You are a "tough old buzzard" Sandy. That was a beautiful ride up there and a lot of amazing sights to see, but the weather up there would send a mere mortal packing up and heading back home. When you make up your mind to go camping, you don't take no for answer. Even if that "no" comes from Mother Nature herself. Your videos are always so inspiring and entertaining my friend. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures and your time with us. See you on the next one.
Sandy, I always enjoy your videos. However, I also enjoy and respect your humanity, dry humour, and reverence for life. If I have had a bad day all I do is put one of your videos on and the smile and joy of life comes back. Much happiness and good health to you and your beloved wife.
What a start to your journey hunkered down in the bus shelter waiting for the rain to ease 😄. You are such a trooper 👍👍. I must admit I enjoy your rainy, windy overnighters lol. You make everything look so easy. Lillington Hill scenery is just beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Judy🇨🇦🇨🇦
Bit of a damp and windy one that sandy. Surrounded by history though 👍🥰♥️ cold and wet is not great so make sure to have the right gear with you as we want you kept in one piece please. Love to Mandy hope she’s feeling better ♥️♥️♥️👍👍👍👍
Outstanding Sandy lad, great video ... most enjoyable watch. It brought memories back of many a hard camp I’ve had in the past and indeed, in hindsight they are the most memorable.
Nice to see you again sandy nice looks abit wet wet wet on your bike not been a very good year this one because of the weather all we had is rain and more rain short bit of sunshine good video but stay safe and stay healthy one life enjoy blessed be
Go out there Mark and feel the wind upon your face, that wind is there as much for you as it is for anyone. It blows away your fears and your doubts and certainly helps me out :)
Thanks so much again, Sandy. Those cloud formations especially at the beginning are just breathtaking. Like "they" say:"There's no bad weather only bad clothing." I got soaked yesterday during my ride, but I loved every mile of it! To arrive home even more 😅
I do admire how organised you are Sandy apart from the Gloves for which you are forgiven, I love the overnight camps you do there so good, being out in the elements in glorious countryside I can see why you embrace it so much and the Historical information about the past and the Authors that inspire you, take care, regards, Colin.
Thank you for sharing your adventures and time with us. So good for ones mental health to watch a sane, calm, vigorous outdoorsman giving inspiration to others. You do a service which adds to the greater good. Over the years you have allowed use to hike, bike, cycle and fly along with you, touring about the beautiful UK. I'm loving the Selle SMP TRK saddle that you made me aware of.
Your a better man then me ! I wouldn't do that for any thing, Love the video and the country side around you. My best wishes to you from the Philippines ♥️👍💪😉😀😁🐑🇵🇭🏴⭐
Showcasing the beauty's of North Wiltshire truly remarkable countryside, there are several different points along the ridgeway, hackpen hill, Liddington hill Fort, white horse hill & several other similar spots. When your up there it really does feel very special, sacred is a good description a fitting final resting place. Your tent was a oasis in cold & windy night, I always admire your determination & perseverance & glad you enjoyed a good sleep in the warm & dry. Yep it's winter mode all of a sudden, time to brake out the hats & gloves, jumpers ect! Stay well insulated & many thanks for sharing what I'd call a expedition!
Always great to come home and there’s a WM video! I like all your content, including knife making, but the best of all are your wild camping videos. Thanks for keeping us entertained and inspired.
No pain, no gain, Sandy. 😁 If the weather was like that when I was heading out for a camp, I'd turn around and go home. More power to your elbow. All the best.
Sandy, another enjoyable video. Far be it for me to try and advise you, but I find that wet clothing and a cold night are not a healthy combination. So, having been through this myself, I now have a 'Ditch-kit'. This was introduced to me by a friend who did a lot of sailing. If the boat got in trouble and started to sink, you grabbed your ditch-kit before leaving the boat. In it, you had the pre-packed essentials to keep you alive. I found that it's so easy to get out on a hike/camp only to then find you've left needed kit behind. In my ditch-kit, I have waterproofs, gloves, dry clothes & hat. Plus, fire lighting kit, torch, compass, first-aid, etc etc. This is the first thing i go to when packing my backpack. Each ditch-kit will be different from each person, depending on their needs. Hypothermia is a real danger in wet cold conditions, so maybe a ditch-kit would help for those, last minute trips? It's just a thought, Sandy, as you seem to take a right soaking on the hill. Anyway, respect for continuing on, through the rain. 👍
Your filming is so good it really feels like we, the viewers, are there with you. That looked like a cold camp but expect once you were in your sleeping bag in the tent eating that posh pork and beans you were nice and snug. I have a Nordisk Telemark tent which is not dissimilar to your Terra Nova - about a kilo, but probably not a full on winter tent. Interesting to see inside the starfish bunker - brave people back then, very brave. Thank you for putting the video up for us to go up Liddington Hill with you in the wind and rain - always magic to go along with you!
Thanks for your kind comment Pootling :) Once in my tent and sleeping bag I was very cosy. Nothing better than laying there warm and safe listening to the wind and rain just beyond the fabric of the tent.
Just perfect! A bit of exploring and a wild and stormy camp with not another soul for miles around! I love all your activities but these type of camps are my favourite 🧡 Kudos for braving the elements to bring us another brilliant video

