plot twist in Subspace and nothing else.
You should do a “Why everybody hates “ title to show in why people hate playing against that character
I love how one of the points that he made is rob is braindead
I'd be interested to see a 'why no one plays Pichu'. When the game came out I assumed he sacrifices fragility for strength but he seems worse than Pikachu according to the community
Well I only play as ROB cuz he was the first dude I played Smash with in Brawl, also I like robots, sooo
I remember playing ROB in Brawl because of his role in the story. And in Smash 4 I played him because of the Brawl days even though he wasn't as good. And in Ultimate I have become the bane of everyone's existence. It is good to see how broken ROB has gotten over time because I have been there since the beginning.
Inkling: Who are you
Rob: I'm you, but stronger
The only reason I play R.O.B is that one AVGN video
Been a R.O.B. main since brawl. really glad to see he has gained popularity recently. ironically even tho he is popular I never have a chance to practice and fight against other R.O.B. mains.
Now that this series is out, I’d love to see my girl Samus! She’s becoming more and more popular as time goes on :)
I was on rob all the way back in sm4sh and I’m happy to see him performing well nowadays. Now I wait for duck hunt to shine
I know you probably get a lot of people saying "do this" and "do that", but I would really love to see a video on why people don't play toon link, I feel like the character could use some recognition since he's usually ignored due to link and yink
Outside of that I gotta say you're really underrated dude, keep up the good work ^^
I used to play as rob all the time in brawl. I'm so glad he's getting the attention he should have now
I like that one of the main villains from the Smash story is actually powerful
I've been playing R.O.B. since 2006. I legit mained ZSS in brawl and 2nd R.O.B., then solomained R.O.B. in Smash 4 and dropped ZSS even though she was S tier, and finally in Ultimate, R.O.B. went from high B+ tier to S tier. I've waited far too long for his moment to shine.
Rob is an elder god, just like g&w + duck hunt
Just for information ken and ryu light down tilt is frame 2 (and maybe best move for them)
Would be nice some video about cloud and why nobody plays him
I actually started maining ROB without looking at tierlists or watching games. I just liked the play style.
I’ve been playing since Smash 4, Wiigi taught me a lot of useful tools. Back when it was a C Tier character. Now it is top 10. You have no idea how far this character has come.
He was found to be a Steve counterpick, so everyone's going to play R.O.B. now
hes not a steve counterpick
Pretty sure Steves have been fighting ROBs nonstop since they are the most prevalent characters in the game. Since plenty of Steves still pass the ROB army, I wouldn't say they are hard counters the way Minmin seems to be. They aren't bad in the matchup if you know what you're doing though.
*MKLeo Activated*
Here before it premieres. Why is he played so much? Well he has great boxing options in fair, f-tilt, up-tilt, and the infamous down-tilt at frame 3 iirc. Also Gryo is a very strong projectile that makes him very good at keep away and forcing you to play his game
I don’t think a character has ever been as big both in game and in the meta as R.O.B. in Ultimate.
B I G
Has spikes an item like Diddy, not only a charge recovery so if you're a movement players you'll always have a full boost. His arm attacks are litterally robotic speed, he's got some fast light attacks and arrears with great range or boxing head to head.
Has many ways to spike (said twice because he's obscure and there is a few really hard spikes like his item spike.)
Rob is heavy in all games but he's still Farley neutral in a lot of air and ground moves and attacks. He's not super slow or quick but me maintains range and can control ground work very nicely. He may not be able to always half pipe attack you but he is able to put out great dps and he has an awesome charging B Nsig. Since it charges passive and gains attack its nice extra dps on hit and is pretty fast.
He has a A stun lock. But its hard to pull off vs a real person unless yoy read the dodge wif
Versatile all range can be rushed but also enjoyed being rushed. Can stomp and trap vis neutral if your a movement god and can punish knock back and recoveries. Hes also able to use and pause his recovery unlike most characters who can get gimped from recovery
Brand recognition... How bout Subspace Embassy where he's a major player in the whole f-in thing?
2:45 Correction: R.O.B. (Robot) was a perhipheral for the Famicom (NES), not the Super Famicom (SNES). :3
Considering Rob’s best long ranged tools like gyro and beam take time to fully charge to be used at the their best, I believe as the meta against Rob develops he’ll fall behind characters with more consistent range control like Sephiroth and Min Min
damn I've been maining ROB since his inclusion in Brawl, i've never been anywhere near competitive play but it's kinda nuts he's actually in the spotlight now
great video, your voice is one of my favourites on youtube right now!
Would love to see a why noone plays on banjo
I would like a “why no one plays toon link”. Just to put some notoriety on our boy
Another one you gotta do is why everyone plays Palutena
"no branding for ROB"
I present to you:
The entire Subspace Emissary
XD
Of course that's within the smash universe so of course no *real* branding just like you said
12:13 that edge guard thou 👀
Excellent video. I secondary ROB and this video describes my motivations for picking him up perfectly 🥰
Little Mac’s Down Tilt is also frame 3
I'm guessing Lucario would be a "no one plays"…
Maybe cover?
This channel is low-key the new "Art of Smash" series for the current SSBU meta.
I wouldn't go that far. Art of Smash teaches you how to play the game, while my videos analyze the game itself and the characters.
@@VarsIII you're modest, but I think it's just as relevant at this time in the meta. A lot of Art of Smash was released as the game was being developed, and now the dust is finally settling for the first time.
so this is where the leo rob came from
Not that anyone is gonna pick up rosalina, but starbits have helped me immensely against rob.
Because he is our Robotic Operating Buddy!
I TOLD you! Why everyone plays works so well in smash compared to league. This is so good and I cant wait for the next installment
We going to need that Luigi video 👀👀👀
It would be great to have a video on Kazuya , the fact that everyone cries about this character yet he is nowhere to be seen in the higher level of play (exept for Riddles who is absolutely insane). It would also be a good oportunity for you to give us your opinion on "overpowered" characters (recently Steve and Kazu) and the way the community handles them.
I always use R.O.B. He just has awesome powers and he’s perfect for anything.
He plays very well
MkLeo using ROB at Double Down GF was hype af.
Why no one plays Banjo. The character has so much tech that a pro could abuse, is well rounded, some of the best projectiles, and a good recovery. Not says he would be the top tier pick, but atleast being at the bottom of top tier.
I play rob cause the first time I played smash I chose random and got rob and was immediately endeared to his character
Two Words : Down Tilt
no but seriously that move is One of the best in the game, kinda ironic thinking Rob has Always been a Low tier until now
11:50 and hard cries on Twitter
He's broken, easy, and cheeses stocks like no other
For whatever God forsaken reason, I main Mac. My down tilt ties rob's at fame 3. But I can't even imagine how much nicer my life would be if mine were -5 on shield instead of the -13 that it is.
Seriously, I LITTERLY thought I was ORIGINAL when I started playing R.O.B. like A WEEK AGO OMG HAHAHA
It feels good to hear someone else complain about ROB Down tilt lmao.
You didn't even mention him being a boss in the og Starfox.
He's just so cute lol. He go beep boop
