This time my CEX Challenge takes on a different spin, I have £50 to spend in CEX and see how many Retro Games I can get for that amount.
Usually in these challenges I set three simple rules which are:
1 - Stay within budget...
2 - No doubles, do not buy any games I already own...
3 - No sports titles, unless its a boxing game...
But on this occasion as it is a CEX Retro Game Challenge only 2 rules apply:

So join me OGDuffy as we visit my local CEX and see exactly how many Retro Video Games we can get for our £50 budget?
I search the shelves of my local CEX and show all game ranges from retro games through to the modern titles that CEX have to offer... But my main focus this time out... How many Retro Games from CEX for £50...

I collect for the dreamcast, 4 games left for a complete pal set 213/217. I’m also 7 games from a complete uk pal original Xbox collection, currently sitting at 778 games for that system.
Nice one , Dreamcast is a beauty for me . I collect for it but i collect USA and pal so it rough . Nearly have complete usa. Shooters are my fav on Dreamcast . They still make games for Dreamcast too. It will live forever
@@jonathanfraser684 I just bought Postal for the dreamcast as a new release, looking forward to trying that. I’ve got a few USA games including Seaman, Elementary Gimmick Gear, D2 and Typing the Dead. Dreamcast is my favourite console.

Oh shit, that's Sittingbourne lol. Monster Attack is the alternate title for the incredible Earth Defence Force. As an old school gamer you'd probably even love the latest entries in the series they're tremendous fun with a lot of replay value.

The reason why 360 collecting is so popular is because there's so many of the games for sale. 360 is becoming more or less vintage now. As for getting that over PS3 I don't know because they both have exclusive games. For example you can't get Forza on playstation and you can't get granturismo on Xbox. PS3 and Xbox 360 were peak of games where graphics were becoming good and it's not all about online game play like the modern games of today

Pandemonium is great, i had it back in the day as a demo from the old PS1 magazines. Also had the demo of ghost in the shell. Wish i kept hold of them now!

I’ve got about 200 dreamcast games in the loft, no games room here 😢 love the console though well worth picking up if cheap but often very expensive

Pandemoniums a great game Duffy, difficult but enjoyable. Favourite tomb raider is tr2 as using the boat around the Venice level blew my mind at the time and wipeout was my 1st ever Ps1 game so good choice 👍

Great vid as usual OG. Pandemonium is a great game, definitely worth picking up. That Batman game is a collection of Arkham asylum and Arkham city, both of which are on PS3 and are pretty cheap if you don’t have them already 😊

Mine personally was tomb raider 2,I bought the remasters on ps5 and I'll say this,thank god you can save anywhere,makes it more fun and less stressful 👌 completed them all on ps1 and the pain was real 😢
Remakes sound appealing with that save feature to be honest 😉
For my upcoming Birthday I am getting a PS2 with a load of games. Already received San Andreas and Simpson Hit & Run. Will have to start visiting my local CEX to get the great games I used to own.
If I had to choose then it will be Tomb Raider II but I really enjoyed III as well. Completed the first three. Just struggled with the 4th one.
If I was a collector then it would be the black label instead of the Platinum edition. If you go back to the 80s, I owned a few games on compilations, but if collecting then the original version.
Some very well priced items on the Ps2 matey so you will do very well indeed on that one matey 😉

Micro machines 4 player shared controller was quality! One player used buttons and other used the d pad. It was so much fun

The retro debate is really interesting. For me it's anything prior to the generation before last - so the PS3, 360, Wii era and before. Scary to think I was a teenager when those consoles came out 😢

That was Wip3out Wipeout 3 and its a beauty. I picked up Driver 2 couple weeks ago ,it was 5 bucks but had a variant cover worth a bit more on ebay , all it says is this plays better on playstation 2 printed on fron cover. Collect the variant for games you love , GTA ps1 games are legendary. Put the game in cd player and listen to the music

Ecco! I loved this game as a kid. I remember thinking how beautiful the graphics were back then, and I just loved to swim around without any real purpose.
I consider anything over 20 years old to be retro. That means PS3 isn't quite there yet, but give it a few more years and it will be.
If you are able to get a black label ps1 game first, then I don't think you need to bother with a platinum version. If you get the platinum firs because that's what was available at the time, then I think getting a black label is fine if it's at a reasonable price.
Ecco is a fun game and I have now played it some more so getting the hang of it 😉