What a lovely place, although weather exposed place to be put to rest Sandy...you explained it perfectly, sacred ground. I see the vandals have been spraying there too. And I was on a wild camp with my friend Chey (A friend of Vee's and one of the group lived in an old house in Dorchester. They had an old air raid bunker and there were loads of butterflies down there too...masses of them. Well overdue these downpours now...the ponds near mine are more than half empty, so I expect them to be filled soon...nature always finds a way. Lovely video Sandy. All credit, as weather like that would keep most people indoors. Very touching scene as you walk around the clump, where the ashes of many departed loved ones are scattered.
Brrrrrrrrr 🥶 you are very brave, Sandy. I hope you have your Thermals on and your booties like me 😂in this arful weather. You need to take care in this weather and definitely bring gloves next time & a Woolley hat. Great Video ❤❤❤

Autumn is well and truly here now Sandy. Liddington Castle looks like an interesting place. I'm going to have to look that place up, it appears univalate which often indicates it's very old, possibly late Bronze Age. Doubtful that it's the Mount Badon battle site. But then again the earliest reference says it was a siege so it's possible, it'd be in the right area of the country too.
You get some fantastic views from the hillfort Si, It has one good trench all around and still very deep in places, no doubt it took a lot of effort to throw that up!
Hi Sandy, you deserve a medal up on that hill in that weather. It's a good video this one. What a day for you,get some hot food in you, and have a swig of whisky. Keep warm if you can .
Great video Sandy. I've just bought the Terra Nova Laser Compact AS - the AS stands for "All Season". Same kind of design as the competition just a bit bigger and more robust .. I did think about the Akto but stuck to TN ..
Fantastic video Sandy. Really enjoyed it. You captured the adversity of the rough weather well. I always like hearing the rain on the tent too. I was out in the biggest thunder storm I’ve ever encountered fishing the other week, with lightning flashing all round the bivvy. It was an exhilarating experience.
Great stuff Sandy , camping in those conditions 😂 I’m off on a 3 day trip next week and the forecast looks well how can I put it , shite ! Still it will give me chance to see how my MTB handle Bikepacking . The little tent held up admirably in those conditions , but yes an Akto would give you more room that is for sure. EBay has few on now and again but they still hold there money. Atb Dave ⛺️👍
Hi Sandy. Good effort in the iffy weather. Just a side note you never said you were sharing your tent for the night. At 19:38 you had a rather large long legged visitor on the outside of the main tent must have been a Daddy Longlegs (Crane Fly) but looked huge for an insect in the UK.

I reckon Swindon should employ him as their ambassador.
You’re amazingly resilient, love to hear ingredients for this? Good job
Hahaa, it's easy, just "Don't": Don't eat too many vittals, don't drink too many beers, don't eat too much crap, Don't spend too long sitting down, Don't dwell on negativity.
DO get a Dog, perhaps two! Do get a bicycle and ride it often (atleast 4 times a week) Do be Thankful, Do show kindness (and to yourself also) Do dwell on positivity and good things, Be Honourable!. Your body is your temple.....
Awsome :-)
Your a much hardier soul than I Sandy! Wind and rain is not my thing, but I agree it sounds good on canvas.
Winter has arrived early! I reckon that's the wettest September on record 🫣
@16:31 nothing cosier than being cocooned in one’s tent.
You're some man for one man Sandy. I've seen you wear those glasses on many a video. Are they a prescription lense?
No just standard lens, I need them to keep the wind out of my left eye which doesn't blink
Cheers thanks for the reply Sandy@@WiltshireMan
Enjoy
your adventures...Doug St,Onge VE9DSO
Love your adventures Sandy. I was planning on camping at Liddington at the end of the first day of my Ridgeway walk earlier this year but the wind was horrendous so I ended up pitching up in the little wood with Paul Parker's bench.
I know it, a nice spot but lots of beech tree's, be careful camping beneath beech, they can drop a limb without warning!
@@WiltshireMan sage advice indeed! In hindsight beech trees in high winds was probably not the smartest move!!!
What are you on !! Can I have some please!!!!
Exercise and fresh air:)