@@OGDuffy I never actually owned a PS3. I got priced out by that console, so I went with the Wii instead. I didn't stay with Nintendo very long though, went back to Playstation for the PS4 & PS5. PS1 is my favourite retro system. Today I treated myself and ordered the black label version of Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped on Ebay, using vouchers I'd save up from my Nectar points.
I had Xenon 2 on the Amiga. I didn’t realise the Bomb The Bass signature soundtrack was a John Carpenter rip off at the time! Back when sampling was considered creative & not plagairism.
Have yet to play it so will keep an ear for the John Carpenter sample 😉
That monster attack is the 1st earth defence force game. I got it for a fiver five years ago in cash converters. Its a great game and part of a great series

Great pick ups OG. I am and always will be a Nintendo fan boy so megadrive I only got to love years later but ecco the dolphin always Intrigued me, was quite a unique game and as you say the magazines gave it high scores across the board, so was always interested in that. Great price 👍
Need to invest a bit of time into it but doesn’t seem to bad and at £6 it would be rude not too 😉🍺
I suppose anything that's not in production is arguably retro, but many of the games don't really change that much - so maybe there's an argument there. Next year the 360 will be 20 years old... Surely it's considered retro.
Valid point matey personally I consider PS3 and 360 as retro and both seem very popular for collectors

Ecco IS good; it’s atmospheric and beautiful but OH BOY is it hard. Like sooooo hard. But I keep coming back, maybe I’ll complete it one day…

A pass, I think. I prefer the original single editions. I note Cex list Platinum PS1 games as separate listings, typically £2 less than the original editions, from looking on their website, so the question about original or Platinum, the original seems to be more desirable. Great pick ups, Ecco does get challenging so a read of the manual should help.
I think the originals will always be more expensive and for me more desirable. Since been told that there were alternate covers for GTA 2 so looks like another GTA for the collection 🤣😉
My 2 favourite consoles are mega drive and ps2... Great video and yes sir I do like a beer 🍻

I had my Star Was 360 Xbox from day one and still until this day, its a R2D2 theme xbox 360 with a C3P0 Gold controller
I think it makes r2d2 noises when turned on.

Gta 2 what a game duffy buddy 😊 I much prefer the old top down style for gta. Yeah echo the dolphin.... mmmm.... remember getting that for Christmas back in the day and thinking what the hell am I ment to do 😂 xenon on the master system aint the best bud, saying that mind it could be as I was playing r-type and submarine attack just before playing it
That said Steve very few shooters can come close to RType…. Such an amazing game 😉🍺
Blood bowl are fun games but there never seems to be replay ability on them I always enjoy them for an hour or two but once campaign done that’s about it , it’s not got the online features like fifa / ea or madden etc. my last purchase was a switch edition

I would say anything 20+ years is retro , so I would say ps3 is entering retro when was it 2006 release! Tell you what OG , I’ve been collecting a lot of switch games, so much versatility in their games and great to collect for even tho it’s modern !
Switch collecting is very popular… Guess it’s because it’s still a physical game so worth collecting for 😉
The Arkham collection for PS4 is definitely worth getting as it's a remaster similar to the uncharted collection 👍

I’m buying all my old PS2 games, prices for a lot of ps3 games though are dirt cheap. For a tenner you can walk out with 10 cracking games for the ps3, really easy and cheap to get a collection going

Last genuine retro console? I'd say anything in the 5th Generation - PS1 etc. Anything onwards I just can't accept as retro lol

9:45 that is decent, it has Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, Remastered with improved graphics, performance etc etc if you wanted to play either of those games thats the version to pick up for sure

The snes didnt need the extra cartridge ports for micro machines as their controllers had enough face buttons for two players to use one controller making it 4 player!

I know you haven’t played it but Pandemonium isn’t a 3D platformer. I guess you could consider it 2.5d though.

Ps1 to ps4 i collect for certain games what keeps value. From silent hill to gravity rush back to the box set of killzone trilogy.
I dont see x box games keeping value or worth unlike other consoles
Love these debates always good and healthy… Personally prefer collecting PS3 over 360 but know how popular 360 collecting is…. Personal preference I suppose 😉🍺

Ps3/360 as contentious as it is im considering retro. Mainly as theyve got to that point where gamers that grew up on those systems have started to get nostalgic for them. The recent price hikes on those games are testiment to just how popular theyre becoming. For me collecting for the 360 was out of necessity back when i started. As i was skint snd needed bang for buck gaming which back then it offered in spades. You can still find bargains for it still so its deffo a console worth owning and collecting for. But those bargains are pretty much amoung the aaa games that sold in high numbers so theres less current demand for them. The games that are flying at the moment are those considered lesser known hidden gems. Thankfully those are always the games i gravitate towards first as iv seen demand amoung earlier systems go exactly the same route so my advice is ro grab the gems first and then get the aaa later when the price drops. That way youre picking up every game at its lowest possible price and youll not miss out on any. Plus if you play it right youre collection will increase in price which puts you in a great position to transition over to the next generation of xonsoles and get a jump start. It does get on my tits when certain gamers complain about rising prices when they didnt get interested unrill they discovered the games were rusing in price. Those of us that were in on the ground floor were there for the love of the games rather than looking at £££ signs thinking we might be able to flip for a quick peofit. Theres no quick profit in game collecting. As you have to wait at least a decade to start seeing any potential pay off should you chose to sell up

Be considered an expensive hobby but as we know it doesn’t have to be… Especially with PS3 games… Cheap as chips 😉 And great games available at the cheap prices too 😀🍺

I collect for the switch and ps4 currently got 300 switch games and 200 ps4 games i only go for the games im going to play ive also just started collecting for the 3ds got about 70 so far

I personally think PS2, Gameboy Advance etc are definitely retro and the PS3/360 are absolutely entering retro territory especially with the Xbox store closing down in 2 weeks or so and the price surges that will follow. I loved both systems and I played more Xbox 360 due to online gaming with friends but now I'm going back and picking up all the titles I missed for me now beloved PS3. Genuinely adore that system and library.
Also I have zero fond memories of Ecco 😂 that game infuriated me as a kid

Why is Pokémon fire red £70? I'd love to play the game again but £70 for a game boy advance game no thank you. It's when he's looking in the outside display you can see it
Original Pokemon games do fetch a good amount but to be honest I’m really not big into Pokemon so don’t check out the prices too often.

So a double is not a double when there are different variants of the game , for instance I have 3 copies of Turok 2 on the N64 , normal version , 1 came with a HMV CD soundtrack and the other a Dixons soundtrack , also retro wise I don’t consider PS3 or XBOX 360 retro thought they are great to collect for , PS2 and OG Xbox are borderline retro

I collect for ps2 but especially ps3.. ps3 over xbox 360 as ps3 was my first proper console I was late to it then others my age (26) but I do get 360 exclusives or if it's cheaper than ps3 and available I'll get it on 360. My first console was the wii that I shared with my siblings. I think ps2 is the max for retro.. I don't want ps3 to be retro😂 ps1 is definitely retro to me coz it came out before I was born😅 I love the driver series! I got 1, 2, 3 and San Francisco collectors edition
Ps1 is oldest I collect for, but I fussy on it. Actually eldest might be gameboy. I collect some gameboy as I have a gba sp. I collect ps1-ps4 (ps5 is digital rn), xbox 360, xbox one, switch, gb, gb colour, gba, wii and gamecube

i was collecting ps2 i think it started looking bit like a file in system from a office spines are boring . collecting for dreamcast as and when getting super exspensive . and im with you on ps3 hooked like a fish on a hook up to 325 titles . price of games super console.....

Retro = over 15 years. classic = over 21 years. vintage = over 25 years and Antigue = over 50+ years 😊 so i'm an antique haha you have to consider the console itself for aging do you take it from when it cam out or when the console finished, example of this would be the Wii which came out in 2006 but ran till 2019 didn't it? Or 17 so is it 5 years old or 18 years old?arly forgot after antique it goes to historic and then prehistoric, I don't think we will see any games getting to the last 2 m8 haha

i look for the og xbox more but it is hard to find here so the ps2 is cheaper ande easier to collect but if i find a og xbox game i got the ps2 version go.
xbox 360 i collect morte because better controller.
i whoud keep the silver label u got it got the most updated version on it.
the dubbel part is when a game is differten like aladin on the nes/ mega gear same title different game play.
the gta2 is a dubbel u got the same game already but in a collection on the same system.

Ecco cheats...In password type in PLEASE then any double letters like AA,BB etc to select level.
